with the exception of Dream Team, which seems to run 40+
You need extra time for all the tutorials...
A few shorter games from my Virtual Console backlog: Secret of Mana (22 hours), Chrono Trigger (23 hours), Chrono Cross (37 hours), EarthBound (27.5 hours).
I'm open to all of those but maybe least interested right now in Chrono Cross.
Ohhh I'd totally be in for Etrian Oddysey: U, Nier, Suikoden (any of them), or Radiant Historia. Or...anything really.
I'd be in for M&L Superstar Saga or Bowser's Inside Story, Paper Mario, Etrian Odyssey, Earthbound if I happen to pick it up, and I may have Suikoden? And most SMT. Hell, I'll throw in either of the Raidou games, my preference being the first so I can be pushed to finish it.
My nominations are:
- Nier
- Earthbound (already in progress, about 7 hours in)
- Etrian Odyssey 1 (already in progress, about 35% done)
- Suikoden I (started years ago, but would restart)
Bingo cage!
If you're doing Suikoden, I would recommend tacking on Suikoden II as a bonus/stretch goal. Twenty hours of play will take you through the first game and there are some interesting bits that carry over from the first game to the second.

OTOH, Ozy recently withdrew his long-standing recommendation that I play one of the Suikoden games. It apparently doesn't fit my tastes. So I vote against it!
My nominees for Q4 are:
Radiant Historia (been whittling away at it and it would be good to have others to discuss as I move forward)
Paper Mario (OG Paper Mario; always a good thing)
Child of light (the shortest choice and sure to be an easy completion, relatively speaking)
Suikoden II (much, much better than the first and also short enough to qualify)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army (because someone mentioned it above and I'd be down with that)
I'd vote Suikoden or Child of Light since I've actually started both of those and then they got lost in the shuffle.
From what has already been mentioned:
Suikoden
Chrono Chross
Radiant Historia
Other stuff on my backlog that would qualify:
Disgaea 3
Mind Zero
Conception™II: Children of the Seven Stars
Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth2
Ar nosurge Plus: Ode to an Unborn Star
Black Rock Shooter The Game
Monster Monpiece
Sword Art Online -Hollow Fragment-
Ys: Memories of Celceta
The top of my backlog (JRPG-wise) looks like this:
Final Fantasy VII
Kingdom Hearts II
Bravely Default
None of which have any votes :p
However I'd almost be willing to punt on my backlog and play Chrono Cross in the unlikely event it wins, because I love Chrono Cross that much.
I was just throwing short suggestions out there, I'm game for just about anything in my backlog anyway.
Here's what I (think) we're looking like so far:
Suikoden - 5
Etrian Odyssey - 4
Paper Mario / M&L - 4
Earthbound - 4
Child of Light - 2
Radiant Historia - 2
SMT Something - 2
Secret of Mana - 2
Chrono Trigger - 1
Chrono Cross - 1
Mega Man Legends - 1
Dark Cloud 2 - 1So you know what this means. Bingo cage will return.
I still think Child of Light is way too short to be a full quarter game. I'd hit SallyNasty up to make it a monthly game, although it would be pretty short even there. It's a five hour game.
Edit: HowLongToBeat has it at 11 hours. Huh. That seems really long, but I may be misremembering.
I just played Child of Light recently and it wasn't long enough to really do it as a quarterly game, I agree. Even if you were going for completionist, you're looking at 15 hours at most. 11 hours as average sounds about right. The game is pretty well paced and never felt long at any point, so that could be why you felt it was shorter!
Forgot to throw my hat in for Mega Man Legends! (and I'm sure Zoso would like to jump in as well if that were the pick)
I have been summoned!
Mega Man Legends! I also have MML2 to play.... But maybe replaying 1 would get me there, finally.
I also vote for Chrono Cross. A game I never gave a chance when I first bought it.
My votes would be for Suikoden, Radiant Historia, Chrono Cross/Trigger, Dark Cloud 2, all those I have but haven't tried yet, and 4 of them are playable on the portable which is a plus for me.

To further the MML hole: Each game averages 8-10 hours. There are 3 games (MML, MML2, Misadventures of Tron Bonne - all on PS Store). 1 per month?! Or is that too ambitious?
I've yet to finish MML2 and would have to start over, and never started Tron Bonne.
Are the Mega Man Legends games JRPGs? I was under the impression they were fairly straightforward Zelda clones.

They're about as much RPGs as Zelda, but that's not a discussion I'm a fan of. Not sure where Zelda clones comes from as they're quite unlike those games.
But yeah, maybe not the most suited for JRPG club, though I'd love to game club them!

Fair enough. I'm not familiar with them, so I probably confused them for another series. Maybe Darksiders or something.

Gameplay-wise, they're pretty clearly what was adapted to Lost Planet years later. They're 3rd Person shooters, with a really fun Mega Man coat of paint. MML2 handles far better, first is kind of awkward. You've got hub quests, little side missions and stuff.
Maybe a good way of looking at them is smaller scale open world games?
Could also be thinking of the Alundra series? Those were Zelda gone more heavily RPG (and not in a good way).
So... Should I start a Mega Man Legends game club?
I think we should. You know I'll be there
What happened to Nier? I'm pretty sure it was nominated once or twice on the previous page.... Or is it not enough of an RPG to count?
