Heads up! Persona 3 portable is on sale on PSN for 5 bucks right now.
On the presumption that we're sticking with the Persona plan for Q3, and knowing how damn long these games are, I've already started my playthrough of Persona 4 (since I've previously completed P3FES, but P4 has been firmly sitting near the top of my backlog). I started over with a new game, as it's been a few years since I picked up P4G and started into it.
Also, with SMT4 and the Devil Survivor games in my backlog combined with my interest in P4 being more about the story/characters than the combat slog, I'm playing on Very Easy for the boosted exp/money gain. While it does make the boss battles rather too easy, I've been surprised to find that I'm not regretting the choice: it has drastically cut back on how much time I spend dungeon-crawling.
When I play Persona 5 I will likely put it on Normal or Hard and embrace the grind, though.
I think P3 is still the plan, last I heard!
Hey, you're the one in charge here.
I did recently put P3P back on my Vita and loaded up the very early save I have playing through as the girl on hard difficulty. I may dabble in it if I can get FF VII wrapped up here soon.
I wouldn't specify a version, personally.
Also, I vote for naming Persona 4 (non-version-specific as well) the "gaiden" title for the quarter for those of us who have finished P3 previously but never got around to finishing P4. I'm playing P4G this quarter regardless, and I'll be following and participating in the P3 quarterly thread since that's one of my favorite games ever.

DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE! :O
Question for y'all - should we specify a version of P3 or would that be too polarizing? I have a feeling most will be P3P or FES anyway, but, just asking.
There aren't significant enough differences between the games in terms of story or encounters to really need to specify a version. There are differences, but nothing where you'd have people chatting about major things that didn't happen in one game or the other.
Noted! Depending on how work today looks (so far, crappy) I'll make the official thread. I will leave it up to a certain house of time and arms running smoothly to potentially create a gaiden thread.
This quarter, I won't have the time to pick up a second game. I'm interested in getting through Persona 3 and wouldn't be able to split my attention to Persona 4. I'll leave it up to Farscry if he wants to run a Gaiden thread or just post his experiences in this one.
Eh, I'll just chat in this one. I wasn't aiming for a separate thread to be created, just more hoping that I might not be the only one playing P4.
Week I've been playing Persona 4 for the past year and hope to complete it this month so I can join you in the conversation at least Farscry.
Could we do P4 later this year? Like, in the last quarter? I'm assuming I'm not the only one who wants to play it before P5 hits in February?
I'd opt to have the 'main' thread not taken up by the same series twice in a row, but I also can't tell you what not to do. I'm thinking NIER might be a good autumn/winter one, after P3, especially based on how close that came out to the top in the last polls we had.
NieR is at the top of my list, so yes
That's why I suggested P4 for the last quarter, I agree that having games from the same series two quarters in a row might be overkill, however good they might be.

There are only two quarters left, and one of them is already booked for P3.

Oh right, I'm an idiot, sorry
I'm down for P4 (either/any version) for the Gaiden thread, as well as the main P3 club thread. Beat P3 a few years back but I don't mind diving back in.
Boom. Quarterly thread. How would we like to break the game up, by month?
The Gamefaqs walkthrough I'm looking at lists ten "chapters" (April to January). I expect some of them to be shorter than others (probably the first few ones, though I could be wrong). So:
- July: April to July
- August: August to October
- September: November to January
That's just a proposition, so feel free to disagree and update as you see fit.
Edit: This list only includes 'The Journey', for those playing the FES version (I think 'The Answer' is not included in the Portable version of the game, which is the one I will be playing due to being restricted to portable platforms at the moment).
Is it really necessary to break the game up? I'm going to be playing FFXIV into July before getting around to P3, and when I do start on P3, I'm just gonna play
Dragon Quest VII?
.....
Sure, it's a new 3DS release, but it's an old PS1 release!
Etrian Odyssey (either original or Untold)
...
Paper Mario / Mario & Luigi?
I like these two, if only because I actually have in-progress-but-not-currently-playing saves in both Etrian Odyssey Untold and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. I also, of course, have a sprawling pile of SMT games that I can play, but they're just so long.
Fall is pretty busy for new release rpgs, so maybe something on shorter side?

Yeah, in all seriousness I would say Q4 is the time for a jrpg on the shorter side. Going off of HowLongToBeat, a few ideas from the OP:
- Radiant Historia (DS) - 40h
- Any Paper Mario / Mario & Luigi will run around 20-30h, with the exception of Dream Team, which seems to run 40+
- Nier (360/PS3) - 30h
- Suikoden (PS1) - 20h
- Earthbound (Nintendo Virtual Console) - 30h
Or with the 15th game coming this fall, maybe a blast from the past to play through the original Final Fantasy (available in nearly every format at this point) with it ranking a mere 20ish hours to complete?
Edit: I'm totally game for Etrian Odyssey, since the Untold edition would be new for me, but be aware that all the EO games are pretty heavy time (and grind/patience) investments.
