Yet another impending government shutdown

That would actually be the best scenario for the long term viability of the GOP. If enough moderates teamed with the Democrats and told the rest of the caucus to go f@@k off, compromise might come back into style, and government may actually function.

This will never happen though, as the first GOP congressman to float this idea will immediately have a primary challenge against them, funded by 10 million dollar super PAC.

And let's not forget the possibility that Boehner was essentially pushed out by Republicans unhappy that he deigned to actually attempt compromise at times.

I am terrified of the upcoming debt ceiling vote in December, as I think the new speaker will not bring a clean resolution for a vote. He will have to have the crazy votes to stay in power, so look for a ceiling hike paired with a repeal to the ACA, flat tax, abortion ban, etc., all of which will fail in the senate.

The good thing is that there are two lines of defense to protect the rest of America from the Kamikaze caucus: the Senate and the presidential veto. Whatever deal might squeak through the Senate is going to get vetoed by Obama and neither house has the numbers to overturn it.

Rather than trying to limit their power I've kinda come to the position that we should give the crazies all the power they want. The were voted in on the idea that what was wrong in government was that representatives weren't ideologically pure enough and that compromise, any compromise, was bad. Let them try in vain to implement their legislative ideas knowing that the system is purposefully built on compromise. They will accomplish nothing.

And if they force the government to shut down or default on our debt then I've kinda reached the point where I think we deserve that collectively punishment for electing these morons. Rather than trying to shield America from the consequences of their horrible ideas perhaps what we should be doing is letting things fall where they may.

No thanks. As much as I like the setting for computer games and other media, I'd rather not live in a corporation-dominated, dystopian hellhole with wealth inequality as wide as the Pacific.

Well... We've already got two out of three. Why not lock in the hat trick?

Oh, I'm not saying let them legislate whatever they want.

I'm saying that if they want to default on our country's debt obligations or shutter the government for months and months because they weren't able to get the ACA repealed then let them. When the economy tips over into recession, when the middle class no longer get the government services they expect, when Wall Street takes a giant sh*t, etc. everyone will know that that's what happens when you put children in charge.

It'll be what's happening in Kansas, but bigger.

I used to think like that, back when "they" elected Bush for a second term. Then things just went south and you know what? The crazies (like my aunt and uncle) didn't say "oh that is what happens when you put children in charge" they doubled down on the stupid crap, pretended like Bush didn't even exist and are now flocking to people like Trump.

You don't cure mental disease by just letting the fruitcakes believe they are Napoleon or that aliens are sending signals through their dentures. You can't just ignore the problem, let them have their way and then go "I told you so" becuase they are fruitcakes and they will just ignore whatever happened and believe something else even crazier.

And yet Sam Fecesback is in no political danger in his state.

Looks like they are having trouble giving the job away.

Looks like the crazies are smelling blood in the water.
