Hey gang, new game incoming!
These are the guidelines for these playthroughs -
1. Games should be at least 1 calendar year old. That makes it easy to find games that are either a) on most people's piles or b) cheap to pick up(I am thinking 10-15 bucks max).
2. Games should be either episodic or broken up into easily agreed upon stopping points (i.e. achievement for ch.1 or reaching certain checkpoint). I would like it to be about an hour to an hour and a half for each "assigned" session, no more than 5-6 hours a week needed to participate.
3. Games shouldn't be more than 20 hours.
4. No console exclusives. Has to be on Microsoft/Playstation/PC platforms.
For October we will keep up the trend of 5 chapters for a week, and then open spoilered discussion up the next week. Please discuss as you play through together, but keep spoilers tagged/undiscussed until we get to the right part of the story.
Evil Within is a survival/stealth/horror mashup that is brought to you by the mind that created the Resident Evil series. Looks like a lot of fun and a great spooky game that we will finish up just in time for Halloween!!!
Here are some collectible guides, for you cheev hunters:)
Every time a new thread is created, I'm super hyped! Should we start pulling together a backlog of games we could potentially use? I know there have been some thrown around but I'm slightly concerned about running out. Though I guess that's not really a legitimate concern.
Also, how far back would we go? I'm assuming PS3/PS4/360/XONE/PC at this point right? Rather than just PS4/XONE/PC?
Noted! I'll see if I can come up with a bigger list for us to remove things from, just so we have more options.
Yay! I'd be excited to jump in on this time!
I've been enjoying these so I am tempted to join in, but this isn't my favorite genre. Alien Isolation was an exception because I love the movies so much.
I'm tempted! I couldn't keep up with Alien:Isolation and was only finishing Ch 10 by the time you guys finished the entire game. (I actually stopped after that chapter - but will definitely finish eventually!)
I think I'm gonna try it again with this one. I always have to play something scary in Oct anyway.
I have had this thread in the back of my mind since it was first mentioned on the podcast a month or so ago. I am super in for Evil Within!
Circumstances permitting, I'm interested in joining this one. I was too busy to join the Alien thread and Wolfenstein isn't my cup of tea. Evil Within has been sat on my pile ever since I picked a boxed copy up for peanuts earlier in the summer.
This sounds like fun. Anyone know the approx. time commitment for 5 chapters?
Been waiting for this one, as it's the first of these that I've not previously finished ( I think I got 5 or 6 chapters in but gave up because my desktop PC was just not quite capable of running it at a playable frame-rate. The laptop however seems to run it without too many problems).
The pricing on this game is strange. I can find it boxed on Amazon for $10, but if I get it through steam it is still full price. That seems a bit backwards to me.
Yay! Been waiting to be a part of one of these since the podcast mention and this is a great one to start on. I actually worked on marketing for this one but haven't played it since an early alpha build... so I intimately know three random levels that were sort of done and nothing else lol. Will be fun to see the finished game!
That's really cool. Is that something you could actually talk about once those levels are open for spoilers? Like, could you compare and contrast what you saw to what ended up in game?
I'm really glad to see this taking off and look forward to joining as things go forward. Great idea!
I watched the trailers on The Evil Within, though, and it's not something I'd enjoy. I'm *really* not a fan of horror and gore. I'll read along though, and look forward to joining in November!
I've got my copy and ready to go! As a side note, my local Gamestop allows Corgis.
That's because your Corgi is the cutest damn dog ever!

Yeah, for sure! I did this series of ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUgk... (the reaction-shot ad with people freaking out, in case you don't feel like clicking) and I basically just used all the jump scares to try to get the biggest reactions. My copy arrived today so I'll report back with how the finished levels stack up!
I'm in. I started this a while ago, but shinier things got in the way.
I had the game in my Amazon cart and when I checked in on it today it had gone up $0.06. I quickly checked out and I will have it Thursday! I will be ready.
ATTENTION THOSE STILL ON THE FENCE!!!
While it is currently full price on Steam ($59.99), you can also grab a demo of the first 3 chapters for free, and if you purchase it, you'll be able to continue your progress.
Mind you, a boxed copy for PC is sub-$10 on Amazon, so there's that too.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been hoping it would go on sale on Steam, but just snagged it from Amazon for $10! Woooooo!
I assume we start discussing on October 12th? So I should probably play a chapter or two before then?
I'm probably going to do that anyway - to hell with rules!
