This game is great for bus commuting. Big city like San Francisco there are pokespots everywhere.. got like 60 pokeballs just checkign the map at every bus stop on the way to work.

I got an egg from the San Francisco Civic Center Plaza Fountain pokestop. I'm not sure I want to touch it. That fountain is... gross ...

You should ask RNG about one of the PokeStop's near him.

I am not impressed with the servers being down all the time. I hope it gets better.

Assuming the server outages are related to unexpectedly high demand: is the solution as simple as putting more hardware power behind it, like allocating a bigger chunk of Google's server farms to it, or is it more complicated than that?

The whale murals on the side of the (in)famous Mitchell Bros. O'Farrell strip club is a pokespot.

Hopefully (and probably, given that these guys made Ingress so they have experience) the answer is mostly yes.

Possibly things have been designed such that more extensive changes are needed to get past whatever the bottleneck is.

For those looking for pokestops... they seem to correspond with portals from Ingress. This is a map of all of them. You have to zoom in really close to see unused portals though.

At least with Ingress, the developer actively worked with the communities to improve things and make the app better. I may not agree with all of the decisions they made, but they really do try and send out updates regularly adding functionalities and increasing stability.

I wondered about this, because one of the three spots near our house I remembered from the little I played of Ingress.

Thanks for posting that. That's helpful information.

Pokemon Go Server Status by Country

It's showing them down worldwide as I check this. USA has been out for 18 minutes.

So being in canada we don't have it yet, but I did start a reddit.com/r/pokemongocanada and it seems to be popular.

I've been using the APK and am level 6 with a good collection of bugs, birds, worms and other assorted pocket monsters.

I've not been this excited for a game on my phone since the potential of Ingress. This one has so much activity it's great. I've run out of balls though and where I work and live there are few spots. I do have one stop down the street.

I find it amusing that all of the Pokestore locations are also Ingress Portals.

Hmm... Maybe the Pokemon are coming through the Portals? They're made of Exotic Matter!

Not sure what others are doing, but I joined the Yellow Team Instinct because Zapdos is my favorite Legendary Bird Pokemon.

Huh. Looks like because I'm running Android 4.1 I can't use it. 4.4 is the minimum requirement.

I can download and install Miitomo, though, so hopefully their future endeavors will be more backwards compatible.

I just walked around much of the neighborhood, went from level 2 to 4, and ran out of juice on my phone in the process.

But I don't have a problem.

What?

Apparently this game is trending like crazy in Sydney. My wife's afraid to install for fear of getting hooked on catching 'em all.

Is everyone near each other seeing the same pokemons on their screens? Just saw a dude walking down the street, stopping and starting randomly like me. I was tracking down a new pokemon. But he got to the spot a bit before me, stopped, moved on. I got caught up catching a different pokemon but when I was done, I noticed the one I'd been tracking was gone. So, besides the gyms, is capturing also a competition?

This church is mine!!

My daughter and I have been playing at the same time/same place for quite a while over the past day. When a Pokemon appears, it appears for both of us. Unless there is lag, we both will have the same Pokemon on our screens. We can both catch it. It's CP level may be different for each of us though. So the Weedle she catches might be CP16 and mine might be CP74.

Bummer, not out in Finland yet. Almost got excited there for a while. Tried to get into X on The 3DS some time ago and could not find anything even remotely exciting in the first few hours.

It is alive and well in Canada. Vancouver, at least. I'd say 2/3 of the phones I peeked walking around town and on the trains had it going. I've collected many cute little dudes and given them all horrible names.

I sent a screenshot of capturing the first introductory Pokémon to my wife. She sends a screenie in return with 32/250 captured. After telling me she wouldn't install it. I feel betrayed.

Never played a Pokemon game before, and Ingress left me cold, but damned if I'm not annoyed at the fact there's a yellow gym almost in my front yard.

Tenzochris in-game, and on Team Red.

I'm Astyrith in game and Team Red. Which I almost regret because we're getting dominated in the local gyms. We had one at a local panera that we had bulked up pretty good. Went and looked at my pokemon this morning and the one I had put in the gym was back and all beat up

I'm kind of bummed the area around my apartment is pretty much empty. I do have a couple things around work at least for my lunch time walks.

Edit: The server issues have been annoying. I've given up on Trainer for now and will just use my google account. It was down a lot yesterday too but has been working today for me.

Stopped by my local mall yesterday. Saw a bunch of people walking around looking at their phones (to be fair, that isn't that unusual) but several I got close enough to see all had the app out.

I got several then the server crashed again. The main entrance is also a Pokestore (and an Ingress Portal, so a double hit for me).

And I finally figured out that if I miss the Pokemon with the Pokeball I lose the Pokeball. Guess I'll have to work on my flicking skill...

I went for a walk last night with my wife, and once the pokemon is on your screen it will stay there until you capture it, regardless of whether other people capture it.

There were times when one of us could capture something that the other couldn't see, but I'm guessing it was just from GPS oddities. We never left our walk path to see if getting a bit closer was what the other needed.

It's possible that if you capture the Pokemon then it does remove it from the map so that it another person shows up a bit later, but not at the same time, it will be gone, I'll have to test that scenario out a bit more.

After you capture Pokemon, it's worth going into your Pokedex and tapping one to pull up it's info card. You can rename them at the top (touch the pencil icon) and also transfer (button at the bottom) it to the Professor for candy. Good way of clearing duplicates and getting candy to evolve others.

Also your Pokemon of the same type have not only different health but different secondary attacks. The Pidgey's for example seem to have either Aerial Cutter, some other Flying attack, or a Dragon move. In the early game when you don't have a lot of types available you may want to hold on to two of the same species with different attacks so you get that spread.

Even the primary attack can be different, I think I had a Rattata with Tackle and a Rattata with Quick Attack. Or maybe that was also Pidgey.

I think getting Pokeballs is going to be a real problem for me with no pokestops around where I live. I drive by a few on the way to work but they are generally just out of reach and I'm not going to ask the gf to stop or pull over. lol

So driving to work with my windows down because my AC is busted, I pull up beside another car with the windows down and hear chiptune coming from the speakers. "Huh," I think to myself, "that girl that looks to be in her 20's likes chiptune I guess."

Next stop light she pulls up alongside again and I suddenly hear "Vulpix?!" in the tone of "The f*ck, you? Ugh!"

I hope this game doesn't get people into accidents.

Also: I'm starting to feel left out and wonder if I can upgrade my phone's OS to 4.4...

Yeah, it has the same general problem Ingress has with rural areas. I'm lucky to have a post office that's a Pokestop only a minutes' walk from my house. At least you can still catch Pokemon without having to be near a Pokestop or gym, but they desperately need to have the game be able to search for nearby Pokemon while the phone is asleep.
