Modded Minecraft Multiplayer Server

For the moment, I'll just be playing solo, I think. I mean on my home pc.

OK. I'll shut the server down. I'm going to look at Rustic Waters II when I'm done with Techopolis.

Let me know if you decide to put it back up, Moggy. Once school ends, I'm hoping I can coax my niece into playing some with me. Or maybe a lighter pack?

Really I just want Immersive Engineering.

I'd be happy to put any modpack you like up there. Just let me know what you'd like. If Scalacube has a 1-click install for it, it's really easy.

Greetings, friends!

I just had everything fall out of my crafting table for the 3,000th time, and I wrote this petition. I'm not asking for your signature (yet), I'm asking for your advice about this:

So what do you think? How would you get this out there? Would YOU sign it? (I think I want to use iPetitions.com, which seems to be legitimate. I'm going to send it to the CEO of Mojang.

I am not sure what you are talking about. The broken image link is probably not helping.

They already changed it so that the stuff goes back into your inventory (if there's space). I'd rather they spend their time on implementing colored lighting.

What do folks think of starting a new, lightly-modded Minecraft later this month after some schools are out? Maybe something we roll ourselves? (Myself?)

Some of my favorite mods that have been updated to 1.18.2:

Applied Energistics
Botania
Cooking for Blockheads (and Farmer's Deligh to go with it)
Create
Extreme Reactors
Immersive Engineering
JEI
Openblocks Elevator

And some other favorites that might be too much for a light pack:

Mekanism (might be too much for a light pack)
Mine Colonies (might be too much for a light pack)
RFTools

I'm in favor of it. I'd like the interaction with other players. Personally I like heavy packs, but I would play Odd's. Especially if it was set in a naturalistic world, i.e. not an oceanblock or something. I like the simulation of nature.

I don't know how this could work, but perhaps we could collaborate on designing our own pack. It wouldn't need to be the pack to end all packs, spectacular in every respect. The enjoyment could be to us, in learning how to do it.

And in the meantime…

I can see the end of my play in Rustic Waters II. Problems in the pack become clearer toward the endgame, and I can see why the provider we tried to use, MTXSERV, offered such crappy support. So maybe in a week or two we could use the instance to bring up a new pack. I’m still paying for a multi-player instance we aren’t using. I gather that Moggy is also. So what might we all like to play?

Odd’s suggestion is fine with me. Odd, if you wish to bring one up I would hold your coat, or rather let you use the coatrack I’m renting, to torture a metaphor. Or Moggy might.

Well, I guess I won't be looking for your support, then.

I'm up for something. Currently got a run of All the Fabric 5 going. Not the latest version, though. Scalacube haven't made the latest available yet, though they are aware that a later version exists. Surprisingly light on the client for the number of mods being used. Miserable running a single player game though. Looks like Fabric puts most of the load server side.

I'm happy to host, but my availability for admin is patchy. Doing a bunch of travelling and I'm not always available or online. I'm also only willing to host a '1-click' install - not going to try to assemble a bunch of mods and try to get them working together. I'll make y'all operators, so you can take whitelisting and the like in hand.

Okay, I'll see what I can do in terms of putting together a light pack for us, and getting it onto Curse or FTB.

Er, Moggy, which sites does your provider one-click install from?

For sure. I don't want to take my niece into Skyblock yet.

Yeah, I've no intention of trying to get strangers to play my pack. I have no interest in being an influencer.

You can browse through them here - no search without a login, I think.

https://scalacube.com/modded/minecra...

CurseForge specific packs here:

Okay, I made a project and submitted a preliminary modlist. It'll be 24 hours for a moderator to look at it and decide I'm neither a bot nor a terrorist.

No problem, but this procedure is all new to me. A project where? Submitted to whom?

It is new to me as well. I used CurseForge to create a new modpack. Once the file is uploaded, a moderator looks at it (presumably to make sure it's not a trojan horse). Once approved, I can make the pack public.

Once it's public, I'm hoping we'll all be able to download it from the CurseForge app and Moggy's server people will be able to install it on a server.

If not, I'm sure one of us either has the expertise needed or knows someone who does. In fact, I think SirDodger (one of my IRL GWJ buddies) could probably do it for us.

I'm thinking it may take a few iterations to get the thing working?

That would be my concern. If was as simple as throwing up some jar and cfg files, I'd give it a go but I don't know how to integrate multiple mods. Have you got them all working together in SMP?

Oddrune wrote:

I honestly don't know how they decide which modpacks to make available. Once we're happy that the pack is good, I'll contact them and see if they'll make it available.

I tested it.

  • It runs as single player on my machine, which is well-maintained, but still pretty old.
  • It has no trouble generating new chunks, even while flying.
  • Newly added structures are generating. I found AE meteors and IE village buildings.
  • Newly added ore is generating. I found zinc ore.
  • Botania flowers are generating.

Makes sense. Once the moderator approves of the pack, I can give you the link and you can download it. I also did not take too long finding all the QoL mods yet. I somehow forgot WAILA, which makes me think I might be losing my marbles. I figure we can all poke our heads in and see what we want added. I think another cosmetic mod would be good.

Mastrude, I did add Waystones so we can have a fast travel network. I know you like those.

Oddrune wrote:

One thing you could do is package it up as a zip file and we could try it out on our machines solo.

[EDIT:] Yes, I do indeed like fast travel.

I know it requires many hundreds worth of fancy hardware, but I re-tried Bedrock with Ray Tracing again today. It remains gorgeous. And it's NOT coming to Java. I honestly don't know what this means for our modding scene. Apparently there are about 7 times the sales of Bedrock as Java. This s**s. I was saying to Merphle, we do live in a special world. Sometimes we forget.

Yup. I could also try installing it manually.

Sorry, I got busy yesterday and totally didn't see this.

The pack is named GWJ - The Odds Themselves, because that was the name I chose for my mercenary company in Battletech.

You can find it on CurseForge for single player download.

I downloaded it on CurseForge. When I try to launch from within CurseForge it crashes with exit code 1.

What version of Forge were you using with it?

Didn't find it. The latest I saw from us was GWJ Modded 101. Current CurseForge Beta. You've probably taken it down?

No, I did not take it down. It's the link I posted above: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft...

I think I see your problem -- you're just searching from the CurseForge app. That's not going to work. My modpack is dinky little thing with no subscribers and has only been up for a day. It's not going to be on there.

You need to download the file from the link above. The CurseForge app should be able to import it. I think.
