If we finish behind Honduras, do we get a playoff or knocked out? On my phone so hard to research.

If we don't win, as it stands we're headed for a playoff vs. Australia. Which I have ZERO confidence about us winning.

We can also draw and beat Honduras on tie breaker, right?
Well, nm. Panama scores.
OH CHRIST PANAMA JUST SCORED, AS STANDS WE'RE OUT

Guess you'll be finding out what European countries your white friends are from a lot sooner this time around.
I!
I BELIVE!
I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL SAVE A LOT OF MONEY ON TRAVEL IN 2018!
Seriously though. Choking dogs.
A poor performance for the US ends a poor tournament. They've done nothing that says they deserve to go to the World Cup and now they won't.
As a youth soccer coach, I’m really, really disappointed. This hurts a sport that has been gathering momentum.
Arena gets fired tomorrow, right? I don't mean that in a cry baby we lost mentality but now that we're out its time to rebuild. Arena is not our future.
Ok. There was a little cry baby mentality in there. A very small amount.

I would. I'd add the head of US soccer to the list. Clearly clueless on how to build a National team and how to build talent. We need to set our focus on becoming one of the top four teams in Concacaf. Right now, we aren't.

Sunil Gupta, right?

Gulati.
I think I'll cry about it for a bit. It's a bummer.

Sigh. I had an old coworker named Sunil Gupta. This is legit the 4th or 5th time I've been corrected on this. I'll show myself out.

Crybaby or not, I don't think that there is anyway US Soccer can leave him at the helm after this.
I'm going off to discuss the game with Mr. Jameson & Son.

I'm from the US, but my ancestors are from Germany, England, Ireland, and Sweden.
I guess I'll be rooting for Die Mannschaft next summer.
Ugh, this is about as bad as I've seen the US play. Poor passing, poor movement. Altidore has turned the ball over 1000 times. Too many easy turnovers across the board. They just look lifeless as a group. I'm so disappointed.
This. The first half in particular was abysmal. T&T weren't good so much as the USA was bad. The US just had too many matches in qualifying that looked like they were eleven hungover guys who had never practiced together.
Sad to say, but they didn't deserve to qualify.
This is really unfortunate. We definitely didn't play like we deserved to go to a world cup. Soccer has been building popularity in the US, I feel, and another world cup showing would have really helped that.
I think the biggest changes need to come in the development program. Get rid of "pay to play" at youth levels and stop using college/NCAA as the main talent development. Soccer development has to start a lot younger. We already see it in North America with hockey (in Canada at least) and the junior leagues. There needs to be something similar for soccer.
Sorry! I'm part of the problem...
Look on the bright side. In this case, the US Women's team.
Every word of what Brian McBride says here.
The MLS is reasonably steadily improving, and I understand that US Soccer wants to try and keep the best US talent at home, because that can draw more fans to the game. But I think a young, American talent would be better served going on Loan to Vitesse from a Premier League club and fighting for a position, than starting week-in week-out in the lower quality MLS.
Pulisic is, without doubt, our biggest, brightest star. And I think it's fair to say that a significant portion of his development has come from playing in Germany. I genuinely don't think he'd have been half as as good as he is if he'd stayed in the United States, especially if he'd gone into NCAA Soccer (which is absolutely god-awful).
I mean I think it makes sense that if you want to be the best you should go play with and against the best. MLS isn't the same level as the top leagues in Europe.
But again it comes down to results vs. profit. Right now the USSF is designed to make money, not World Cup winners (or qualifiers). I think that fundamental thinking needs to change, but it's hard to replace money in this country.
USSF presidential candidates answer ESPN's questions
Some interesting answers, but some simple-minded jingoism as well. Short of a massive short-term cultural shift, there is no way that the United States will be able to give young players the kind of soccer education and development they can recieve in England, Germany, Spain, or even Belgium or Holland to be honest. I understand we're all supposed to sit here and pretend like one day the MLS will be on the same level as La Liga/Ligue 1/etc., but it's not happening anytime soon, or probably ever.
Thanks for posting that. Looking forward to diving in to their answers.
But Hope Solo? In charge of others?

Yeah, that's a no-hoper, obviously, but I really liked Kyle Martino's answers.
That said, I'm sure we all understand that leading the USSF (or any Football Association) has little to do with "best qualified for the job".
I really liked Kyle Martino's answers.
