Hmm. I'm currently at the 'Get Honored with the Nightfallen' portion of the main questline. it makes sense that a lot of good stuff is gated behind that.
What about the non-Nightfallen stuff? Like I just did a long quest chain in the top right corner of the map helping some Vykrul on a beach and herded some cats in the north western corner before that. Do you need to do that stuff to unlock the new content?
Well, herding the owlkittens should have gotten you an adorable pet. (I love him and named him Owlmittens.)
AP is clearly the biggest bonus to Suramar, there's a buttload in that zone, but honestly? For me, 90% of the draw (besides that Fox Mount, I MUST HAVE IT), has been the storylines there. Rescuing the last of the Moon Guard (Illidan's first gig after abandoning druidic training) from the Suramar elves attacking... investigating disappearances in the city and helping people who are against the Grand Magistrix from turning into whithered... there's just so much going on in the Zone that I only really leave for my daily emissary quests, the occasional good piece of loot from a WQ or to occasionally run dungeons with guildies.

You also need Nightfallen rep to complete the class armor set from your hall.
I've been really enjoying my little bit of Legion. I hit 105 last night and did my first two dungeons. The order hall stuff with companion app is neat. So far, I'm glad I came back.

True, though I'm not TERRIBLY worried about that other than for xmog purposes as I've replaced pretty much every set piece from that already thanks to heroics and WQs.

Worth mentioning: simply letting time pass (a day or so) makes the folks in Shal'Aran drained (of ancient mana) and you get quests to feed them 50 or so. Each time you do this gets you 55 or so rep (at Friendly at least).

So you got 6 840 procs?
The AP is nothing to sneeze at though. I've collected over 20k from them doing the quests.
I've been running mythics, and I managed to get 3 840+ titanforged pieces from heroics. I've traded away more mythic gear than I'm actually using, because Blizzard's drop logic seems to favor giving me the same slots over and over. Right now, I'm currently somewhere around 840 ilvl, but that's because I finished the order hall questline a couple of nights ago and unlocked the 3rd relic slot.
The class armor set is really so casual players who aren't mainlining heroics/mythics can have a bunch of targeted goals to get to for a full gear set that should at least get them through normal raids. It's the same logic as tier .5 from vanilla, but you don't need to have a big pile of gold and a guild behind you to get everything in it done.
If you're in relative hardcore mode, there's a good chance you'll have better gear pretty quickly, and really only needed the class set to get over the initial 810 heroic hump. Beyond that, with the WQ reward scaling, ilvl goes up very quickly.

Especially with some of their requirements. I suspect Exalted with Nightfallen probably won't happen until we get to the campaign for 7.1, at which point even Emerald Nightmare LFR will be about the same in terms of ilevel (though apparently Tier sets won't start until the third raid with Nighthold, which seems lame).

I'm at 840 as well now, and with only 3 lucky drops and opening up the 3rd slot being the reason. The rest is the class armor. So you'd have to be extra hard core to have all 6 handled.

I'm on track to get it in a couple more weeks if not less. I'm almost revered as we speak. That's if i keep at it. I'm wanting to start spending more time with my hunter.
Hmmmm... maybe I should be pushing harder on Nightfallen rep then.
I think part of it though, especially for me as Shaman, is that a good chunk of them are just not that good. A lot of Crit and Versatility (and between my two specs, only crit is really useful for Resto (and even then, less so as I gear up other pieces and my mana regen gets to be a little less necessary).
Set bonuses change with spec (thus why the 6 piece for extra primary state changes based on whether I'm resto or enhancement), why not toss the secondary stats in there too? Having a piece that's Crit/Vers when I'm enhancement and neither is super helpful compared to Haste/Mastery just makes even putting in a lot of effort to get the pieces feel unnecessary (more so when the way to upgrade the early pieces to keep them relevant so you can at least get the 6 piece bonus (with all the others/other drops) which is like the only one that actually helps for fighting anywhere other than Broken Isles overworld... is OH resources, which I still need pretty heavily to keep my OH upgrades, AP upgrades, and such rolling).
Well, I hang out on the curse channel for the forum, but I don't anyone on there. What voice chat are you guys using?

I'm on vacation now, but I usually sit in the curse channel even though I'm not on either of the gwj servers.
First thing I did on my ret paladin was transmog that sucker. I don't WANT to wield The Ashbringer. It's tacky.
<purist>Paladins carry hammers.</purist>
Instead, I am carrying this very tasteful weapon.

A cow wielding a steak tenderizer?
More of a demon tenderizer.
So now I see why everyone is talking about how Legion will kill half its player base due to an outbreak of alt-itis.
I've played through two of the paladin legendary weapon scenarios (ret and holy) and they were both pretty darn good. Ret was just this side of epic because you learn the fate of Tirion.
And by the light ... I'm wielding Ashbringer!
Is alt-itus really a concern among the fan-base? It seems like a strange criticism after WoD's famine of content.
I do have to say one can criticize the way they turned on the fire-hose of content. I felt a little overwhelmed for a while trying to parse out which quests are the really important ones like the Nightfallen quests, and the ones that aren't so important like the Owlkitten ones.
Edit: To clarify, I liked the amount of content, but, there seems to be a lot to do all at once. They probably could have paced it a bit better.

really all quests are important since they lead to rep rewards which is all important again.

Except the ones that don't? A bulk of the Suramar quests don't give you any rep, with maybe a small amount at the final quest. I know that the real incentive for those is the high amount of artifact power, but I need to unlock those Nighfallen Mythics!
They give good amounts of AP and also unlock other world quests, which get you rep.
Yeah, every new quest completed in Suramar is a chance for more world quests to do when you finish them. Amusingly, I finished a quest in the basement of some place with some spider stuff, then immediately upon finishing the quest, had to go right back to do a WQ with only 45 minutes left on it because I'd just unlocked it.
So, ran my first two Mythics last night, have some tips for those interested.
1. If you can get past the first two bosses/trash pack sets, it's completely downhill in difficult there. There are 4 "kill" everything switches in there just like there were before. There are four trash packs between the second boss and the sub boss then final boss. 4 packs, 4 kill switches (Note, it will not KILL the big elite portal guardians, but it will nuke 75% of their health off, so it definitely still trivializes the trash there).
2. On Maw of Souls, the Mistcallers are the healers, not the Mistmenders. Do not ask me why. Callers are the priority though and must be interrupted. Also, all the bosses suck as melee, just saying.

Not everyone in the chain gives rep but mid point and end of the chain you end up with 200+ rep. Which you add AP to the mix is well worth the effort.
Plus lot of those are prereq for the Suramar dungeons.
Whats the best way to farm Nightfallen rep? I'm at 2200/12000 but the next questline doesn't open up till 7000

Daily quests, all of them in Suramar, including Wardens (which boosts rep for both the Wardens and the Zone rep), any incidental quests in the zones are worth it for potentially opening up new WQs. If you haven't, I'd also make sure you get all the portals open and all the Leylines activated (FYI, both are a LOT of mana if you haven't gone into the city and gotten the disguise, AM farming is actually pretty easy there with all the flowers and drinks and tomes around).
The biggest potential increase is the withered training WQs (which supposedly resets daily, but I did it Sunday night and never had it spawn Monday, so I dunno). The higher the score, the more rep tokens you can get from the ending chest (the other chests are ancillary, you're better off getting a higher score and no chest than picking up chests when it comes to farming reputation). But yeah, I know your pain, I thought the next unlocked at 4000, apparently it's 7 or 8k instead. -_-;;
Withered training is on a 3 day reset timer, like an instance lock, only instead of daily(heroics) or weekly(mythic/raids), it's every 3 days.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuh. Really sucks that it's so much easier for tanks than healers and DPS . (Do not go in as healing, you cannot heal your withered, they immediately take damage for the exact amount you healed them (Not including overhealing). I'm usually only getting about 250-ish rep per run right now as I learn the "rules".

There was in-game text that made me think it was a daily reset. I think the exit teleporter says something like "you can't come back here today." According to WoWHead though, it's on a 3-day reset. So I guess it'll be a while before I can get through it to get the Artifact look that I want.
For what it's worth, the lead designer said in a Twitch Q&A that the Nightfallen quest line is supposed to be a "come back when you hit the next tier" thing, not a "get to the next tier ASAP" thing. That doesn't help if you want to run the dungeons locked behind the quests though...

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah, if you want people not to rush sh*t, then don't hide stuff like dungeons behind it after talking about how dungeons have been a big focus, people see amazing new dungeons, and want to do all of them. You would think they would have learned that lesson any number of times already.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still experiencing the story here, I love it, it's crazy fascinating... but I really wish I could move on with it rather than just doing rep stuff trying to get the last of it unlocked, especially if part of this is going to be tying into the Nighthold.
My understanding is that they wanted to get some old school nostalgia by basically creating attunment requirements for the last two dungeons. While that in itself is fine, gating it behind reputation feels clunky. This ensures that some super dedicated players get to it early, while more casual players might never get to it. I really would have preferred something like Sunwell, where everyone on the server is working towards a goal of unlocking the dungeons and once it's open, it's open for everyone.
Edit: ZOMG VINDICATION!!! I wasn't trying to pull on purpose!

Barrage range will now correctly match the range of the Hunter’s other abilities.
Developers’ Notes: During the recent updates to Barrage, we discovered it extended approximately 2 yards beyond the range of autoshot and other abilities. We’re changing it to more closely match.
