Hey all, we are having such a good time doing the Alien: Isolation playthrough, I want to set this up as a monthly thing.
These are the guidelines that I am thinking for these playthroughs -
1. Games would be at least 1 calendar year old. That makes it easy to find games that are either a) on most people's piles or b) cheap to pick up(I am thinking 10-15 bucks max).
2. Games should be either episodic or broken up into easily agreed upon stopping points (i.e. achievement for ch.1 or reaching certain checkpoint). I would like it to be about an hour to an hour and a half for each "assigned" session, no more than 5-6 hours a week needed to participate.
3. Games shouldn't be more than 20 hours.
4. No console exclusives. Has to be on Microsoft/Playstation/PC platforms.
For September, I would like to do one of my favorite games of 2014 - Wolfenstein: The New Order! Spoilers OPEN for Ch. 1-5! Chapters 6-11 for Sep 21! The most important thing about these playthroughs is FUN!
Wolfenstein is a really fun romp through an alternate history of World War 2. It is a brutal shoot 'em up with a surprisingly personal story. It is one of my favorite games and I really hope you guys will play along!
Here is an AWESOME collectible guide, for you cheev hunters:)
*Spoilers OPEN for Ch. 1-11! Chapters 12-16 for Sep 28!*
Yeah! This'll give me a good excuse to go back and play through the alternative path and maybe try for all the collectable doodads.
I never finished it, so I'm definitely in.
My September is pretty slow, so I'll see if I can track down a copy.
Are you going to put these on hiatus over the last part of the year? Because there's basically zero chance I'll play anything from the pile from October to December.
Sally, I think I love you. This is a great idea and I'm glad we've had enough interest to keep going with these. I'm definitely in for this, and will also be for October. If I can speak freely, since Tomb Raider is coming out in Nov, it'd be great if we actually did the first one as the Pile. I've never played it (though maybe most have) but I'll be the first vote to have the original Tomb Raider (from 2013?) be our pile game for that month.
I think I'm in for this. I'm having a lot of fun with the Alien Isolation one. Also, the first Tomb Raider has been on my pile forever so I would be down for that in November.
Sally, I think I love you.
Hey bear, I have had people separately say that to me too
GET A ROOM!
*calls local Holiday Inn*
"Yes - I'd like a room please? What? Oh, for right now. No... not for tonight, for right now. Do you rent by the hour? You ... wait, you do? Okay, well I'll need.... no more than 20 hours. In fact, put me down for 15. Do you have an HDTV in there? You do. Okay, does it have HDMI hookups? What do you mean you don't know?"
Long story short, I have the room now. I can start playing whenever. Just don't make it too long - they've got my card on file.
I may start it sooner because of reasons
Should come in the mail today.
Should come in the mail today.
Weird. Me too. Stop stealing my mail.
I'm in! I only made it a few hours into this game.
I start college again the day after this starts so I'm not going to have QUITE the same amount of free time for this as I did with Alien - that said I've already played it before so I'm not personally fussed if I fall behind or whatnot.
It'll be interesting to go through the alternative timeline for this playthrough though.
Do you want to do a chapter a night (I kinda like this), or do you want to do like week one Chapters 1-5, Week 2 chapters 6-10, and open up chapters the following week to spoilers?
After the initial run with Alien, I'd be more apt to say we go with week blocks instead of daily updates. Just from the experience of the first game, not everyone hopping in may have every every night available to game, but over the course of the week can have the ability to finish a chunk of the game. It may slow down the conversation, but it will increase overall participation in the discussion.
I also think it will help with any participants that may have gotten stressed out by "falling behind" after being just a day or two behind during the Alien play through.
I'm torn. I see the advantages of having spoilers rollover weekly, but I really looked forward to talking about the next chapter each day for alien. On the other hand, it was a little rough staying on pace for alien so I can see the advantages of loosening the schedule up a bit.
In short, I am no help at all.

Plus all the ones. Besides, what happened with Alien anyway was that people didn't necessarily talk about chapter five on the fifth day because they either played ahead or lagged behind.
Also, I like the idea of spreading those sixteen chapters out over a three or four weeks. This is a relatively short game, yes, but if we tried to get it done in a couple of weeks that's still going to eat up a lot of people's available game time. I won't speak for everyone, but I know that I'm looking to play a Sally Club game in addition to things I'm already playing, not instead of. Too fast of a pace means I need to play only the one game just to keep up.

I'm in if we keep this at a slower pace. I still need my Rocket League time
I'm in. This sounds like a good way to get the game off my pile.

I look so adorable.
Sure. I accept your challenge. I will play whatever but vote for about 3 weeks to finish.
I'm good with spreading this one out a bit. I actually generally like keeping the 'play days' to the week as weekends tend to fall behind since I have other plans then.
I just played through the first two chapters yesterday and all I can say is... man, we're in for a treat. This is looking like it's going to be a blast.
I only really started early because I'm also looking for trophy completion stuff.
Yeah actually that's the one I'm using, but through PlaystationTrophies, which is the counterpart. They must've just posted the same guide in both places, but yeah I agree. The descriptions are spot on and Ch. 1 was very easy to clear with the collectibles.
