Windows 10 on a New SSD

Hi, quick question:

I want to upgrade to Win10 on a fresh, new SSD. My machine is running Win8.1 and I have reserved a copy of Win10. My question is how do I do this? It seems the options are (in order of preference)...

1) Download ISO, install on SSD (it seems like others have made this work using the key from my current Win8 disk)
2) Clone existing Win8.1 to SSD, then upgrade to Win10
3) Upgrade existing Win8.1 HDD to Win10, then clone to SSD
4) Install Win8.1 on the SSD, activate with the key, then upgrade to Win10. (will the key and upgrade be valid?)

Thoughts? I have searched and searched to no avail. Any help is appreciated

Install Win 10 on your existing drive and activate it, remove your old hard drive and install the SSD then follow the instructions from this Reddit thread to do a clean install on the SSD.

Thank you for the link. I have had a hard time finding a good, thorough explanation. I will do this first thing Saturday morning.

Ok, so I upgraded my existing HDD from Win8.1 to Win10. That went very smoothly. I checked to make sure it was activated and it was. I downloaded the USB installer from the site and powered my PC off. Removed the HDD and installed the SSD and installed Win10 from the USB. That went well also. After that I put the HDD back in ans I can access the files fine.

My only issue now is windows will not activate. I have tried the command prompt trick and still get an error. Any ideas?

UPDATE: After finding the below suggestion on Reddit, it looks like my copy of win10 has activated and the clean install is complete!! Shiny new SSD working fast and smooth!!

"In the system dialog box where it has the button to activate and change product key, there should be a button "Go to store". I clicked that and then in the new window I noticed there was a link that said "Upgrade to Pro" and the bottom left of the header image. I guess, for some reason, even when I choose Pro for my ISO, it installed home. So I clicked on that link, and it downloaded a few updates and restarted, and I was activated afterwards."
