According to Rocket League reddit, controllers are largely preferred over M+K.
It's definitely a controller game. Mouse precision on the right hand doesn't help, but analog control on the left hand axes sure does.
The mouse is only used as the jump and booster. Moving the mouse does nothing. w and a are for forward and back and ad is turn left and right. The problem is, when in the air, wasd will rotate the car too, which makes me rotate forward on every jump (unless I consciously let go of w when jumping).
I am pretty competitive with the keyboard, but there are some tricks I think I will never be able to do (unless I come up with an different key mapping). If they let me control the rotation of the car in the air with the mouse, I might argue that a K+M is a better controls scheme.
Something I noticed last night while fiddling with the options...adjusting the FOV makes a huge difference in your field awareness.

Ooh, great idea!

What FOV do you use?
Can't remember the number now, but cranked all the way out.
Gumbie, Spikeout and I had a run where we came back from a clutch of goals down to tie it up, before winning it right at the end! It happened a few times and it was fantastic. We were invincible! For a little while, anyway.

I was going to ask about this. I was looking to get this for PC, but don't have a controller and don't really plan to get one.
It reminds me a little of an older game that I still play, Altitude (on Steam). That has a plane ball mode that is pretty fun.

Specifically 3-0 down, then we decided to get serious & won 6-3.
A few great games with the moment of the night coming from RNRClown when he jumped & took flight with his boost somewhere around the midfield area to slam into the ball when it was at the top right hand corner of the goal to score the first ever flying goal I've seen in person. Epicness!
One of us should have saved the recording of that, dammit!!
My Wizard hat save:
And here is two goals in the final second to send a game to overtime!
I had fun last night with Gumbie and ChrisLTD even though we won maybe half of our matches.

I'm considering trying to remap the jump and boost from the mouse buttons to the number pad, and then moving in-air pitch and roll to the right hand keyboard, as well. I'm not sure that buys me much, though. It still seems like it's going to be hard to jump, boost, and do three-axis rotational control all at the same time.
I played this for about 3 hours last night with my nephew and had an absolute blast.
Carlbear, I tried to accept your invite but it wouldn't let both me and my nephew on. I only have one PSN account. Does anyone know how to get a guest player online without another PSN account? I'd love to group up this week with both my nephew and I.

Ya can't.
This has been one of the only 'sleep stealer' games for me in recent memory. CAN'T STOP PLAYING!
Been having lots of fun with it on PS4 in just about every mode. Online Exhibitions and Ranked games are both fun and I'm going through an offline seasons with my sons, which is still surprisingly good because of the play of the bots.
Only niggle I've seen so far are a good number of folks quitting ranked games when their team gets behind. Since you can't join ranked games in progress, this often ends up in minutes of unbalanced play. Does anyone know if folks get a substantial penalty of some sort for quits? if not, this should be implemented right away.

Looking forward to more!
I wouldn't be surprised if it is not addressed because the are replaced by bots immediately.
Unfortunately, quitters are not replaced by bots in ranked play. I've played the majority of some games 1 vs 3 because I refused to quit after teammates did.
I play both ranked and exhibition, and at first I found it somewhat annoying that you got backed out to the main menu for ranked games...until I realized that about half the time it was actually faster to get back into a new ranked game than it was to sit between games in exhibition, waiting for everyone to ready up, or for the game to find new players if a couple left, etc.

I tend to stick it out as well. It just becomes a challenge to see how well I can do! Scoring a goal while outnumbered can be pretty satisfying

Could you use a sub-account? This seems like the obvious solution if it would work. Even if you used it just for the one game, it might be worthwhile.
A guest can definitely play online under your premium account. I've been playing online with a friend who is doing this with another buddy of his. I believe player 2 just needs to create a psn ID, but it does not need to be a paid account.

Here people discuss the issue, and I may have been mistaken:

I might be on earlier, depending on what Sigsbee wants to do. Speaking of which, I need to look into a second PS4 controller thanks to this game.
I should be on tonight.
