Rocket League Catch All

Fall 2019 Roadmap:
https://www.rocketleague.com/news/ro...

Lots in there.

Competitive season ends at end of August so one month left.

Rocket Pass 3 is being extended a bit so there is no break between it and next pass. Challenges are changing a bit again in next pass.

They are adding a “high five” stat to count Dork’s after goal “celebrations”.

Tournaments mode 2.0 in the works.

HDR audio coming.

Some other stuff.

Most important patch yet

It’s starting to feel like the only way I’m improving my solo duel rank is if I just give up on every other playlist for a while and grind duel. It’s a nice break sometimes but it’s hard to stay motivated at it for more than small sessions.

Yesterday I ran into a guy who was being very toxic because I was beating him on kickoffs. When he scored on me for the first time he of course spammed “what a save”. After that I made sure every single goal was a demo or bump goal.

I'm in the market for the FireGod decal and some Twinzers. Looking at some trading sites but thought I'd see if anybody had any here they are willing to deal. Sitting on 11 eggs (see what I did) and whatever else is in my inventory.

As someone who has recently taken a not-quite-voluntary break from RL for...a couple months at this point?... I can say that what started out as burnout has turned into really missing the game.

Spoiler:

My company got hit hard by some of the Chemical Plant issues in the US this year, and that has translated into a month or so straight of 14-16 hour days for me.

I take it as a mark of a good game that the itch has slowly started to come back after this long.

Rocket League’s a hell of a drug

I've got fiber now.

IM BACK BABY

*EDIT*
So I'm playing at around plat level in my placements which isn't too bad (I was diamond the last time I played) so that's not too bad a drop off I guess.

My aerials are awful and getting not great force on the aerial touches but positioning feels very similar.

Gotta clean up some of my goal tending and passes from offensive corners.

Had a horrible slide down 3v3, went all the way from Diamond Div 3-2 to Diamond div 1-2! It felt like everything was against me.

Got myself back onto the training pitch and I'm hitting the ball so much better. I've got myself up to Diamond Div 3-3 and feel a lot more comfortable up there now. So hoping I can make that push into Champ soon! Or, I'll have another terrible drop off!

Current training is focusing on hitting the ball while flying sideways. I just find the controls really weird when the car is on its side in the air, it feels like one of those things I'll never get used to.

Yeah that took me a long time to get comfortable with as well. Upside down always seems easier than sideways. Spinning even feels easier than sideways. Eventually it just clicks after a while.

Kevpert's slalom drills helped a lot. The one you can do in free play is a good place to start and then the columns one that requires custom maps is a good go to. His drill using the striker training stuff is good if you want to focus on hitting a ball. I also used the one where you drive off the inside of one goal in freeplay, fly the length of the field sideways, and land on the inside of the other goal with your wheels on the wall.

Initially you want to work out your blackout moments so you can always recover control no matter the angle of your car. Eventually you get to where you aren't even thinking about the angle, you just fly. It's awesome when it happens. Suddenly so many more plays are possible and you can get good touches in cases you could only soft touch before.

Hoops is a good game mode to practice sideways aerials in matches. The trick is to play most of your defence from your back wall and aerial out to block the ball. On offence aerial off the side wall into a shot without air rolling before you get to the ball.

I haven't played in 2 weeks. Been into some other games. Unless I have some moment of clarity and hot streak next week, I doubt champ is happening this season.

Maybe next season I'll practice more

I've been trying to do the same. Bought some PS4 exclusives I missed out on before and am binging my way through. Also considering getting back into Destiny 2 for the new event.

Still can't keep myself from getting my RL fix every few days tho.

Yup, I'm really comfotable with hitting upside down shots on Kevpert's training pack, they're slowly starting to creep into my game, but I'm missing a fair bit with moving balls. I feel more confident they'll get better though.

I'll checkout the slalom, for sideways it's just working out how to move the nose of the car up and down to gain/lose height that is throwing me, I'm trying most of my focus on really thinking about what I'm doing when these things occur.

Stupid question from a plat level player, but when does flying sideways come in handy? I can't think of times I've wished I was better at doing that.

I think where the different types of flight come in handy are any time you're flying at a ball from a less than ideal position. Being able to manage your car no matter which way it is oriented means you don't have to take time to re-orient before flying toward the ball. Spinning the car can take... what, half a second? ...during which you could already be accelerating toward a 50/50, as an example. All of the car control drills really are just working toward the goal of the car becoming an extension of your will, so that you don't have to think, just react.

^ All this.

The obvious example is when you jump off a wall into an aerial. You don’t want to waste time or mental energy figuring out how to orient your car wheels down before flying when you should be just getting to the ball fast.

I also air roll my aerial shots a lot to hit particular angles I want. Being able to roll early to the angle I want increases my speed. Often to get the touch I need on the ball I have to aerial one direction beside the ball then rotate and aerial into the ball from a different direction. The only way to do that fast is if you can fly and change orientation quickly with spins or Kux twists and not get messed up by the orientation change.

You might think that’s rare but at my rank you have to be able to change the ball direction unexpectedly mid air to get around defenders and you have to do it fast because everyone is very fast at aerial defence. Everything you can do to shave off time from your mechanics is important at this level.

Crates are being removed from RL later this year in favor of a store where you buy things directly (like in Fortnite):

I doubt anyone is surprised.

Huh.

Goodbye key economy.

Edit: Also, this page of the thread has me itching to play for some reason. I haven't played in months.

Hopefully they give us a way to “trade up” crates for something before they retire them. I have thousands of them in never going to open.

Come back to the darkside. Just play 1 game tonight. What's the worst that can happen? It's not like 1 game will turn into 2, which will turn into 3, which will turn into you playing every possible minute you can afford to spend on gaming so you can feel the sweet sweet adrenaline of Rocket League pulsing through your body.

Just going to put a plug here for the GWJ Fantasy Football Leagues. Would love to see some familiar faces join!

They didn't mention anything about painted trade-up cars and wheels. I'm curious if my white octane is about to drop in value by $100 or if it will still only be available through trade-ups like now.

I'm curious how Psyonix is planning to handle painted item cost in the new system or if all paint colors will cost the same. Has anyone used the Fortnite system? Is there an equivalent to painted?

Some Psyonix comments from Reddit about crates being retired:

Crates will remain in your inventory until we roll out changes. At that time, any Crates you still possess will be replaced with a usable alternative. We'll have more information on that in the coming months.
We can't speak to details just yet, but making "Keys" - or whatever replaces them - untradable would be very damaging to the trade economy, and doesn't meaningfully satisfy our company goals around removing random purchases. Take from that what you will.
Keys will still be sold while the Crate system remains in-game. After the Crate system is removed, the value of any remaining keys in a player’s inventory will be honored. We’ll have more information in the coming months.
For changing Keys specifically, we will make Rocket Pass use the same currency system as whatever Keys "become", so you would still have the same value (~10 keys = 1 RP Premium Upgrade) in your account before and after the change.
We fully expect items currently obtainable in crates to be obtainable via the new systems we roll out in the future.

I see what you're plotting, pizzaddict, and I like it.

404 hours of play and a lot of hard work in training, it's paid off! I didn't think I'd manage it for another 100 hours or so.

Congrats!

Grats, Clusks! That's really an achievement!

Hello, new here. Jumped in on the discord channel, then realized I can check the forum too. I will just lurk here picking up wisdom. Before you ask, I suck at RL. But it' sbeen fun so far. Been playing duos with a buddy from work. It's his fault, really, I came back to it. It's just fun to be able to play and chat at the same time. Screaming at each other "I got this!" and missing the ball 2 metres to the left.

My computer is broke. I haven't played RL in over 24 hours and I'm starting to get the shakes. I watched some videos during my lunch break but that only made it worse. I'm really hoping I can get my computer booting again or I'm not sure what tomorrow will be like.
