Rocket League Catch All

Hit me up.

Dorkmanship and I are learning Hoops. Some parts are definitely unlike other game modes. I'm still getting a lot of moments on defense where I just don't know what to do but our offence is starting to come together.

My goodness your a beast at those aerial rotations Panda, that's one thing I need to start dedicating training time to. Hoops really gets you used to taking lighter, deft touches of the ball to set yourself up for the Rocket League version of a slam dunk!

Yeah we kept setting up nice plays and then hitting the shot too hard.

One thing I’m liking is that a nice straight shot that just goes over the hoop and in is about the same height as a top 90 shot in regular RL nets so those shots in hoops are good practice in general.

I’m very comfortable with backboard defense and blocking shots from the wall but when I’m on the ground and a shot is coming down into the net I frequently get mixed up and can’t get the save. It’s one of those things I just need more experience with. While we figure that out our winning tactic is to just score goals at a pace the other team can’t keep up with.

Nice goals and passes.

Favorite part was Drunk Dork at 0:30 - 0:35.

Lol yeah Flopmanship.

Dork had lots of good plays and goals of his own. Unfortunately I have a bias towards recording only my own goals and my recordings are from my perspective so you can’t see most of the setups.

Of course I didn’t record all the times we messed up kickoffs or blocks either and it was a lot

Had a good double XP weekend, as I hope everyone did.

Warning, vid is 5 minutes long.

Being sick in bed all 2xp weekend sucks

Sorry buddy. Bottle rockets went until 2am Eastern this week for that sweet XP bonus

More good advice from Johnnyboi_i

After being in Plat for what seemed like forever, I FINALLY hit Diamond!

Congrats!

So my first official ranked game at Diamond and 1 of my teammates disconnects probably 30 seconds into the game. Between a little luck and some good defense, my other teammate and I are able to keep the other team scoreless and we head into the final seconds of the game with a 0-0 score. Then with 14 seconds left my teammate throws up a pass off the wall and I'm able to go up and knock it in to give us the 1-0 lead and eventual win. It was fun watching the comments from the other team after the game and especially as we got into the last minute or so of the game as you could read the stress as they were realizing they might lost a game playing 3v2.

I'm probably just missing something, but is there no way to just search for something in this thread and not the whole site?

I was going to ask about camera settings, figured it's already been discussed but can't find a good way to search first.

I tried using this in google and it didn't return much. I feel there has been more discussion on this in the past:

Hmm, well realized yesterday that I've been running my camera FOV at 100 and not maxed at 110 as I've seen others suggest should be done. I made the change and felt like after a few games I had adjusted to the new size of everything. I'm not sure if it has improved my gameplay yet but didn't seem to make it worse anyway.

Are there any other camera/game settings you guys suggest changing from default? I also have the shake off which seems like an obvious one.

I remember seeing a table of all of these professional RL players camera setups and honestly they were all different. Even the FOV wasn't the same.

If someone can find/post it, then I would just try a few out and tweak from there.

Ranked season 10 ends on Monday May 13.

Yeah still stuck in diamond 3. Don't think champ is happening this weekend.

The wide angle camera preset in game is a good place to start. Tweak from there to your preference.

Sometimes cars are hard to see and you lose track of a player but with nameplates always visible you can easily see where everyone is. Set nameplates to always show so no matter how far away someone is you always see their nameplate. I also set nameplate size to maximum but that is just preference.

For controls it doesn’t matter how you do it but make sure you can powerslide/airroll at the same time as boosting and jumping so you can learn all movement mechanics without having to change your controls again later. It helps to make room for a directional airroll button so you can half flip the easy way but you can still do the old way without it.

Make sure you can look around to see where people are and have good awareness while controlling your car which essentially means make sure the controls you use don’t prevent you from using the view controls. I know some players who have massively changed their controls from the defaults then at higher ranks realized they need better awareness but can’t easily look around while playing because the right stick is uncomfortable to use while driving. You can, of course, play without looking around but you’ll never have the awareness of someone who can easily glance around and that will hurt your game.

End of season is the worst possible time to go for a new rank especially if you are on the bubble. All the smurfs are out in force helping friends rank up. It’s a good time to work on getting better for next season but a very bad time to try to rank up if you aren’t massively improving yourself.

Thanks for the info Panda. I'll try the name plate thing as there have been times when I've sent a long hard shot towards the goal thinking it was clear only to find out there was something back there in net that I just couldn't see.

I moved my airroll to my left bumper a few weeks back and have mostly gotten used to that now so I can do both at the same time easier.

GGs last night

Found a good training pack for working on powershot accuracy and consistency:
6CF3-4C0B-32B4-1AC7

First shot in the pack is nice for practicing purposefully aiming at different parts of the net.

Looks like I will have to wait for next season to get Diamond rewards. Went into last night at Diamond 1 div 2 and needing 3 wins, ended last night at Plat 3 div 3 and needing 3 wins. I'm not sure how many games in a row I lost but it felt like a lot.

Saw you on while we were playing Bottle Rockets. Wish you had come and grabbed some of us to help.

I should have quit earlier but thought I would eventually start winning games. I’ll try one more push today to see if I can climb back up.

Ran into some hardcore smurfs last night. One guy had a silver rank but was pulling off some pretty impressive up-field redirects I would expect from champ or high diamond.

Watching RLCS EU regional finals right now and I have to say Kaydop is making a very strong case for why Dignitas should NOT have let him go. His connection with Scrub is phenomenal. Vitality is very exciting to watch this season. Some great team plays from a team that is made up of the 3 of the best solo duel players in the world.

As in other sports, sometimes a change is in the best interest of everybody. Often the change of scenery acts as a kind of wake-up call (or even a need for revenge or validation in the player), and he wouldn't have necessarily been the same player if he'd stayed put.

Alas I did not reach my goal of getting into Diamond in Solo Standard which seems harder than being Grand Champ in Standard/Duos. Didn't play enough to really try but ended up in Plat 1.

I still don't understand how if I solo queue into regular standard I can get Diamond 2, but Plat anything in Solo Standard is like climbing mount everest.
