Here's the game:
Someone posts two actors. You need to connect them through their film roles using six or less connections. We'll work on an honors system of no cheating online. If two answers are posted at the same time, the one with the fewest degrees wins. When you post your answer, pose 2 more actors to keep the thread going.
Example:
Nic Cage and Will Ferrell
Nic Cage, Meryl Streep - Adaptation
Meryl Streep, John C Reilly - The River Wild
John C Reilly, Will Ferrell - Step Brothers
When you post your answer, post two more actors to keep the thread going.
FAQ
Does it have to be actors?
Yeah, if we expand into directors, writers, etc it gets too easy.
What Constitutes Cheating?
So I am a realist when it comes to Internet cheating and know that if something is on the tip of your tongue (brain?) you're going to look it up -- the name of a movie or actor that you can place but don't remember the name, something like that. You have your connection, but you can't say "that guy who played X character" or "that movie where they stole all those cars" or something, so you can look up in that case.
Things that are off limits are looking through the actors' IMDB pages/wikipedia pages/lists or outright searching for answers like you mention, typing two names or searches into Google to lead you to answers.
Are directors okay or only actors?
What constitutes internet cheating? Like, can I look at Laura Linney's wikipedia page to remember the title of the movie she was in with Jim Carrey (ie. The Truman Show)? Are we simply trying to avoid typing "Donald Sutherland and Laura Linney" into Google?
Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton - The Italian Job
Edward Norton, Laura Linney - Primal Fear
I actually took a much, much longer path to that. I was trying to tie Laura Linney to Marky Mark and the Italian Job, but forgot Edward Norton was in it too for a while!
Are we simply trying to avoid typing "Donald Sutherland and Laura Linney" into Google?
I'd say also trying to avoid going to IMDB and tracing actors that way.
Clint Eastwood and Kevin Bacon
Honestly, I had fun going down my Laura Linney -> Jim Carrey -> Mark Ruffalo thinking also. That led me to Edward Norton as they both played the Hulk which led me to thinking about Primal Fear which led me to thinking about a bunch of other stuff but eventually the lightbuld turned on with the Italian Job and Edward Norton.
I also had an easy connection with Clint Eastwood via Mytic River, but he directed. Boo.
That really stretched my brain.
I have too much time on my hands right now.
I have too much time on my hands right now.
This is the best time to play this game.
Especially with this Clint -> Kevin connection. I've been going through so many movies in my head, but have yet to really find the connection just yet.
If I hadn't used the Baconator thingy I don't know if I would've figured a connection out between ol Clint and Kevin Bacon. But you know there has to be one! (Hint: there's many.)
HA HA! I figured it out!
Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman -> Unforgiven
Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio -> Quick And The Dead
Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson-> Departed
Jack Nicholson, Kevin Bacon -> Few Good Men
Okay, let's go with:
Seth Rogan and Geena Davis

If directors counted, Mystic River in 1. Otherwise, 2 steps through Apollo 13 - Ed Harris - Absolute Power.
Okay, let's go with:
Seth Rogan and Geena Davis
Seth Rogan and James Franco -> The Interview
James Franco and Thomas Haden Church -> Spiderman 3
Thomas Haden Church and Emma Stone -> Easy A
Emma Stone and Michael Keaton -> Birdman
Michael Keaton and Gina Davis -> Beetlejuice
Everyone circles back to The Simpsons, for the most part, as a guest. I fear that I made this thread too easy if that's allowed.
Shorter connection...you want to steal the next actors from Domano and pose 2 different people, or let him have it?
Oh no, I just want to let Domano how bad he did. Besides, I cheated for that.
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Mary Elizabeth Winstead

It's hard to get from Seth Rogan to anyone without Franco, isn't it?
I was thinking of doing Rogan to Danny McBride to Natalie Portman (Your Highness) to Liam Hemsworth (Thor) to Samuel Jackson (Avengers) to Geena Davis (Long Kiss Goodnight) but I was trying to think of something shorter.

Movies only!

I was going to go with Steve Carrell or Paul Rudd from 40 Year Old Virign, but that made me think of comics, which led to Spiderman, so I connected the two Spiderman universes.
I had included TV in the original post even though I've never played that way....does that make it too complicated? I didn't think about how cameos might play out.
Everyone's been on the Tonight Show.
I can only name 1 movie that Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has been in, and 1 movie that Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been in, so....
Mary Elizabeth Winstead -> Brandon Routh (Scott Pilgrim)
Brandon Routh -> Kevin Spacey (Superman Returns)
Kevin Spacey -> Ed Harris (Glengary Glen Ross)
Ed Harris -> Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Abyss)
Jennifer Lawrence and Jimmy Stewart
