After a few recent posts in the "Post a news story, entertain me!" it seems it is time for a new thread. This one distinguishes itself from the other two "Post a news story..." thread in that its contents are not necessarily "depressing", but do contain enough pain, injury or death that they probably can't count as "entertaining" either.
My personal criteria is that if the subject of the story was probably preceded with the phrase "Hold my beer and watch this", it's probably fair game for this thread.
A few to start us off...
Man dies after attempting to launch a firework from his head.
Yes, alcohol was involved.
Alcohol was probably involved.
Woman upset over self-checkout hits Woodman’s manager with VCR
Police said it is unclear why Elkinton had a VCR with her at a grocery store.Yup that's right, she brought the VCR in with her.
That is actually the store we buy our groceries at. While the self checkout can sometimes be a pain it has never tempted me to become violent, and they definitely don't sell VCRs.
So this is like the nominees for this year's Darwin Awards? This should be interesting...
Most Americans consider a basic knowledge of physics to be about as desirable as kidney stones.
I know this isn't a post-a-picture thread, but it's certainly dark humor...

Ooof, those comments are brutal.
Man shot for not having a size 10 spanner. That is not a euphemism.
As opposed to the U.S., where a Black man could get shot by cops for HAVING said spanner. In fact, I didn't see that "not" in your headline, and thought that's where you were going with it.

"Did you ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight? No? Well, have you got a #10 spanner? Those are two things I always ask my prey"

Yeah, I don't tend to have a lot of sympathy for stupid. I rather enjoyed some of the comments.
MADRID (AP) – A Spanish mayor says a man has died after being gored while taping a bull-run with his cell phone.
That's a remarkable phone that includes video tape.
When are people going to stop using that ananchronism?

Probably not in our lifetime. If you grew up when they "did it", then you'll still use that terminology (or see it being used by your peers). How many "non-SONY" portable music players did a generation refer to as a "Walkman", regardless of branding?
Just think of all the weird things your grandparents say. Mine still refer to going to the movies as "going to the pictures" or "catching a matinee". They still refer to them as 'talkies' from time to time, from when sound was introduced. They recall the piano player playing the score to the silent movies of Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
Language dies with it's users.

While "going to the pictures" is obviously a relic, "catching a matinee" is still accurate. The few times I actually go to a movie theater (usually once or twice per year), I do it before 6 PM, so techincally I'm also catching a matinee.

The day we stop talking about broken records and hanging up the phone.

But vinyl records are still being made and sold, as are turntables on which to play them. And the same goes for traditional telephones operating on landlines, especially in the business sector. I would argue that "taping" a video is way more archaic at this point. Are video tape recorders even manufactured these days?

Well I still rewind my streaming videos, so there.

You could try the Pyongyang Sharper Image.
I'm using a bunch of programs where the "save" icon is a 3.5" floppy, so...
Dial tone. Anyone still have a rotary phone?

No, but I still have a cordless phone on a land line and it has a dial tone.

...and that was back in the good ol' days, when you could literally double the capacity of your floppy disk by physically cutting a hole in it.
But nobody DIALS anymore.
Dial tone. Anyone still have a rotary phone?
My wife had one until.. 2002 or so.
