Super Mario Makers Catch-All

I love it!

Nintendo really is trying to do some crazy cross-promotion.

I have mixed feelings, but more due to my own hipster bullsh*t, so I'll just say "That's pretty cool, wonder if they'll include it stateside."

Well, if nothing else, that video has lead to me watching an embarrassing amount of Babymetal in the past few days. How did I not know about them before? Japan, you da best.

My kids love Baby Metal (LadyBaby still cares the crap out of them however), so I'm hoping they don't get a whiff of this until it is confirmed outside of Japan. They already have that country on their radar, thanks to the holographic Squid Sister concerts I've shown them.

Edit to add LadyBaby clip:

Guys, I just played the Babymetal course and got the costume. I feel good!

Hot off the press: House of Hardcore Physics. Trying to get my love of multilayered "mousetrap" mechanics out of my system. I have no idea how this level will play for someone going in cold so feedback is definitely welcome.

The House of Hardcore Physics

(Guess it's more of a cave than a house.)

Bookmarked to try it next time I fire up Mario Maker!

Every time I see this thread pop up with new posts (it's in my favorites) I feel a little guilty that I've focused so much on playing games in my "Pile" instead of returning to Super Mario Maker.

I have not forgotten my project to make 8 worlds of Mario 3 levels! I'm just having so much Pile success this year that I don't want to lose my momentum. Seven games completed in four months so far!

Farscry, glad to hear it! I've wondered now and then if/when you'll get those SMB3 worlds for us to play.

Gave this a try last night!

The first section (before the first (only?) halfway point) was pretty difficult, but I got through it after multiple tries.

I got stuck at the second halfway point, though, and eventually gave up.

I tried kicking a shell through the spikes to the right of the halfway point, and I recall that doing so sent some item/enemy (don't recall) back to the left and I followed it back to the left. Doing THAT triggered a P-switch to become available, which I hit, sending a muncher (IIRC) back to the right again, and after I got as far back to the right as I could go, moving along with the muncher... nothing seemed to happen. I was still stuck on the left side of the spikes.

I also tried the approach of jumping through the spikes at the halfway point location (bouncing off a shell that was stuck bouncing back and forth in place between a spike and a 1-way gate to avoid landing on spikes), and actually managed to do it once after many tries -- but couldn't figure out where to go after that.

A hint would be welcome, I'd like to be able to finish it!

You won't need your controller's jump button for this one!

Thanks for trying it out! The p block you hit also drops a trampoline down allowing you to hop to the upper level and continue back to the right. Maybe I should have had that happen where the p block pops out...you actually have to go back to the left from there to see where the trampoline drops.

A fairly easy up-and-down course:

Peach Has Her Ups And Downs

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Mario Goes Skiing

Facetious warning: Do not play if the idea of being chased by a giant Chain Chomp frightens you!

Terror, Unchained!

I'm gonna try and play your new ones tomorrow. Have to get myself out of VR first.

Thanks, Warriorpoet!

I'm on another Mario Making kick, can y'all tell?

This level may get you a bit lost. (I'm a bit curious how difficult it turns out to be!)

Déjà Vu...? (Edit: v2)

And a "bonus" level I kicked out in a couple extra minutes before bed: A medium-difficulty, no-enemies, SMB1-theme jumping challenge.

Luigi Likes Leaping

Good timing, I've been feeling the itch to dive back in again too

Though, my time away hasn't helped with my creative block for stage 10-1. I may just scrap the level entirely and start over with a different concept. I'm trying to make a water level but struggling to come up with an idea that fits with my approach to classic SMB3 level design.

When I was making my 1-1 though 8-4 series, I made the levels in whatever order occurred to me, instead of in order. I think the first level that I made that ended up surviving in its original form was my World 8-2!

The bummer, of course, is that to get them to show up in the correct sequence on your profile, you need to delete and re-upload them all when you're done.

I'm super glad I made my 1-1 through 8-4 SMB1-style complete game, but I am having a lot of fun now just making whatever levels occur to me! Here's my effort from earlier tonight:

Cavern of Flying Keys

Wrong thread somehow.

Wrong thread somehow.

More levels, because why not!

Rocky Wrench and the Ninja Gophers - A google search reveals that the single result on the Internet for this phrase (until now?) was an archived copy of a 1990 issue of Nintendo Power magazine. Somehow, that phrase had stuck in my head for all these years, so I make a short level out of it!

Danger: Low Ceiling! - Playing with the mechanic of the surprising jumps that Mario can make even with very limited vertical overhead space.

Ballistophobia - Guess what enemy this course features?

That's hilarious!

I suddenly want to make a video game cover band in the style of 50's and 60's pop diner rock with that name.

My last few levels have been kind of "quick concept" levels that took less than an hour apiece to make, but here's a bit more extensive one:

Spooky Sanctum

For a while now I've wanted to do a level with a theme of kicking koopa troopas to smash blocks out of the way. I'd started and abandoned a couple of versions of such a level. Yesterday and today, I finally came up with a version that I'm pretty happy with!

Kick Koopa to Continue

Oh yeah!

Saw a new post notification, clicked it expecting a new level posting (and damn I really need to fire this up again and get caught up on the levels you folks are making!), and

OMGWTF SPIT-TAKE INSTANT HYYYYYYYYYPE

Frankly the local sharing limitation sucks.
