Super Mario Makers Catch-All

My Wii U is saved! I managed to get the going-bad drive to power up ok one more time, long enough to move all the data off of it and onto another drive.

Quick & easy new level which those of you which played Metroid or Super Metroid might appreciate: Mario Detours Through Brinstar

WarriorPoet, I cleared your new levels, but they were tough! In "Use Those Koopas!" in particular I appreciated the neat mechanics with the Koopa shells but died repeatedly to red bullet bills, getting stuck in a couple of different places, and (finally) to the flying spiny fleet towards the end.

TriangleCat, I played "Fire or Ice?" twice and enjoyed both paths!

Thanks for trying out my stuff! Yeah I may re-upload with those segments tweaked for difficulty. The easiest way to finish the segments with the red bullets is to hop out of the clown car at the top of the last turn and fall to the pipe. Still working on getting a feel for what a player will think walking into a level cold.

Mario and Bowser Jr. Team Up - Wanted to call it "Mario and Bowser Jr.'s Co-op Adventure" but there wasn't quite enough room! A (unfortunately necessary) trick to this one is that if Bowser Jr. starts refusing to follow Mario, then Mario needs to move to Jr.'s left and then back to his right to "reset" him.

I really enjoyed this one even though it took me w few tries to get Bowser Jr. to fire the POW block. Really neat concept.

Hint: Let Yoshi Go For A Ride! - My first stab at a one-screen puzzle level.

This one was a lot of fun and I actually cleared it. It gives me a few ideas for my own levels. Nice work.

Here's my first stab at a themed level:

Ganon's Fortress - a Zelda themed level that focuses a bit more on adventure and puzzles than platforming.

And here is my first "auto" level. This was a lot of fun to mess around with.

Run with the Shells, Forrest! - Put your trust in the level maker.

Warriorpoet897, thanks for testing those! If you recall, do you mean the POW block midway through the course, or the one at the very end?

I wish there was an (easy) way to post and share replays of Mario Marker course play-throughs.

It was the one in the middle I believe. Bowser Jr. had a tendency to hang back and spit fire at me in an endless loop rather than hit the POW block. I think if you know what to do and just move quickly from one section to the next, then it works as planned, but if you hesitate too long and B. stands up, it messes with the plan.

Hot off the press: The Ice Tower. A vertical level with lot of sliding and some interesting mechanics. I feel pretty good about this one.

I need to get this game back out this weekend and try out more of your levels, sir!

I have bookmarked it to try as well!

And Farscry, I'm still waiting on the rest of your SMB3-style levels. Don't think you're off the hook on those.

Thanks guys. I finally broke 50 stars so I can upload more levels. I felt pretty good about that until I saw all the people who have like thousands of stars. Maybe one day.

My second proper upload (the kid uploaded one of the three from my account) is Two Hard?.

The title is a play on words and I'm curious if it's easy to figure out.

I liked the "challenging but not punishing" difficulty level in this one! Also appreciated the nicely-spaced checkpoints since it was a longer level. (When I just reviewed the level layout on the bookmark site to refresh my memory, I noticed that I'm the current time record holder with a blistering time of 3 minutes 37 seconds!)

Nice short and sweet level! On my first play I cleared it in one life but just barely -- I was slow getting

Spoiler:

up onto the top path formed by the P-switched coins, and ended up falling down and

...luckily landing on one of the note blocks right near the end, and bouncing to the goal from there.

I like how the

Spoiler:

"main" / lower path through the level

is difficult but not impossible. After lots of attempts, I managed to clear the level that way in just under 7 seconds.

Wolverinejon--played a few of your levels the other day. You have some really cool ideas that I'm going to steal from.

I just uploaded this one but I didn't spend as much time messing with it as I usually do. I think there are some good ideas in there though. Bowser Jr.'s Tower of Terror

Really appreciate that.

The kid asked me to do a hard level and that's what sprang from my mind in about an hour. I really need to get a second Wii U so the kid can do his own thing while I do mine too. lol

Thanks! Please do!

I'm out of town on business at the moment, but I've bookmarked that level to try when I get home next week!

Patch 1.40 is live:

* Added new course elements such as Skewer and Key.
* Added Super Expert difficulty to 100 Mario Challenge mode, unlockable by clearing Expert difficulty.
* Added ranking lists for players with the most World Record clears and First clears of courses to the Super Mario Maker Bookmark website.
* A number of issues have also been fixed to make for a pleasant gaming experience.

Sounds like the key is droppable by enemies, finally giving us a "real" solution to "You must beat this boss to proceed" levels.

Seriously, I'm stoked about this update!

Once I knock out either X-Com 2 or Trails in the Sky, Mario Maker is getting some love from me again! It's either that, or WolverineJon might resort to sending someone to strongarm me into getting back to work on my SMB3 stages.

WolverineJon wrote:

That's one of the explicit purposes of the key+lock door, per the recent Nintendo Direct.

I'm also excited about the red coins that give you the key once you grab them all.

I'm seeing things on the facebook group and elsewhere that they've added slopes as well. I haven't tried it yet, but if that's true it's strange it's not lost anywhere. I hope its true.

My first experiment with the new mechanics: Pink Coin Cavern

My first experiment with the new mechanics: (Not available as it's too hard and I can't beat it within 500 seconds)

I don't think slopes are in the game, but if Nintendo snuck them in there without telling anyone that may be the best thing ever, even though I don't actually care that much about slopes.

Anyway, the new key-stuff might be the best additional content added to the game yet, and the key coins really open up the possibilities for non-linear Mario levels. Or for frustratingly difficult auto-scrolling levels.

MechaSlinky wrote:

Ew. Yeah. I dislike levels where you can get "stuck" -- not dead yet, but no way to win -- and an auto-scroll level with missable pink coins that are required to complete the level would definitely qualify as that.

Those missable pink coins unlocking a bonus room with some 1-ups might be fun, though!

Totally! And speaking of things that aren't dead yet, I uploaded a new level that is sweeping the nation! This level is literally the only thing that will fill that vast, dark void in your heart!

Bowser's Last Stand (For Today) - 4479-0000-01F1-CB6C

PRO-TIP: Yoshi can eat things with his mouth!

Bowser's Last Stand got the best of me! I gave up after some 25 tries. Farthest I got was the area with the 2 large Magikoopas (where I couldn't figure out what to do). I only had about a 33% success rate of getting past the very first enemy (the Hammer Bro.) which made repeatedly retrying kind of frustrating.

I made a quick level last night using the new enemy-holds-key mechanic: A Podoboo Holds the Key

Here's my first level wth pink coins and keys. Tried to stick more closely to the "adventure" game thing with not really anything that can hit you per se. Ganon's Maze of Doom

Today is a Super Mario Maker and Twilight Princess HD morning! I played the TP HD special event course which is quite fun. Now I'll try a few of your new courses. It's been awhile since I've played.

I have two Zelda themes levels that might interest you.

Oh man, the Toadette course and Toadette sprite is so cute! The exclamation when you jump is so great.

I had an idea for an underwater level involving blue skull trains (the fast variety) that go flying off the tracks, and here's what that turned into:

Blue Skull ⇔ Rapid Ride

The cross-over I would have never anticipated:

I love me some BABYMETAL, but this is just bizarre.

I don't know, that just makes sense to me.
