Dark Souls 3 Catch-All

I'm sure Clusks could add that to this thread title. :)

Done and done! Added to the title and the spoiler thread has been linked in the initial post.

I'd worry that the word "major" is going to lead to a lot of differences of opinion.

By the way, if I'm coming off as an uptight spoiler-paranoid rules lawyer...yep, that's fair.

I'm not entirely sure, I guess the Bloodborne thread was quite good for this sort of thing, pretty much everything was discussed with caution and anything specific was put in spoiler tags. Maybe I'll take the spoiler tag out of the title, but keep the link to the spoiler thread in the main post?

Just so I understand, no story spoilers but progress spoilers (within tags) are ok? For example, how to pass a certain boss or obstacle? Or if there are a bunch of traps in a certain location and someone spoiler tags it, is that ok? or what upcoming bosses there are? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just want to make sure I understand because usually there isn't much overt story in souls games

Some players really want a play through where they know nothing about the game. I'd pretty much spoiler tag anything after the first tutorial area.

Man At Arms: Reforged
Making: The Great Sword of Artorias

Spoilered for some images and possible content.

I'll be streaming some of the PC version tonight at 7PM CST if anyone wants to check it out! Maybe three bonfires into the game so far with an Assassin build. It'll be on Twitch.

Just finished watching this. Very enjoyable, thanks.

I wish I could understand why I feel so drawn to playing this. I know I will be terrible, I know I have tons of other games to play.

I hope that Ratchet & Clank coming out next week too will make it so I don't care.

(but I will buy it used when someone is done, or gives up)

This might be of interest to you.

I think the talk of the difficulty does the series a tremendous disservice, precisely because it causes reactions like this. I had the same feeling you did going into Bloodborne - I felt drawn to play it, but I figured I'd be terrible. My twitch based skills had eroded rapidly in adulthood, afterall. I'm glad I made the jump and did it, and I can't wait to make III my first Souls game proper.

This is a good example of something that some of us (me, maybe no one else) would consider a spoiler: Names of boss soul weapons.

With Bloodborne, I just checked out of the discussion entirely. Maybe I should just do that here, but I'd still like a place to kind of geek out in extremely vague terms, and to spoiler tag anything remotely questionable.

But... that's a weapon from Dark Souls 1, not 3... (that I know of)

I'll go back and spoiler it anyway.

I didn't watch the video, but it says Dark Souls 3 right in the video title.

When in doubt, put it in the other thread or in spoiler tags. Better safe yadda yadda.

It IS a weapon from Dark Souls I and it makes an appearance in II as well (Majestic Great Sword). It's debatable, but I would personally consider it a legacy type of item, much like Muramasa and Excalibur in the FF series, in that it is expected to be included.

Still, Spoiler tags are a good measure at least for the time being, though I don't know how much a new player to the series or just III would glean from the mention of this specific weapon.

That story was great. Dammit - now I want a remastered Dark Souls for the PS4.

This is what I meant earlier by "differences of opinion."

And I don't expect most old weapons or items to return. Most boss weapons didn't make it to DS2. The only weapon that seems like a certainty to me is Moonlight Greatsword.

I'm sure we can all agree that the presence of

in DS2 was a very cool surprise; that's the kind of thing I'd prefer to avoid seeing. Again, maybe there's no way to do that and still discuss the game spoiler-free. But I don't see where names of boss soul weapons would need to be in this thread, rather than the spoiler-friendly one.

My copy is here .

Spoiler:

It has a proper old school manual. For some reason I find that very pleasing.

To be honest I'm still feeling it out. It's VERY Dark Souls, which is kinda what you want, but after Bloodborne I feel like I'm trying to remember the steps to a dance I learned a decade ago. The timing is just flat out different.

I may have to put a bit more time between Bloodborne (just been playing it) and Dark Souls. If feels uncomfortably different at the moment. It would be ironic if, having dreaded the sped up combat in Bloodborne before playing it, I find I can't get back into the slower paced Dark Souls. I'm sure I'll reacclimatise eventually but I suspect it'll take a while.

Edit: Ok, that didn't take long. I'm into it. Hello shield, my old friend.

I also have a new power I've brought over from Bloodborne: Parrying!! (I'm ashamed to say I didn't really parry (on purpose) in DS 1 and 2.)

I just have one thing to say to all of you who already have the game:

I hate you.

Lovingly yours,

brokenclavicle

Question to anyone who has played it:

Is DS3 gameplay influenced by bloodborne at all, or is it still a fairly slow paced game?

90% DS/10% BB

Turned on the PS4, and got a notice that DSIII is downloading!
Very excited, though I'd like to platinum Bloodborne first.

Found this really practical guide to fighting bosses in Dark Souls. Lots of tips I need to remember, and surely a big help to any newcomers to the series:

Spot on.

Well, I did it. I sold out my beloved Xbox ecosystem and preordered on PS4. And the whole thing installed in less than an hour. I am Prepared To Die!

Spoiler:

That's a Dark Souls reference, universe. Please, my family needs me.

I hope I get my key, I hope I get my key ....

Pre-ordered and installing. 27.5 hours to go.

My CE probably won't get here till Tues... but I'm oncall this week, so boo-urns anyhow.

Woot!

Spoiler for a weapon but it's one that you know is going to be in the game:

Spoiler:

I have the Uchigatana. For now, I'm going to try to learn it's moves and progress with it. I really wanted to use it as my main weapon in Dark Souls one but didn't have the nerve to move away from the weapons I'm was having success with. At the moment I feel more of a danger to myself than anyone else but it makes me fight deliberately and in a different way from previous Souls games.

Today is the day!

Is it 6pm yet?? WHY NOT?

I'm pretty sure Steam will automatically unlock it, so I left my computer on this morning. Hopefully it'll be ready to go by the time I get home from work.

US servers are up! My early Xbox One copy is online
