ARK: Survival Evolved - Catch All

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with the regular rafts. The Advanced Rafts function and look the same, but with a few key differences.

Firstly, they can hold much larger structures:

Both in terms of foundation size and in terms of structures. There are lots of Advanced Raft building guides on Youtube you can study.

Secondly, You can reverse! Doesn't make sense from a 'sailing' point of view, but once you've hidden the sail mast in order to build your floating fortress, and built the whole thing out of stone, all bets are off anyway, in terms of making sense.

Thirdly, You can set the viewing distance and top speed. I haven't had a need for anything other than 'full' speed, but the option is there. Viewing distance greatly increases the ability to pilot a very large ship, and has the added bonus that you can manoeuvre the camera to see underwater while you sail, being on the look out for the raft-eating whales.

And yes, everyone has to wait for the mods to load. An unfortunate downside of adding a lot of content to the game. There's your client actually loading the mod content, so there's no way around it, sadly. I don't mind so much, as I usually just click to join the server, then go read the internet for the few minutes it takes to load in.

How are you guys finding server performance, ping times, rubber banding (if any), and just general responsiveness?

So are regular rafts pretty much useless? What do the advanced rafts provide over the default rafts? I've seen a lot of default raft builds from a YouTube channel called xOneWingx. He does a lot of indepth Ark raft builds which are pretty cool.

Also, does anyone else have to wait for Ark to go through Loading all 23 mods every time they connect to Omni's server? Did I do something wrong that it has to constantly do that?

Mine does that too. I think it's due to subscription through Steam. If you download them directly and install it may go faster but I haven't tried it yet.

So I'm having an issue where my Trike can't harvest anything. I still hit trees but it doesn't harvest thatch and I'm not hitting plants at all. Anyone else have this issue?

That's pretty weird, does it do the same for other dinos? Other gathering (i.e. by hand)?

I know the server was very recently updated and restarted, so perhaps you connected *just* as it came back up and was still sorting itself out?

I won't get to jump on a test myself for another 4.5 hours or so, but let me know if it's still an issue and I'll see if the other admin can take a look.

Good info on the rafts and server has been running great so far. My ping is a little high (130) but I really don't see any performance issues at all.

My friend Lacenor (real name Ryan) finally got logged in but I couldn't get him invite to the tribe. Malkroth tried as well and couldn't either.

One last question. I've been doing a lot of exploring (1st time on Center map) and didn't realize there are some really cool new ruin structures in the game. Lacenor and I are planning on making a base closer to the middle area (like a large central hub). What is the rule for building around these ruins? Do they have a purpose? I haven't tried really doing much except exploring but I couldn't see any real purpose except cosmetic.

I didn't realize what all the Center Map had! http://www.inquisitr.com/3102973/ark...

It is a rather beautiful map... If you haven't already, I recommend taking a flier up to the Floating 'Center' Island, and going inside. There's also a giant underground cavern linked by tunnels that is worth a look. There's a Cave inside a giant Waterfall at the back of the Redwoods, and also a HUGE waterfall between the Redwoods area and the mainland in the West of the map.

I'm just not a *huge* fan of how limited land-based dinos are on this map, due to their being so much water.

Anyway, The Ruins aren't for anything in particular, so feel free to choose one (or more) as a base. I think I read at some point that some of them have the same structure Degradation as building inside Caves does, but I'm unsure, if I'm perfectly honest. Worth a little research.

I'm surprised the ping is that high, but I guess it's quite a distance to travel. When connecting from home my ping to the server reports as 14 while in game, although the server browser suggests 60.

Anyway, Glad you are enjoying your time on the server I messaged you on Steam about your buddy. We'll get that sorted sooner rather than later.

I think the server browser usually reports a ping of over 200 for me but the in game menu once connected is around 60 (which seems really quick since I am on USA West coast).

I've heard the ruins have the 6x structure damage multiplier like caves do, but since there is not really any PvP it shouldn't matter.

I noticed on the spreadsheet that you have not done anything with the mating multipliers yet. I have not personally experimented with the system but since it seems we mostly play solo on this server, I would recommend giving the single player multipliers for this system a try. I can post them later when I am not on my phone if you need them. What would everyone else think about that?

Edit: the one thing I didn't check to see what the phone auto correct mangled. I meant to say mating modifiers.

My main problem is getting enough poop to keep my 4 plot garden going and trying to stay hydrated and fed.

I didn't know there was a difference between single player and multiplayer settings? Or are you talking about recommended settings?

You need to build an Egg & Poop Collector, which will grab eggs and poop from all around your location

As for the multipliers, which 'main' multipliers are you talking about?

Sorry about that, I am usually pretty fastidious about double checking things on my phone but missed that typo. I have edited my post to fix it.

I kind of figured you meant the mating/hatching/imprinting multipliers. It took us a while to figure those out. We lost many a baby due to the stupid imprinting thing.

Oh! Yeah, that makes much more sense

None of us really got to the mating part, which is why they're still default. I welcome suggestions for rates, though. I've never tried to mate Dino together, so a brief explanation of suggested rates would also be appreciated.

Back in patch 259 they added an option called "Single Player Settings" that is enabled by default for single player and non-dedicated servers (so for servers where they are not online all the time and for people who have limited time to invest in the game). It has changes for several of the time consuming aspects of the game, but the largest changes are to the mating and baby growth speeds. The details can be found at this forum post by a dev. But the mating multiplier changes that are set for "single player" are:

MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.125000
EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=10.000000
BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=36.799000
BabyCuddleIntervalMultiplier=0.167000

I figured these would be a good baseline to work off of, and we could tweak them up or down as people saw fit after experimenting with the system at these numbers.

Omni, I think I read that any admin can invite others to the tribe but you can set admin powers so that they can't do anything else basically. I think you can change members status via the tribe manager (I think "L" or "B" to get into that).

Just about to jump on and have a look Will let you know.

Edit: Thats you an admin now. I doubt there's much that could be broken, but would appreciate if it was just restricted to Tribe invites

Thanks Omni. I will not abuse my power.

Now what was that command to kill all of a certain type of dinosaur?

/DestroyAll Ichthyornis_Character_BP_C

Tempting but just kidding!

xD

Easy there, you're just a Tribe Admin, not a server admin

Speaking of server admin, Malkroth brought up something yesterday that I can't remember if it is in the server admin or if it's a mod. We are having obstruction issues the structures+ stuff with fence supports. We are able build our walls out and snap them straight but then when the terrain starts to intersect we get an obstruction. So we have a our straight walls using the fence supports but can't snap the wall below to cover those gaps in the bottom when going up and down hills. See about 2:45 in this vid: Ark S+ Tips & Tricks || Fence Foundations & Fence Supports || TimmyCarbine

I just checked the mod page on steam and it says no collision was removed from the mod and if you want it you need to add it to the game.in. I can't copy and paste from my phone (or at least have no idea how to from the steam page).

Yes, there is a no collision setting in game now, which does the same as was in S+.

So I had a terrible weekend of play and need to tame a mosasaur to replace one that I got killed (SORRY OMNI!).

Anyone interested in helping to build this trap? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfwE...

Sorry, the guy is bit of annoying but it's not too bad.

Was it the high level one or the lower? I'm not hugely fussed, but interested in what happened

There's already an underwater trap in one of the under sea land bubble things. I'm on vacation now, so can't get coords myself, but I can ask the guy that built it and pass it on.

It was the higher level one.

It all started with me needing oil as we've built up to the point we need a generator. So doing some research I found that just outside our base between lava island and half burnt island, there is a crevice in the ocean and down deep is a ton of oil nodes. So I donned my scuba gear and flippers and took my raft out to harvest it. I felt pretty secure without taking any water creatures as my oxygen is pumped to 300. So I'm swimming around and dodging around angler fish (killing some with crossbow for gel) and have about 500+ oil on me when a plesio comes out of nowhere (I assumed it must have spawned nearby and swam over as I scouted in a pretty far circle before harvesting) and eats my face. So I spawned back, grabbed another tank and flippers and grabbed my ptera and flew back out to the raft to retrieve my stuff. Well, now another plesio has spawned and they are circling my body and about 10 more anglers spawned so I couldn't even get close to my stuff. I spent about 10 minutes trying to pull them away and then swim back around to get my stuff (this is where I should have had an itchy). I should have just let it rott and would have just lost mastercraft tank, flippers, goggles, pick, and crossbow but got frustrated and figured the Mosasaur would easily tear them to pieces. Well, he did indeed make quick work of them so I dismounted and went to retrieve my bag. Well, it was bugged (stuck halfway in a rock) so I couldn't access it (Mal informed me that we have a mod with corpse finder stone that will allow me to summon my stuff which I didn't know so hard lesson learned). I know that this happens and stuff will rubber band around falling in ocean so I swam around trying to find an access point. In doing this, another damned plesio came and attacked, Mosa came to rescue, and in doing so hit some jellyfish (those are new and bad mofos!). So mosa and I got chain stunned to death. It took a while for the mosa to die and I kept trying to swim down and kill the jellies with a crossbow but didn't have another tank or flippers so kept having to swim up and they eventually killed him. He was stunned for like 10-15 minutes. It's one of the most frustrating times I've ever had in this game.

TLDR - got killed in ocean by plesio, became angry and wanted to kill everything so grabbed mosa, mosa and I got tangled in jellyfish and received shock therapy to our deaths.

I promise I will return you something better though!

So I'm having a problem building my taming raft. I have the foundations sunk and ready to extend them out. I using the thatch ceiling on the edge of the foundation on raft and and trying to place a foundation under it but it won't allow me to do that. It says it is obstructed. I was reading and one thing I did find is in the server settings this must be set to true.

OverrideStructurePlatformPrevention=True.

I was looking at the two rafts already made and their foundations are extanded so maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Make sure you're much farther from shore than you think you need to be. A lot of that building technique is stretching the building limits already, so it can be fiddly.

Thanks for adding me Omni. I'm a level 21 already but damn just about every creature on the west Island is level 150 or higher. I can't knock anything out, but just leveled up to get tranq arrows. Whew.

Yeah, the eastern areas tend to be safer, but really any area is fine once you get set up.

If this Ark server is still up and running I'd like to join. All my servers are dead and gone so I took a little break. Now I'm ready to get back to shooting animals in the face to make them my friend. I can send a steam friend request to you Omni.

Sure thing. There should be a link to a spreadsheet with details on the last page or two. I'm still on vacation, so have slightly less Steam access than normal, but we can hopefully sort that out today or tomorrow. If not, I'll be back home on Tuesday.

On a side note, is there anyone actively playing that isn't already in the tribe?

There's now an Ark Season Pass available, which currently only includes Scorched Earth, but will also give access to upcoming expansions ARK: Aberration (coming October 2017) and a third expansion coming Spring 2018.
