Time to start the Winter Sale Thread, because the Steam Summer Sale 2015 is Over!

Hey man, sometimes I take a break from Elite to avoid burnout.

Elite is the #1 reason why I only bought 2 or 3 things all sale.

"Hrm... Watch_Dogs finally on a 'decent' sale...but I'm still hooked Elite and it'll be cheaper in the Winter sale"

At least the game I gifted everyone is short, has achievements, and even trading cards. Just what you need for a quick diversion Actually, I should talk - I own WAY too many games and I don't play them enough myself.

But can I play it while also playing Elite?

Bonus Eruptus has shocked my wife with his gift of The Walking Dead Season 2 or as I like to call it The Road 2.

She walked by while I was playing Clementine, ie a survivor of The Long Walk, and she commented on how dark the tone was.

Thanks Bonus Eruptus! I'll never look at childhood things the same ever again! Now, I need to call an adult. Preferably a therapist.

This is serious business! I am trying to get through a few of my sale games before I launch myself back into Elite. I've only really had a little taste of Elite (just got my Cobra) but enough to know addiction is right around the corner.

I too have been doing this very thing. Yesterday I had to force myself NOT to play Elite so I could try some of my Steam Sale games. Like, literally take my hands away from the USB cords that would plug in the joystick, throttle, pedals and head tracker. It's a sickness, I tell you.

Dixie Flatline surprised me with the gift of Grim Fandango on Monday. It was a very nice surprise, especially since I was at a funeral when he gifted it. Thanks Dixie!

Meanwhile, I've been slowly whittling my way back to populated space to do another dump of exploration data for the current CG... so of course I logged in last night.

Ouch -- my condolences. I strive for appropriate gifts, but that was a little more on-the-nose than I meant it to be. Nonetheless, enjoy the game!

So, I did something I have never done before, and also couldn't....
with exception of Borderlands Pre Sequel, I asked and gotten refund of
every other game.
Great games for great prices really...but, I just don't have
time to play them yet and will just be sitting on my pile.
Playing lots of Borderlands and have Fallout4 pre ordered.
That will do it for now and working on my back log.

Wait, you just pulled a Ctrl-Z on the Summer Sale?

Curious how many you returned as a threshold reference point of "not abusing the sysytem". I assume you weren't flagged for abuse.

Also-- finally a full-fledged Executive! Only took 4 years.

I think the return policy or the sale structures are going to have to change, I imagine they had a ton of returns of people who bought something only to see it go on flash sale and return to rebuy it cheaper for example.

That'd be it working as intended though.

We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.

Perhaps, but the money is still going in Valve's pocket at the end of the day, so what incentive do they have to change? Increased workload maybe?

It sounds like good business practice and pro consumer. Same when you buy something in a store and it's on sale within a few weeks. Often you get the discount as well.
Maybe Valve should have a button to claim the difference within a certain time frame or just automatically refund. Who knows

Valve has taken a serious customer satisfaction hit in recent years, due to outright horrendous customer support issues. They have publicly recognized their shortcomings, but they have a long way to go to regain some peoples' trust. This program is a big step in the right direction, especially if it continues going smoothly.

I suspect they are hoping any negative financial impact from the refunds will be repaid by the massive benefits of strong customer loyalty.

I'm pulling a similar trick, but on a smaller scale: finally cracked open a few games from the sale, realized what a mistake it was to get them. Arena FPSes with small player bases and severe skill imbalances. One had a single-player mode which was kinda fun, but not fun enough on its own. Another was in Early Access. So I've put in refund requests. We'll see. I think the window for refunds is starting to close, especially for the beginning of the sale.

Note to self: NO. MORE. MULTIPLAYER GAMES. Unless there's some way to validate the size of the player base/activity. Hell, I have Awesomenauts and Chivalry and barely touch them.

I owe a debt of gratitude to our very own doubtingthomas396 for the gift of Reus. I do not presently have the Steam app for Android (I must remedy that) and have not been on the computer (so no logging in to Steam or playing of any PC games) for a couple of weeks, maybe even a month, thus I failed to see this awesome surprise.

Apologies for the delayed response! Thank you, friend. Unexpected awesome is the best kind!

So...out of the 35 games of Defy Gravity Extended I gave out, only two haven't been claimed - but I don't know to whom It just lists some ID #s - does anyone know how to figure out who belongs to those numbers?

I think you can browse to the steam profile via ID #? Same was as people who haven't created a named 'shortcut' to their steam profile just get a numerical string URL.

I could be completely wrong.

Nah, they have different formats. You can access them via the Steam API, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get access to that when I think about it.

I mainly just went through my emails and looked at who I sent particular games to and sent out reminders, but I didn't send out 35 copies of Defy Gravity.

Cragmyre, if you want to post the ID #s, I can see what I can do.

Thanks Bonus,

I could probably have worked with the API myself...but if you are volunteering

The two numbers are 40954889 and 50907418

If you find out who they are, just PM me their nicks - I don't want them to feel they need to accept the gifts, I just want to be able to pass them on if possible.

I put in a refund request just now for Bound By Flame. I'm outside the two week window, but I'm under 2 hours played, so hopefully I'll get that money back. I went on-call right at the end of the sale, and we had a few storms hit which had me working some really long hours, so I just never got around to it.

Under the reason, I put "The gameplay is OK, but the script/dialog/acting are so horrible that I can't bring myself to even load this game up." So far it's the only buyer's remorse I've had, everything else felt like it was worth what I spent on them.

Crap, unfortunately, the <persona>id_number</persona> aren't anything that shows up in any of the API calls I can make. Best I can do is scan your friends list, scan the games they have, and give you a list of whoever's redeemed it, but that won't help if they've passed it on to someone else.

No worries Bonus, thanks for looking.

I'll let them sit in my inventory for a bit - not like it takes up any space

Welp, looks like I'm stuck with Bound By Flame, which essentially should be lit on fire. My refund was denied, but I was outside the two weeks so I'm not arguing it... it was a longshot. Maybe I'll trog through the game just to see how absolutely horrendous it is.
