Assassin's Creed: Syndicate 1886-All

I always liked the idea behind the AC multiplayer but they took it in the wrong direction.

I suddenly want that hat.

"Let's wake up these working class sots to the machine that controls their lives....by stabbing them in the neck!"

Face. Always the face.

Neck is for losers.

Having sunk a few hours into Wolfpack with random folks, I can only see the appeal with friends.

Stab is in the back. Anywhere else risks them stabbing you back. Top of the head as you fall on them is also acceptable. Minimize risk of being stabbed back, always.

I just want to know how many hours I will need to invest into this game before they actually let me play the game. Because the last one I played, 3, was absolutely ridiculous. I don't play AC games to NOT play as an assassin.

Yah, that was egregious. I think it was like 8 hours in before you finally got to play as the much touted Connor.

I'm still a bit bummed they didn't go for a drastically different setting like Black Flag. London looks great but it's not a million miles away from Paris, at least in the locations it shows in them videos.

I'm gonna wait for reviews for this Syndicate, I always like the idea of AC games but the only one that has ever lived up to its potential is Black Flag. I thought Unity looked unbelievable but it wasn't compelling with the story or characters at all, never mind the mountain of chests tied to stupid apps that you couldn't open.

The two interesting factors I took away from the gameplay video are the batman influenced grappling hook & faster paced hand to hand combat. One of the most gratifying experiences of AC games (for me at least) is climbing the detailed buildings with all the little nooks & crannies to grab hold of. With the grappling hook are we bypassing that cool moment to moment gameplay? I think back to Saints Row 4 & how it was pointless driving a vehicle because of the superpowers that meant you could run faster than cars, fly & jump massive heights.

Time will tell on this one, they need to get this series back on track after the lukewarm reception of Unity.

These have to be the least convincing Victorians ever:

I want to see the sources Ubisoft is using for the costumes. They've been really good at that kind of stuff in the past games, I'd love to see what how they got to that.

I mean, at this point, who knows. They might just be German, and we all know how much the Germans love that leather.

I would bet you that all of that stuff exists, but not worn in that way or in those combinations.

I love the look of the setting but everything else looks so boring. Even unity had a few animations I found interesting looking but everything about this seems like a step back.

After watching those preview videos, I am totally not interested in this game. They've turned Assassin's Creed into a brawler. Assassin's Creed doesn't need faster-paced combat. The stealth mode in the middle of a wide open street in broad daylilght looks ridiculous. And every time I've ever driven a carriage in an Assassin's Creed game, it has sucked mightily.

The city doesn't look right to me, either, though I'm no expert. Broad streets everywhere, samey buildings. I realize it's pre-alpha, but I don't look at that city and say to myself "yeah, I want to explore that."

It just looks bad. The story premise is flimsy, too.

Everything about this game turns me off. Unless it gets stellar reviews, I'll be taking a pass on this one.

Wait, I'm confused, so do you like what you've seen or not?

Over/under on the carriage being upgraded to fire rockets?

It looks like Steampunk Batman. Complete with Utility Gauntlet.

I have to say, they make great commercial CG shorts.
This, for example, looks so awesome.

Pre-order DLC? Pre-order DLC.

I would like a Gangs of New York DLC please.

Hell, give me a Steampunk Batman!

sh*t. I just watched the trailer. Oh man, how am I going to *not* buy this day one! IT LOOKS AWESOME.

You're welcome.

I actually have the comic that it's based off of. Pencils by Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame and forward written by Robert Bloch, who even wrote a Star Trek episode involving Jack the Ripper.

It baffles people, but I'm one of the few that genuinely enjoyed the modern day setting elements. Since, as I've gathered, Ubisoft has rendered that part pretty vestigial, I can't muster much excitement for these any more.

I actually enjoyed them too. I really enjoyed Desmond's story.

Now I know what it feels like when doves cry!

I'm with you guys, I'm with you.

I think the tone of the Assassin's Creed games went in the opposite direction I wanted them to. I loved the historical, almost subdued feeling of the original - as well as the contrasting conspiracy storyline in the modern day - and while I liked the more bombastic direction AC2 and Brotherhood took in the moment, I wish they'd pulled back from that tangent rather than embracing it. The series isn't for me any more, and that's okay, not everything is for everyone.

I do think the annual sequels aren't doing the series any favours either. It's hard to be excited about any individual entry in a series when they're so frequent.

Bro hugs?

Redwing, I want to be all mature and say the same thing that the game has taken a different direction and it's not for me any more, but I also want to stand on top of a large building and shout at anyone who thinks of pre-ordering this after Unity.

You and me both. We established this today.

Guess I'm out then!

More seriously, though, I agree with BadKen and Redwing. I think the AC franchise may have left behind. And they had a golden opportunity to reverse the gender gap, with a 75% Evie and 25% Jacob ratio. But I guess the flops that were AC: China and AC: Liberation is enough to justify that people don't want to play as female characters (not to mention that they're just so hard to animate... *sigh*). Never mind that these games were pretty different from the main franchise. AC: China doesn't even have the same gameplay from the videos I've seen.

Ugh, sorry, I'm rambling, but I'm just very underwhelmed.
