NFL 2015: Offseason: DeflateGate

Well, good thing it's a holiday so I don't feel super guilty about blowing hours reading through the Draw Play's archives.

That song was perfect.

Tom Brady Beats NFL In 'Deflategate' Case, Suspension Nullified: Report

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman has decided to nullify the four-game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback over his supposed role in the "Deflategate" scandal.

"Based upon the foregoing and applicable legal authorities, the Court hereby denies the Management Council's motion to confirm the Award and grants the Players Association's motion to vacate the Award, thereby vacating the four-game suspension of Tom Brady, effective immediately," Berman wrote in his conclusion.

Berman had previously pushed for a settlement, calling it a "rational and logical option" as he saw pros and cons to both sides' arguments. After the NFL and its players union failed to do so during last-minute negotiations, the judge said he would deliver a ruling this week.

Berman as he believes the NFL mishandled the situation, but that Brady was at least somewhat aware of a deliberate attempt to deflate the team's footballs.

Oh sure, wait until after the FF drafts are done.

Ray Rice makes an admittedly very bad decision while drunk and getting harassed by his fiancee and will likely never play again despite fully cooperating with an investigation.

Brady obstructed his investigation at every possible turn and has likely been cheating in THIS particular fashion for 7 years and gets no punishment.

Why, exactly, should anyone cooperate with an investigation again?

To me, this is like when a criminal gets off due to gross violations of procedure by the police or prosecution.

This issue ceased to be about deflated balls some time ago, and turned into the issue of the league office's ad-hoc rules and overstepping boundaries.

In that regard, I am happy to see them lose outright. They have operated far too long as arbitrary rulers, bound to no guidelines save the ones they make up on the spot. I wish them however many more embarrassing losses it takes to figure out that their one-sided Calvinball approach should not and will not be tolerated.

Everything here. It's the O.J. trial; regardless of the facts, the basic investigation was so bungled the facts never mattered.

Anything that stomps down Goodell's completely arbitrary power is good for me.

Ray Rice is a 30 year old RB who had been in decline, who would very possibly only have had another year or two. He became utterly toxic because it was (A) domestic violence and (B) filmed, but it's like Chris Kluwe getting dumped as the Vikings punter. Sure, there are off-the-field reasons why he's not employed, but, in the NFL, somebody younger and cheaper is always out there. Rice also benefited from a court ruling slapping down Goodell's extending of his suspension to a full year, so the Rice situation from a legal perspective is far more like Brady's than the opposite of it.

How many millions was paid the the "independent" council who took like 9 months to render a decision in the investigation?

Wells was "independent" in the same way a bunch of 30 year old millennials who still live at home but pay for their own Netflix with their part-time retail job are "independent".

All this means is that a fan base that was already insufferable is now even more so.

If the NFL/Goodell had gone for the tampering with equipment angle with those penalties, this would have been resolved months ago. Instead they tried for the knock out. And missed.

Say Hi To The Bad Guy

The same folks crying the same tears I see. Glad I paid a visit.

Overall this is good that the NFL got a reality check. It can't just do what it wants. Maybe this is the first step for things changing overall.

And yeah Brady deflated some balls. cry me a river. This ruling isn't saying he didn't. Its saying Goodell overstepped his bounds and someone had to step in to remind him/them that its simply not the way these things work.

Moving on to what should be an interesting season. I am routing for Tebow to play well tonight. I want him to pick up the backup slot. No way would Tim would deflate any balls, Jesus would hate that

Huh? Was he even suspended for the balls? I thought the suspension was because he refused to cooperate with the investigation and destroyed his phone to try to eliminate evidence?

Lol same old guru. Hope you never change buddy

The worst part of this ruling is that Brady will be on the field when Jacksonville comes to Foxboro in week 3.

Because even that little stroke of luck had to be denied.

So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because Good(ell) is dumb.

Oh, so the clown circus is over?

Goodell is still comish? and he managed to clown boat it up that the Patriots skate from this because he's a clown?

Wonderful. Pass the puke bucket.

I'm still so perplexed as to how he's 'running' the league. I'd get it if he was making some pittance of a salary to just act as the puppet lightning rod for the owners. But no he makes bank.

Where can I sign up to make a fraction of what he makes? I wear a suit well and if need be I can just drink all day and act 200x the moron.

The drama in this is crazy. The NFL was dumb. The NFL was stomped. We move on.

Regardless of whether or not they were dumb, Goodell was completely within his authority under the CBA to act in the manner he did. Brady, however, went outside the CBA by suing the league and Goodell; non-injury grievences(which this falls under) are required by the CBA to be resolved through an arbitration process.

In short, Brady completely and utterly f*cked the CBA through his jackassery here. Instead of cooperating and playing nice, he decided to be a colossal prick and flip the bird at the entirety of proceedings and agreements that allow him to play in the first place.

At this point, everyone's been stupid. The league dragging it out was moronic. Brady intentionally stonewalling was moronic. The Judge ruling against the league, despite there being *nothing* in the CBA to support that was moronic. So yes, the drama has been stupid beyond all mortal ken. But despite that, absolutely everything the league has done has been within the confines of the CBA. Everything Brady has done has not been. And for that alone, he shouldn't be taking the field any time soon.
