Or Rambo, for that matter.
What in the blue blazes do they think 20 odd civilians can do against even a battalion of soldiers?
Even here on GWJ, there have been some folks who have what I would consider a dangerously-overestimated view of their own abilities. (We had a thread about the second amendment and insurrection, which was in part driven by the conversation in the wake of this post.
Texas Gov. Abbott announced his plan for monitoring Jade Helm 15 within the state. He's mobilized "four or five" members of the Texas State Guard and tasked them with keeping all Texans safe from federal tyranny.
The Texas State Guard shouldn't be confused with the Texas National Guard. It is a state militia organized primarily to assist state and local authorities in times of state emergencies, primarily natural disasters. It's 2,000 members train a handful of times a year and for their brave service are rewarded with free state licenses to hunt, fish, and carry a concealed handgun (it *is* Texas, after all).
The Texas State Guard will "give an update once a day to Abbott’s office that includes a look back at the preceding 24 hours of the exercise and a projection 72 hours ahead, according to Abbott’s office."
So that begs the question of how just four or five Texas State Guard troopers are going to keep tabs on the military's activities throughout the state. And that's the greatest part of all of this.
The Texas State Guard isn't actually going to put anyone in the field to monitor the military training exercises. They're going to stay put at the State Guard headquarters at Camp Mabry in Austin. A military liaison will tell the State Guard what happened during the exercises.
So what started with Gov. Abbott saying he'd keep a steely eye on the military to make sure that they didn't trample any Texan's civil liberties has ended with a complete farce of a situation where the monitors won't leave their base and will be told about everything that happened by the very people their governor said they didn't trust.
And all that rank hypocrisy and pandering to crazies is going to cost Texas taxpayers is the salary of four or five State Guardsman for the length of the training exercise.
That's a small price to pay for FREEDOM!!111!!1

Hell, 20 odd civilians couldn't even touch 5 soldiers in an MRAP.

!
Did anyone ever Photoshop a picture of the Wolverines popping out of the sunroof of a VM Bug?
I checked out the CJH site briefly and stopped after the vehicle ID section. It was a minimum of 10 years old and woefully incomplete. A simple google search or visit to Global Defense would have produced tons of publically available intel. Half-assed paranoia is the worst.
Regarding the Texas State Guard stuff, I bet the governer asked or tried to activate the Texas National Guard and his state commanding general told him why they wouldn't be able to. IE: asking for federal dollars to actively resist the federal government isn't going to go over well.
Remember Pete Lanteri? The former Marine organizing Counter Jade Helm who raged against the "nut-jobs" his group attracted?
Thousands, man, thousands.
It's a good thing that guy weeded out the crazies so that this whole monitoring thing could proceed in a calm and rational manner.
I love that second to last comment. Folks who have decided the government is coming to enact martial law and only free, REAL AMERICANS care is going to complain about how other people are causing a division in this country. A+, 10/10, etc.

Note the Roman numeral III after his name. It's reference to The Three Percenters.
The Three Percenters, formed in late 2008, are a loosely organized movement centered around an obscure, and not particularly accurate, Revolutionary War "statistic" that claimed that only 3% of the American population during the Revolutionary War participated as combatants in the war. The group asserts that they are a modern counterpart to that mythical 3% of American Revolutionary-era patriots and also represent the three percent of the population of American gun owners "who will not disarm."

...so with thousands of NRA rallies, they still believe only some tiny minority isn't going to foam at the mouth if someone tries to touch their guns without their permission?
Like... there's delusional, and then there's just f***ing stupid.

Are we sure he's not just the third John Root in his family? I mean, he probably is part of the Oath Keepers too, so it could be both.
If these conscientious citizens are just there to monitor the goings on of the US Military, who are they going to report this to that they feel could stop this if they decide that the umm... federal government is trying to take over one of the states in the union? I mean when the US decides to invade the US, or overthrow the governor of Texas or whatever it is they think they're doing... okay, my brain hurts now.
...Travolta and Slater?
Turns out the two dumb dudes that shot at Camp Shelby yesterday was only one dumb dude. Who did the same exact thing this morning.
This time, however, he was arrested.
I'm going to guess that because the guy was white there isn't going to be hordes of gun-toting, Confederate flag flying men patrolling the entrance to Camp Shelby tomorrow to "keep our boys safe."
Someone's going to have to explain why it was OK to make these Tar Heel terrorists wait more than three days for their bang-bangs, but it was deemed super important to make sure the cackalacky to the south--who had a criminal record--didn't have wait beyond three days before he could get the gun he used to murder nine people.
How about no one gets a gun until everyone is absolutely sure they're not a criminal, crazy, or otherwise ill suited to owning something that can kill lots of people really easily?
I can already tell you the NRA argument to that. "Who will be the one deciding who can have guns? The government? What if they decide no one can be trusted with guns? What will their criteria be? This is just another backdoor attempt to ban civilian ownership of firearms!"
This feels like it would be a simple problem to solve. Let the NRA be the arbiter of all gun approvals, then hold its board criminally responsible for all gun crimes.
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is locking up the gun enthusiasts who approved his gun sale.

That is a fantastic idea...that would never, ever, happen.
I made the mistake of reading the comments. Why did I do that?
"I looked into the trap, Ray!"

Looks like Jade Helm has concluded. Texas is successfully annexed.
Now onto forcing all Christians into gay marriages.
It's not so bad, really. Even the death camps have Taco Tuesdays.
Things I miss about Texas: decent tacos.
Things I don't miss about Texas: paranoid racism.
