Distant Worlds Concert... IN PITTSBURGH

So my roommate and I will be heading up to Pittsburgh the first weekend of August for Distant Worlds, the concert filled with Final Fantasy music galore. We'll be joined by his girlfriend and a pal of mine from College.

The concert is Saturday, August 1st at 8pm.

My friends and I will be arriving in the Pittsburgh area Friday night, but Saturday is when we expect to be social. So I wanted to see if anyone wanted to hold a bit of a pre-concert Slap and Tickle? I know Beeporama and SuperDave are located in Pittsburgh, but anyone else?

Is this your first time going?

It will be, yes. I saw Video Games Live but.this seems to take itself a bit.more.seriously.

You and your friends are definitely in for a treat I haven't been to VGL yet, but Distant Worlds is a good show although I don't think it takes itself that much more seriously once you're in the venue.

Obviously, make sure to bring your 3DS too if you still care about StreetPasses.

It's very confusing that they have a concert involving music from a computer game, but name the concert after a completely unrelated computer game.

If you look at when the concert first started touring, the computer game named itself after the concert.

The game released in 2010, but they first started doing tours for Distant Worlds in 2007.

The name of the concert series is derived from the name of a track in Final Fantasy XI. Much like how the name of the previous concert series, Dear Friends, was derived from the name of a track in Final Fantasy V.

And Distant Worlds the game is clearly based on the refrain from the song in FFV where the synth swells to 88 khz and the player in real life is flung far into space where a giant kaltor eats their soul. That's what they were going for with the game.

Found this thread while looking for GWJers in the Pittsburgh area. If you are still going to be in town this weekend, you may want to check out the ReplayFX event happening at the Convention Center. Video games, pinball, competitions, cosplay, etc.

ReplayFX

My local game group has a booth at Replay. Hearing rave reviews for the event so far,/wish I cohld have gone.

What's the name of your group? I'm heading down later this afternoon.

Cleveland Game Devs. We have a partnership with Multivarious Games and the Central Ohio Gamedev Group (COGG) and are sharing a booth together. Justin and Jarryd should be demoing our game jam games and promoting the group. Mike should be showing off his car combat game or an Oculus Rift project he has. Have fun!
