Babylon 5 feature film!

This news just caught my eye: J. Michael Straczynski Announces ‘Babylon 5′ Feature Film Reboot, Eyes 2016 Production Start

Quote shows not everything is that solid concerning WB.
But, the feature movie will happen either way. Hopefully a new series in tow.

The hope is that Warner Bros, who produced the Babylon 5 television series, would step up and green-light a “big budget” feature film once the script has been completed. But owing to the nature of the deal that Straczysnki inked with the studio to produce Babylon 5 in the early 1990s, he, rather than Warner Bros, owns the feature film rights to the show. Should Warner Bros. choose not to greenlight a B5 movie, Straczynski would still proceed with the feature, which would then be funded and produced through his Studio JMS banner on a budget of $80 – $100 million.

Time to rewatch the original series again!

I would watch it. B5 had it's place, but it started getting really bad towards the end.

I would totally watch a version of this that doesn't use an Amiga for it's CGI and where the sets don't actually wobble when people walk past them!

It's a shame that some of the old cast isn't around anymore to take on roles though

Season 5? What...? Never heard of it!

There were a few good parts to season 5. The problem was that renewal was looking unlikely, so he compressed most of the important story into season 4, which then left season 5 full of filler.

I'm not sure how a reboot as a movie would fare. I'd be happy with a reboot of the show, with the slow bits of the first and fifth seasons removed. Have it on BBC America or something. Get Cummerbund Bumblesnatch to play G'Kar.

Not sure how they would handle that in a reboot since JMS stated no one else would ever play that role (link)

Yeah, for a long time, I used to think no one else would ever be able to play that role. But I think Bandicoot Cabbagepatch could do it justice.

Whenever I see this, I know it should be played out, but I cannot help but give a

As G'kar? Way better in Londo's role. Hell, he'd make a good Morden. Bendystraw Crinklefries making that obviously-too-sincere friendly face and asking "What do you want?" I'd be sold.

Let's get Michael Dorn as G'kar.

Though I'd be more concerned who would play Delenn. Her ability to deliver a lot of the philosophical and moral points of the show without coming off as too self-righteous or preachy really anchored a lot of the good parts.

I know just the person for the job...

Tatiana Maslany for Ivanova.

Yeah, I could have done without season 5. In fact, just leave the telepaths out completely.

Awesome news, but reboot? ah who cares, make it now!

That was f*cking sweet.

I'm posting this as a blatant grab at the opportunity to say Bantha-dork Corellian-hatch. Make of it what you will.

I'm confused why people keep mistyping Benedict Cumberbatch. Benedict is a fairly common name in the UK that just fell out of favor in the states because of Benedict Arnold and Cumberbatch is pretty easy since it's spelled like it sounds.

Also, we'll see how this goes. I'm not convinced JMH can limit himself enough to make a good single movie script.

I'm still pissed about what they did to the effects shots in the DVD release. They shot the live-action stuff in widescreen HD because they knew it was coming, but the computer effects were rendered to the bare minimum necessary for SD broadcast. Go go gadget 1990's computing power. Anyhoo, the plan was to re-render the digital bits in HD when the time came, but at some point they lost all of the source files.

So for the DVD release they took the original SD shots and zoomed in to make them widescreen.

It's not that the computer effects have aged badly; they've been mangled.

Already doing along with a podcast.

Spoiler:

Sinclair is Valen!

Was this the first mass media use of "The All Story"?

Depends, what is that?

An idea jokingly brought up by Giant Bomb, since many games revolved around an ancient evil returning where the player is the savior (Halo, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls IV, etc.), but then I remembered The Lord of the Rings.

Because it's "lol oh em gee hi-larious", right? Same reason everyone develops a bizarre inability to write M. Night Shyamalan's name correctly.

Yes!

I can say I recently combed through youtube and watched a bunch of space battle scenes from the show. Like you do.

I kind of wish that mod for X3 got finished because the graphics in X3 are on par with the show.

I've never met one.

0.016% of male babies in 2013 were named Benedict, which makes it the 350th most common boy's name that year.

And G'Kar. And Londo. And Garibaldi. And Delen. She's got the range.

My first instinct is to retell the story, but I can't imagine it without G'kar and Londo played by those exact actors. I'd love for Straczynski to take some risks and come up with something new and not related to the Shadow Wars.

Man, I miss Delen too! Just thinking about this makes me want to watch the show again.

Well I know of Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Jacka, author of the Alex Verus series of novels, so I presumed from that it was somewhat common ~30 years ago. Apparently it's not that popular but it doesn't seem too uncommon all told. Certainly not enough to continually misspell it, I mean I didn't even have to use spell check to know how to spell Benedict, though the eggs may have something to do with that.

It's not the Benedict part of the name that makes it funny (although it is a mildly amusing name for it's oldey-timey-ness, like Cornelius), it's the Cumberbatch, as well as the juxtaposition of the two. It has a rhythm to it that lends itself wonderfully to parody. Like Englebert Humperdink.

*shrug* I just don't see it.

Well my mind is blown! Before my love of firefly there was babylon 5. Never got into the spin offs though. It just won't be the same without G'kar. Still I'm excited to see what comes of it.

It's too bad the actress left the show just as Talia Winters stopped sounding like she was reading lines from a cue card badly.
