Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Square-Enix is currently doing an "interactive reveal" for a new game from one of its Eidos studios. It's streaming on Twitch at http://www.twitch.tv/cantkillprogress. This is somewhat widely anticipated to be related in some way to Deus Ex.

The first reveal has been this video on Instagram.

mentioned it in the Deus Ex thread, that's how sure I am that this is going to be DX related

Except it's blue and black instead of gold and...wait. No. No let's not go there.

So far I'm watching a guy sleep, say "f*ck", and yell that this is illegal. It's like a weekend outside the DMV.

Ah, it's a Conservative Party simulator for the Occulus Rift. This must be what the NHS looks like through their eyes. Remarkable.

Oh, so like the original?

As long as they're not pulling the same platform exclusivity thing like Rise of the Tomb Raider I'm hyped.

You can't kill progress, but you can apparently kill interest by having nothing happen for four hours at a stretch. Maybe they're targeting the tedium simulator markets. Illegally Detained Migrant Worker Simulator 2015.

Sci-fi version of Old Boy? Feel what it's like to be imprisoned for 15 years...in real-time!

And that's just act 1...

So it's a Square-Enix countdown but in real time with a Twitch stream attached?

Another sign that it's probably DX related - looks an awful lot like one of the holding cells in the FEMA camp from DX:HR.

Also pretty sure David Sarif said something along the lines of "you can't kill progress" at least once during the game.

But yeah...I think I'll wait for the ultimate reveal. Whenever that happens.

I would frankly be surprised if it isn't related to Deus Ex. They're somewhat overdue for an announcement given how far along the game supposedly is, and E3 is right around the corner. And Square-Enix doesn't have many other properties that lend themselves quite so well to totalitarian dictatorships and information hacking.

But given their history, I expect this to all conclude in a couple days with little information about what it actually is and a countdown to E3.

There's also been talk of a DX movie for a while. Could be related although I think there was also some noise last year about a DX sequel in the works when Eidos Montreal lobbed some screenshots of test environment renders onto the web which looked fairly DX-ish.

Looking more at the interface and fonts used, this is Deus Ex or a really mean fake-out.

Deus Ex free-to-play mobile collectible card game?

Deus Ex... but all augmentations can only be obtained through real-money transactions...

Next vote/teaser is in 18 hours.

I've got to admit that watching someone be incarcerated without due process, interrogated, tortured, and threatened, even if they're a terrible actor in an online ad, has made me pretty uncomfortable. It's edgy in a bad way.

forgot about this...

*checks feed to see what looks like (but I assume isn't) the prisoner hunched behind a metal chair with his back to the cameras doing something that...well....is probably going to be captured out of context in a variety of gifs* 0_0

I hate marketing.

How hard up is this guy for cash that he'd sign on to something like this?

Deus Ex free-to-play mobile collectible card game?

Surprise! It's Kane & Lynch 3!

The best part of this, for me, is going to be when someone determines all the "you choose what happens next" turns out to be BS and fully orchestrated ahead of time. Or at best there's a few paths that eventually lead to the same place, but we're given the feeling of agency.

It's meta commentary on gaming!

After the general meh-ness of DE:HR, I'd actually be up for that.

It's Hideo Kojima's next game after MGS5.

Frog Fractions 2. Calling it now.

Someone just posted a bunch of game art on NeoGaf. I don't really understand where it came from, or if it's even real, but it looks cool!

That would be Deus Ex.

They also posted a translation:

Square Enix has announced the continuation of the famous cyberpunk series Deus Ex. The new part was subtitled Mankind Divided, it will tell us about how the future society was divided into castes augmented and ordinary people. In the middle of the action will be our old friend Adam Jensen - the protagonist of the game.

As in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the events unfold in different parts of the world. For example, in Prague, Czech Republic, Jensen will have to sort things out with Victor Marchenko - an officer in the so-called Coalition of Human augmented (Augmented Rights Coalition).

The choice offers two styles of play: "quiet" passage and open battle. Artificial intelligence of enemies became better than Deus Ex: Human Revolution , play, respectively, will be more difficult. Enemies travel in groups and if suspected something was wrong, summoned colleagues together to explore the dark corners. No more single dummy.

In an open battle Jensen also have hard times: opponents bypass with flank attack of the entire group. Also at your disposal will go more useful implants. Now, Adam can not only see enemies through walls, but also scan them for electronics and ammunition. Hacker will allow the implant to hack turrets and computers at a distance (as in the Watch Dogs ).

Do you remember the blade in the hands of Jensen? In Mankind Divided is a lethal weapon will receive an alternative type of attack - Adam learned to shoot a crossbow as a blade. Fans of "noisy" passing too will be satisfied: Jensen blinds enemies smokescreen and with the help of X-ray vision shoots them from an automatic rifle.

For protection from enemy fire can be briefly activated nano-shield and then bullets will bounce off the chest of Adam. In general, mechanical augmentations of Human Revolution remained untouched, but the amount of improvement has increased markedly.

The plot of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided remains a mystery. Developers do not plan to migrate from a previous save of the series - solutions Human Revolution players will not have consequences, and none of the four endings Human Revolution will not canonical.

For this reason, we have to say goodbye to some of their favorite characters, including and ( spoiler! ) pilot Farid Malik. In one of the missions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution Farida plane was shot down on approach to the landing. Life charming pilot was in the hands of players: could repulse enemy offensive and save Malik or throw it to die at the crash site. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on the job we will deliver new pilot - Elias check.

Developers do not plan to transfer stored from the previous part of the series - solutions Human Revolution players will not have consequences, and none of the four endings Human Revolution is not canonical.

The developers promise that additional work will have an impact on the gameplay. For example, if Adam decides to cross the road bandits in the beginning of the game, then later one of the crime bosses can considerably spoil the blood of the main character, set on a group of bandits in the next story mission.

Game development studio is engaged in Eidos Montreal. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Release date will be announced later.

Wait so they are assuming Malik is dead in this timeline (i.e: Jensen doesn't save her at the crash site)? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck Youuuuuuuuuuuu Squeenix (or whoever made up that translated blurb if it's fake).

After reloading 7,098 times to get that situation handled non-lethally, I fully agree with your sentiment.

I am glad that we're getting to play as Adam again, though. I didn't feel like he got the ending his character deserved.

You won't get any agreement from me. I loved DX:HR.
