Want to Be a Guest on The GWJ Conference Call?

Section:

As part of our 2014 Donation Drive we reached the goal of having special community guests on the podcast. This will be a draw so everyone gets a chance! All you have to do to enter is post in the comments below and we'll collect all the names and draw them out of a hat on one of our planned live shows.

What do you need to be on the Conference Call?

- A solid microphone. A good headset or even newer laptop mics are doable. A $20 headset or webcam mic isn't going to cut it.

- The ability to record your local audio track. We can help set that up, no biggie.

- Ideas for topics you're interested in!

- Availability to record on an evening over a weekend. Talking North America here, but we can figure out overseas stuff too.

Comment in this post if you'd like to be on the show! We'll leave it for a few weeks before we start to draw names. Good luck!

I think this would be fun as hell.

Sure, sounds like fun! But I reserve the right to use a soup can and string. After all, if it's good enough for Stan, in the Conference Call graphic, it's good enough for me!

I'm always interested in this. I *almost* paid my way into it in the donation drives a couple times.

Then I just didn't. Not sure way.

Put me on after the release of the new Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void release. I won't have a problem opening my yap when that conversation starts

Give me a topic, or give me a game, and give me some time for adequate research and I'd be interested in doing this. It really depends on what's going to be discussed because I love the discussions in the podcast but sometimes find my exposure too limited when coming in cold to aptly contribute.

edit: also a decent amount of time (week or two) to schedule the time to record - I work late hours and are west coast, so would need to schedule a proper recording time.

Just so everyone knows, we usually lean on the guest to guide what we talk about in the show since it's pretty important they feel like they have something to offer on the topic.

Achievements!

I'm a huge fan of the podcast, but not exactly a strong member of the community. No slight meant, you're just blocked from work!

I'd love to be on, but if you want to set some lower threshold of community involvement to be eligible (either overtly, or behind the scenes), I totally understand.

...but I can't miss even a small chance at such a unique opportunity!

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I got "fresh takes."

I pretty invariably find myself to be fascinating, and I'll just assume everyone else would agree given the opportunity. I'll join the lottery. I'd probably want to ramble about having kind of grown up with gaming from the early arcade era (I OWNED A PONG CONSOLE, YOU DANG WHIPPERSNAPPERS) to today, and how weird the gaming-loving world is to me.

I would be all about a guest spot. I even did radio commercials back in college; so you know this voice is smoooooth.

There. With bells on. I'll paint little smiling faces on the bells just to emphasise how much I am there. Smiling faces... with hats.

I would like to be considered! I record a podcast myself, so have a good microphone, but I am located in the middle east, so...

Tell me about the podcast! Not a tryout, since this is a draw, but I'm curious.

I'm going to win and we're going to talk about how great SOCOM is for a full f**king hour.

Oooh, I want to talk about Heroes of the Storm and the tournament for Heroes of the Dorm on ESPN2.

I'd love to be considered, I'd talk about anything though my main interest in games lately has been destiny and diablo 3, Retro games are always a good topic. Canadian weather

I don't post as much I would like to on the forums but it is cool to try for a chance on the podcast and I love this community.

I'd like to throw in my name. Not the most active poster but a long time listener!

I am tentatively in. I have a cute accent of someone whose English is not a mother tongue, which may help you make fun of me

Have enjoyed reading you guys's comments for years and would love to hear many of you on the podcast. Make sure you have good microphones dudes!

This old timer is throwing his hat in the ring, er nominating himself for Lord Commander of the Knights Watch. (whichever comes first)

The only topic that comes to mind where i might have some contributions is the how do you game when you only have a few hours a week of viable time.

If that's not been beaten to death I'd be happy to give it a whirl.

I'd love to toss my hat in. After doing a press circuit for the past year or so I'm becoming dangerously comfortable on podcasts and radio shows!

EDIT to add some possible topics...

-Exposition in video game narratives

-Adulting and Dungeons and Dragons - Discussing how playing D&D has evolved as we've gotten older, from both a game play angle (change of editions) to a personal one (free time as a teenager vs. free time as an adult, etc.)

-Great writing in games and other mediums

-Origin Stories - How did we all come to gaming? How do people come to gaming now vs ten years ago vs thirty years ago?

-Niches - There is so much content available that finding the specific type of thing you want is easier than ever. Broad appeal used to be the objective, but more and more games, TV shows, and films have to stand out to get noticed. What are the pros and cons of the era of the niche?

-Spoiler Discussion of Kentucky Route Zero - Speaking of niches, this game is begging for a spoiler discussion, despite being two episodes shy of a conclusion.

I'd love to guest. I have a super idea for a topic but I'm not gonna put it out here because I don't these forum guys....you know how forum guys are.

Pick me b/c I think I could be the next Justin McElroy if you give me a chance.

Carl

I'm so in. Mostly a lurker but have done 90 (as of tonight) podcasts with my friends that TENS of people listen to! Would love to chat with y'all about gaming whilst employed!

I'd love to guest host. I've been listening since 2007 and you all even inspired me to start my own podcast, which I've been editing and producing. http://pixelbypixel.libsyn.com (forgive the poor website)

I'm a student/indie developer (with little pedigree, but with insight nonetheless!) I've also interned at Blizzard as an engineer. I can bring a six-pack of jokes if you'd like.

Possible topics:

-historical settings
-how the gaming industry grows (how do AAAs recruit vs how do Indie teams start)
-playing games like a developer
-In defense of schlock
-Ethics in Games Journalism (kidding!)

Flinging my hat into the ring from Down Under. I've been co-hosting a gaming podcast for around a year now, so a decent mic and local recording procedure is already rote. And I've got plenty of topics saved up for future episodes!

Remember folks, that we have threads here dedicated to gaming podcasts and non gaming podcasts, so don't hesitate to mention your podcast there!

I'd love to be on the podcast.

Me, Me! I won't even talk about my nuclear-powered PC (much)! I've always wished there would be more GWJCC members from outside North America, what better way to achieve it than to do it myself

Happy to stay up late to be on the world's number one gaming podcast.
And English accents are sexy.
Apparantly...
