Hmm, sounds kinda skimpy for $10

So, minor issue I have with the game, and this includes the commentary, which has been previously mentioned:

3rd round of a tournament on tour, playing 10 strokes ahead of the competition (mind you, I have only won 1 other tournament (barely) and my norm is missing the cut in plus double digit fashion) and I get this:

-Commentary telling me he's seen mediocre play from me the entire tournament
-Crowd cheering wildly on every shot, including the ones that find the rough and sand
-My character celebrating every shot like it's the 18th hole at the open and I've placed it 1 foot from the cup, even those horrible rough/sand shots

I would rather go back to losing and missing cuts, the reactions are more accurate...

I'm not a fan of the career mode here at all. But I've been playing this a lot more lately, as the golf season starts hit hits stride.

They have a pretty nice suite of courses now. There have been patches that shored up the quirks in gameplay. They added turn based head2head play, so it is not purely everyone playing at once. You can play a friend and watch each other's shots. This is slower, but a lot more engaging and social.

Mostly though, I'm playing the online tournanents on Tour difficulty. My last three rounds have been -2, +5, and +5 while using Spieth. These rounds have been everything I like about video game golf. The +5's were due to the challenge of 12-17 mph wind. I earned birdies and bogeys.

While I would be up for some head2head, I'm really hoping some folks may take a stab at the Daily and Weekly tourneys with me. It's more fun to compare scores on equal settings and conditions.

I play on tour, but their are options for both arcade and classic (read: three click). While the top of the leader boards still tend to be guys shooting -16 to -20, most are playing in more realistic fashion.

I still think the gameplay is outstanding. The presentation is pretty great, but they do need to sit the commentators down and record a lot more lines. I think they have some as they add new courses. I don't hear the lines repeated as much, but they still need to expand it.

But ugh, career mode is lame. I'm considering just grinding for awhile until I have my golfer at a decent level. I use Spieth, who is 92, like Rory. My golfer is 62. The difference is massive and not really all that fun.

I wish a new version of the game was coming out, as the base of a great game is here. They just need to make it more social, and for your experience to feel more persistent.

Being able to look at replays, check out my FIRs and GIRs, as well as longest drives and average drives would give me more context to my playing.

But mostly, they need to bring back country clubs, where folks can creat tournaments and seasons to play with friends. If you had those, and provided a ton of stats for score chasing, it would be more fun.

But on the links, the game feels pretty perfect right now.

Damnit, why did I switch to PS4?

It's where all the cool kids went. You should probably be asking me why I didn't go PS4.

It's never too late. We could get a Madden 17 league going.

I know NCAA makes for better team building, in a league than free agency and drafting, but EA has finally nailed the gameplay in Madden, in my opinion.

Just saying.

But hey, I bet RMPGAT could be had relatively cheap on the PS4. It's still worth checking out.

I have it on PS4, got it cheap through some sale recently but hadn't gotten a chance to play it.

So far, though - I'm enjoying it more than TGC. I've played two events in career mode, and I like how it levels up the stats of my player randomly, rather than me trying to figure out if power is better than forgiveness. I have some of the assists on (somewhere between arcade and tour), so I won both of my first events easily. I assume it will get more challenging later on, or I will have to turn some of the assists off. Putting is much easier than TGC, but not so simple that it is a press of a button. Lots of unlock options for customizing your appearance and clubs, which is okay. The courses look great, but I haven't tried any of the online stuff yet.

I'd be up for some league or just playing in the daily/weekly tourneys - whatever...

This would be a great game for EA to take advantage of Microsoft's new willingness to allow cross platform play.

I am playing my career in a an attempt to grind my golfer to better stats. Im playing on pretty much arcade settings, although I leave the putting line off because it actually confuses me.

I'm also using the new feature in which the game sims most of the holes and just has you play 4 or 5 "significant" holes. I will probably go back to playing every hole once I level up enough to want to play on Tour settings. While using zoom and the aiming arc really makes it easy to do well, it also kind of teaches you about the effects of shot shaping and how to take advantage of it that does help when you play with stuff turned off. So the easy setting isn't a waste.

Personally, though, I kind of find the career aspect to be the weakest part of the game still. It's been stripped of a lot of it's features from the TW days. I miss the driving range, club tuning, and even the way you used winnings to buy clothes and upgrades. Now new tiers of equipment and clothes open up as you increase your level. For grinding, it is nice that much of this is automated, though.

So for now I'm jumping between the online tourneys, using the pros, and career mode for leveling up my golfer. I scored a pretty nice -5 with Dustin Johnson last night on TPC Sawgrass. I had just watched a LP of a guy scoring a -13 with him earlier and decided to give him a try. The advantage of long drives was pretty obvious.

The game has drawn me back in for a second season of golf, so that's a plus. But I still wish EA would flesh it out with more social features. Golf is the epitome of a score chasing game. It should be loaded with ways to compare my play to folks on my friends list.

I'll be all over this when they throw it in the vault =)

I don't see this going into The Vault anytime soon. The only exception would be if EA has some significant DLC coming up they plan to sell. As of now, everything has been free.

Even then it all depends on how it is selling. They ought to be selling it for about $30, which is what The Golf Club is going for. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was still sitting in the store for $60.

But if EA has Augusta coming down the pike, putting the game in The Vault would trigger a bunch of sales for whatever they think they can charge for The Masters. I don't know if if any other courses are in demand enough to sell for significant $$$.

That said, the game doesn't need courses. It needs an expanded career mode and social features, including the ability to create private tourneys and seasons. I don't see them being able to sell those as add-ons, but if they provided them for free, particularly while the PGA is in full swing, they could re-launch the game and probably sell a bunch of copies.

My guess is that it won't be added to the vault, and sometime in the next 3 months they will sell some courses, maybe in a pack or two.

Coming to EA Vault on May 10th.

Sweet.

Yay! Will be signing up for the vault when I can squeeze it in then =)

I'm really hoping this is not an end to the series. The game deserved the mixed reviews and low sales of got, but it still has a fantastic game of golf as its base. It's lack of features and a boring and shallow career mode that hurt the game. But on the links it is really fantastic. So this is a great way to get in on the game.

The three-click swing method is actually really great, although I'm still stuck on the analog swing.

Maybe if a bunch of people try it and stick with it, EA will invest in another game in the next year or two.

It's analog swing all the way for me, I just can never get my head around the three click mode.

Apparently the devs are still working and improving the game.

We are in the cert process. Probably have it out next week. I would share details but there is a blog, so I don't want to steal marketing's thunder. Once they share the blog (I have no timetable on that yet) I can talk about what is in the patch.

Hint: We messed with career and there is probably a new course.
