Vermintide 1 + 2

Updating this for the new game since the chat is happening here, thanks for the prod BushPilot.

Vermintide 2 is out!

Is there a date for this?

I just can't stand zombies (the legit freak me out), but I'd probably be down for striking down some skaven scumm in the name of the God Emperor.

Looks more like Dead Island with skaven instead of zombies to me.

That's not a bad thing!

Just picked this up tonight and am playing the pre-order beta (because I'm a Warhammer sucker). One hour in, I'm liking it, but would like it better with some GWJers to play with. When you all pick it up, friend me up and let's do this thing!

I can't afford this but I bought it anyway with judicious use of Steam credit from trade-ins at retailers, sold Steam cards and pawned TF2 items. The lesson here being: you put Skaven in it, I'll find a way to buy it. I'll sell organs if I have to. Mine, other people's, I'm not picky.

Should definitely be down for some multiplayer at some point, depending on how well the game handles moon ping.

Just played my first game. That was pretty awesome. I'm still not sure exactly what I'm doing, but I think I was reasonably effective as Bardin, using my shield to block choke points and knock the Skaven around.

Its pretty damn awesome - I'm Razgon on steam (Surprise!) in case anyone wants to play!

Played one game and really dug it using the Waywatcher. Can't wait to try the other classes out and the rest of the maps! The atmosphere is great and love it that the Skaven flood in different ways ie through the roof, climbing walls, through holes etc.. good times!

This....is pretty fun.

The L4D vibe is very strong, right down to the green highlighting of your companions when they are out of sight, rescuing downed companions, special Skavens like the Ogre, horde rushes, and getting healthpacks and ammo. I like the tome mechanic, because it puts pressure on you to minimize carrying around health.

Like the light leveling and loot too. Its a bit of technical mess, with long loads, and i've had a few crashes. UI and the meta-structure is straight out of 2000. It some how reminds me of the Vampire: The masquerade RPG.

I did have it crash on me after I completed a mission, said something about failing to load loot and gave me a quit to desktop button and no other option.

Still, forgivable for it still being in beta, and the actual gameplay is incredibly fun. I actually quite like the UI, it's really simple and easy to read, which seems important considering how damn chaotic the game can get in intense moments, just like Left 4 Dead. Looking forward to digging in to this more when I have a few hours to spend on it.

It's really a L4D vibe as mentioned above. I love how if you get separated, there is a greater risk with Skaven assassins or the ones that throw a rope around your neck and pull you away to the massive rat ogres. Really fun so far!

I've had teammates strung up in a hangmans noose, with a band of skaven running around him gleefully - pretty detailed and strong stuff in this game! Loving it quite a bit so far, but need more levels, which of course it will release with.

Also, PLEASE give me my Warrior Priest of Sigmar. Thanks!

Just picked this up as well. $27. Feel free to add me.

Some quick tips about loot:

Magnus Tower has two Skaven Grimoires and three tomes. Each gives you an additional die in the loot die roll, and the grimoires are, I believe, automatic successes. If you want blue loot on Normal, the grims are your ticket. There's only one slight problem ...

They permanently take 25% of your health cap per grimoire.

You can discard them by equipping them and then attacking, which will give you your health cap back. For this reason, I recommend against using the mouse wheel to change weapons - it is very, very easy to discard the grim and lose it permanently.

In four Normal runs this afternoon, I scored an excellent blue shotgun and blue great axe, and my dps basically doubled.

Also, bit of a spoiler,

Spoiler:

You can totally cheese the Magnus Tower. After you blow the horn, run down the left side of the horn, crouch, and crawl underneath. The Skaven can hit you if you're near the edge, but you won't get overwhelmed and you can shoot and swing out from underneath. The only thing you have to watch for is gas - it'll kill you down there in a hurry.

Smuggler's run doesn't have tomes or grims, and Supply and Demand only has tomes as far as I know - so the majority of runs will be Magnus due to the loot situation.

Also, Hard difficulty is ... really hard.

Thanks for the tome & grimoire explanation. The game doesn't make an attempt to teach you.

Fun game. I'm not sure how much motivation I'll have to run the same maps over and over but there does seem to be variation from run to run and I'll withhold judgement when all the maps are in the game.

I hate cheesing in games like this, and already there are people who will kick you if you don't want to use the horn tactics - so damn annoying.

Yeah I totally see a patch coming for that.

This is a lot of fun --- totally surprising how much of the game is a good solid improvement on L4D's meta game ...by having a meta game.

All that needs to be ironed out is stability, I think.

I have had zero crashes so far in 4 hours play. I see you have had crashes in an earlier post, is that during the game or loading?

I was having a ton of crashes. I mean entire machine locked-up crashes. Had to lower settings to "medium". Seems a bit better now.

Looks like they patched away some of the Horn exploits

No crashes here, I'm playing on medium.

The runs are reasonably different, primarily in the placement of the ogre and the sturmvermin, the two really tough obstacles. They can go really bad - once we ended up getting not one but two gas rats during an ogre fight. I've also successfully avoided the sturmvermin twice.

What encourages me about this is that they are going to have thirteen maps to start, which if they are all as big as Magnus will represent significantly more map variety than L4D.

My crashes seem mostly to do with MP hosting and connecting. Once in a game I'm fine.

Servers are still down. Seems someone hacked their servers and wrecked a bunch of stuff.

Are they not just prepping for the real release Friday?

No, they mentioned unauthorized access to their backend servers and having to go to backup servers. Servers are up now. They also included a 4th beta map.

OoOoo. But I won't have time til the actual release. Who do people like play OK bg the most?

I feel like sienna gives the most flexibility in play style.

I've been getting quite a few crashes these days. Seems like 3 out of 5 games will crash and send you back to the start of the level. Very frustrating.

Sienna seems like the most interesting play style. If she overheats, you can use her as a suicide bomber. Just make sure someone's around to pick you back up again.

So I dipped and I'm really impressed with this game! So far the bright wizard is my favorite. Just love the flame affects as you light everything up.

Does this game have perks, character leveling, etc like Evolve or is it static like L4D?
