Rock Band 4 Catch-All: Let's get the band back together!

When I bought this last year I could not get this to work correctly with the old guitars; and they did not have the option to buy a new guitar (without buying the bundle). Now I see that the PS4 has a Rock Band guitar for sale on Amazon and Target; but the picture looks exactly like the old guitars - by that I mean it has a "Start" button. Does anyone know if this is the new compatible guitar or if they just bundled the old guitar?

I just grabbed my Xbox 360 guitar and compared it with the Xbox One guitar I got with my bundle.

The newer guitar has the updated "double square" and "hamburger" buttons, and updated "power" button. I don't know what the PS3/PS4 differences would be. From what I recall, the newer hardware also runs on 3xAA, while the older ones used 4xAA.

I'd say if it's got the older buttons, it's probably just the older guitars. But what I see on Amazon, it looks like it'll be the newer guitar.

I love that the guitar is $100, but the game + guitar bundle is on sale for $70 right now.

Anyone else pick up the Rivals DLC/Expansion today?

I think I pre ordered it a while back, but if I didn't, I'll be picking it up soon. My girlfriend and I just got engaged on Friday during Rock Band, so I think it's fair to say that I owe it to Harmonix to pick it up.

I pre-ordered for PS4, but Amazon apparently had some delays. I'm not supposed to get it until Monday now.

But since I don't have my PS4 yet (see the loathe thread, Dell sucks) I guess I'm not missing out for now.

Come on, no details? What song?!

I bought it. But all my instruments have crapped out. So I will need to find a way to at least buy the revamped guitar. I haven't seen it for sale all on its own yet. Also, was I crazy, or didn't Harmonix announce they were doing a Rock Band VR?

Hehe, actually I just asked her to 'be in a band with me' before we started.

The official web site doesn't seem to list it, but the standalone controller can be preordered from Amazon, GameStop (XBox), GameStop (PS4), or directly from PDP.

And no, you're not crazy.

Game (+Rivals) installed last night. Was easy to figure out my import/exports from games or packs that I had.

Was much more difficult getting the individual songs I had bought piecemeal imported. Sometimes they didn't show up as Purchased/Free when browsing the PSN store on my PC. But then I was like "I know I own that song" and would open it in a new tab and it would change from $1.99 to Free. So the store just wasn't syncing up.

I used the web store because the in-game store was even worse. First, there are a ridiculous amount of songs. But worse, I would scroll to something that I owned, it would report the price as Free, then I would click, and sometimes it wouldn't load the store to "buy" it. Just nothing would happen. Other times, I got the store to load, but then the download page after that never showed up. And going back through the store after you already own it but haven't downloaded it got me a blank page and some error message about how I couldn't purchase it.

So I had to go to download list on the web PSN and send the songs to my PS4. So then I just stayed there to search for songs.

Still not sure I got everything. Also maybe some PS3 DLC songs didn't get ported over yet or license expired or whatever? Because I know there was one or two songs I bought my wife that I could not find in either store.

Anyway... think I'm finally at the point where I can play.

Speaking of song download problems, has anyone that bought Blood Sugar Sex Magick been able to find it for redownload since rock band 4 came out? I have not. Figured there were issues with the licensing but typically that means no new purchases as opposed to everyone who's previously bought it losing access to it permanently.

I haven't had much trouble getting my old DLC on the Xbox One. About the only real issue I had was I couldn't easily exclude the few tracks I'd rather not have (mostly things like covers that later got original versions).

My biggest issue is both my guitars have developed a habit of not responding partway through a song. They're both Rock Band 4 models. I hope this is a software issue that can be patched, and not a hardware problem.

Vargen, I have the same issue. I find that I need to reconnect the guitars about halfway through some songs. It doesn't always happen, but it will once in a while.

I've been wondering about that as well. I know I bought "Ride The Lightning" when it first came out as DLC years ago, but I don't see it available anywhere in the game store for me to download again. Not thrilled about it.

If anyone is looking to join a Rivals crew on Xbox One let me know and I'll get you an invite.

They're finally back on sale!

*dances*

Really looking forward to trying the Ion kit with RB4.

Anyone have any ideas on where I could get another Rock Band 4 guitar on PS4? Mine died/just won't connect to my PS4. I looked around and it is being sold for $400 in some places. I love Rock Band 4...but not THAT much

Im getting an urge to get back into Rock Band (and Guitar Hero if possible). I'm super far behind though. My last console was an Xbox 360. I believe, if I understand what I've read right, that if I can get instruments and I get a new Xbox One of any description, I should still be entitled to my old DLCs and imports from Rock Band 3. These might even carry over to Xbox Series X when its released because it's also backwards compatible? Not sure how many generations back that goes.

What really chaps me is that I just tossed by old kits in the garbage... 3 moves ago when it seemed smarter to ditch them than pay to have them moved across the country.

Although, is there a suitable PC clone yet (that includes all 4 instruments)?

Clone Hero is a very good PC variant, but it's guitar only. The community has been great at constantly pumping out new songs for it.

As for the Xbox One variant. All of your DLC is tied to your Xbox name, so yeah, you'll have all that stuff. Even all the older games, if you transferred them into RB 3.

The instruments are pretty tough to come by right now, since they haven't been made in years. And the dongle that makes the 360 kits work with Xbox One is even harder to get, if I remember correctly. I haven't looked in a while, but last time I did there were no 3rd party options that I could find.

Your best bet is to scour the usual second-hand sites for a guitar or drumset from RB4.

Yeah I'd do Clone Hero if it supported Drums and Voice for sure. Its certainly nice to know that all my Rock Band content is still there. I've long since misplaced or given away the discs I had so I'll need to reacquire RB4 but if I can do that I should have 2-3+ full games worth of songs in there!

I would also reacquire Guitar Hero: Metallica. That one was amazing.

At one point, in RB3 times I think, GameStop stopped taking in instruments to resell. Probably because people were dumping them when broken. And maybe because of taking up so much inventory space. But it definitely dried up the convenient second hand market a bit.

As big as some of the things are I wouldn't be surprised if some people just threw them out when moving instead of trying to resell.

Weird question. If I let someone log in as me on an Xbox One, would they be able to open RB4 (which I now own digitally) and do the RB3 import, so that it gets 'counted' before they stop allowing that in December?

Im not sure Im going to be able to get my hands on a XB1 or XSeriesX in time.

Im both asking if this is possible and if someone is willing to help

This might be a dead end in a dead thread, but I just got my hands on a series x and I’m looking to revive the heady days of rock band that I remember so fondly. Does anyone have an Xbox One compatible guitar they’re willing to part with? Something that’s possibly sat around collecting dust by 2021?

It amazes me how difficult these guitars are to find. I have a PS4 one, but it isn't great, and finding another one is a monumental task. Even more frustrating knowing that they are probably just sitting in basements as you said.

+1, I really wish it wasn’t so hard to find them these days. I still have my Xbox 360 guitar, but the adapters are just as tough to get hands on now too

My PS4 guitars were all sticky a couple months ago when I tried them, on the strum. Rubbing alcohol freshened them up. Had a couple good sessions earlier this year on PS4/5.

My PS4 guitar (it came bundled with RB4) just isn't super responsive. It has a gummy, soft feeling to it. But it never felt all that great, to begin with. The lack of a *click* really impacts the feel of the thing. It's also not super responsive. I am not sure why the guitar got worse for the latest iteration. Or maybe I just have a lemon. Also, I am not really as bitter as I sound. I just love the franchise and sunk hundreds (yeah, I know) of dollars into DLC alone, so I'd like to be able to really play it.
