Can I join, or do you feel like you're getting overfull? I don't have time for a regular session but this fits well.
Plus the Adventurer's Hall premise makes me think of Etrian Odyssey.

Plus the Adventurer's Hall premise makes me think of Etrian Odyssey. There is no overfill. Seriously, this is designed to be a bunch of one shot pick-ups, the more players we have the more playing that happens, the more our shared world grows. :). PM me your e-mail and I'll invite you to Obsidian Portal page.
Done!
Sending you a PM with my e-mail. Haven't played 5th since the playtest, but definitely need to get a flexible campaign in my life.
Anyone who wants to DM should feel free to go ahead and follow the steps in the "How To Pitch and Adventure" (linked in OP) at will. Once you have a character posted, you are free to sign up. DM's are free to use whatever medium is best for them. If you have particular house rules, those are also at any individual DMs discretion.
Are we posting our DM ideas here then? Same with Characters? The Obsidian Portal actually has a pretty Nifty Dynamic Character Sheet built in for 5e (if you've specified it as a 5E style campaign) that you can use.

But then the benefit of the format is that new characters can be cycled into the "guild" at any time. Even if a player feels like his PC has completed their own goals or whatnot, they can fade into the background / move into "management" / or flat-out retire (opening the door for needing to be pulled out of retirement with cliched lines such as "I'm too old for this sh*t").
On the other hand, you could probably Skype up with someone who has a PHB to help get a character running. Hell, we could have a big ol' Skype fest just to do this.
That could be fun, put me on the list for that if anyone to set something like that up.
Are there any plans for how to tackle the level gap problem?
Good question.

Might be a good idea for GMs to set up scenarios at certain levels. This + or - 1 level characters are allowed in? Unless you want to try a 'group level' type system where we all share the same level.
That sounds about right.
And we can have multiple characters.
Count me in. Can't commit to any kind of regular game right now so this is perfect.
I used this to make a character. It was pretty simple.
Oooh, just came across this:

Point buy calculator. Makes my excel spreadsheet look pretty tawdry.

Dang my multi class Bard/Druid/Soul Knife/Fuchsia Dragon Disciple is going to need a lot of points.
I did a multi bard/rogue in the playtest that was pretty fun, might readjust and do that again. I just realized I never bought the player's handbook(just the starter edition) so I don't have rules for the Bard. D'oh!
I've got a PHB on the way and will peruse and get a character up in the next few days.
This sounds like a lot of fun. Count me in!
Another idea I had(stole) for dealing with levels is sorta like FFXIV's system. Basically every character can be any class, but those classes have their own levels. So everyone starts out at level 1 and experience earned during sessions go towards the class used. We could iron out the rules, like no changing classes during sessions and multi-classing...actually multi-classing would be a little more complicated I think. Once you get some levels your combined multi-class levels can only equal up to your max class level. So if I have a level 10 Mage, I could multi class for a mission as a Level 5 Fighter, Level 5 Cleric(should I actually have the levels in those classes). Since each class has separate levels the experience gain when multiclassed would probably need to be divided among the classes. I'm still not certain about that, maybe when you multi you designate one as the prime class and that one gets the experience from the session?
Anyway, just some thoughts, it would potentially make things more complicated for everyone, as they'd have a lot to keep up. But could also give people a chance to play classes they'd never usually play.
I say we just play normal D&D at first and if this whole guild lasts for 6 or more months we look at doing some sort of reboot where we try to fix what ever problems come up. Like for the level thing we could set it up so a characters combat level is different from the level for say, their ability to disarm traps. So you have the Hitpoints and BAB (That's still a thing right?) of a level ten thief but the lock picking of what ever your actual level is.
My books arrived today and I really like what I am seeing here. 4th Edition really didn't feel organic in any way to me and I had a real hard time getting into the RP mindset. 5th Edition feels a lot more creatively inspiring.
As far as levels go, I think we should consider letting lagging players 'boost' levels to catch up if they need to. It seems out of the spirit of the experiment to prevent players who may not have the time to participate regularly from participating when they DO have the chance because their character is not sufficiently caught up with whatever level range might be on offer. Without that concession we'd likely see this fragment into a few regular groups with the stragglers quickly left behind.
Odd question on character creation...I am building a gnome ranger. Rangers get a longbow out of the gate, however as a gnome I can't really use a longbow. Would any of the collective mind if my character started with a shortbow instead of a longbow?
Is your gnome going to insist on calling it a longbow anyway, and act offended whenever someone tries to correct him?
Never! Although secretly even a short bow would feel like a long bow to poor lil Warfiz, so he might be chastising on the inside!
Excellent...Warfiz is coming together...oh how I can't wait until level 3, when I can become godly* as a Beast Master! Muahahaha.
*Well as godly as one can when deciding to play a subclass that most consider to be horribly worthless.
This is too cool! I might join.
