As for the final choice

Spoiler:

Just like there is no guarantee Chloe wont die over and over if you save here, there also isn't any guarantee that the storm wont keep reappearing at this point, no matter what you do. #TeamSaveChloe

Nice, Stele!

LiS was my #3 game in 2019.

In 2020, Before the Storm was my #1.

LiS was my #1 GotY when it came out. BtS and True Colors are decent enough though neither hits the same highs as the original.

2 is utter garbage not fit for anyone capable of rational thought.

I saw True Colors on some '22 GotY posts so that's what got me into this mess that last few weeks.

Looks like the True Colors super duper edition is on sale for $40 and comes with LiS remaster and BtS remaster. So that's probably the cheapest way to get the 2 games I don't have that most seem to like.

I read mixed reviews of the remasters. But I think it was more a "if you have the original don't buy this, but if you've never played go for it". I guess there's other threads I could check without spoiling myself on the games.

BtS is nearly as good as 1 imo. Weaker on the "gameplay" of your characters ability, but for story and 'great moments', BtS was easily up there with 1.
Also, the DLC is mandatory, but I assume it is automatically there in the remaster.

I really didn't like 2.

True Colors + DLC is great. Not quite as good as 1 and BtS for me, but, hey, it is not a competition.

Certainly the impression I have gotten. It is a bit like Last of Us 2 in the sense of, 'did this really need remasters?' Only more so for BtS than 1.

Personally, True Colors including the DLC was my favourite by far, although I never played 2. It just felt more grounded and the town you resided in felt more real. Plus I spent my youth with headphones on all the time and wasn't in touch with my emotions so maybe I could relate to things more.

Hah yeah I was thinking about that the other day. From age 8 or 9 until 16 I had a walkman or discman everywhere. God knows how many batteries I used in the 90s. And then of course I had a car so the discman went in there to play through the tape deck. Good times.

LiS 1 and BtS left a huge impression on me, and after finishing both I felt so emotionally confused on what I should be feeling. I have not played 2, and I started True Colors but have stopped on episode 3 - I need to turn off motion blur so the movement will stop making me dizzy. What I have played of True Colors tho, I have enjoyed, and I agree that the town felt more real and like I had been to that mountain town.

The first game had, by far, the best gameplay gimmick. I think Before the Storm had a slightly better story than 1. True Colors is not as good as either of them but I would still recommend it. I agree with others about the setting.

I think Before the Storm had a pretty good story with some fine moments, until the later sections of Episode 3, when I assume someone came in with the note "Need higher stakes," and suddenly Chloe is trapped in a late-season episode of Sons of Anarchy.

True Colors has a lot to commend, and the town does look great, but I think the limited area and cast made it feel pretty stagey in my opinion--like what Park City wishes it still was.

I like 2 a lot, too, and I'll leave it at that.

I've continued reading the thread today after a break. Going through all of RNRClown posts from each chapter. Loving the reactions.

Also interesting that some of you did not like the idea of Before the Storm when announced. Guess I'll eventually get to some of you playing and coming around hehe.

Ha! Hard to believe I started this thread back in 2015. Crazy.

LOL glad I didn't pull the trigger. I forgot back on Jan 1 I saw True Colors posted on CAG or Wario64 on Twitter. PS5 version on sale for $10. But it was out of stock, still honoring the price, and delivery estimated Feb 3. I must have just been starting Ch 1 but decided to take the risk, figuring I could cancel it in a month if I didn't like the original. But I forgot I even ordered it for weeks. Then yesterday I got a notice that it was arriving early, Jan 28 instead of Feb 3, and that reminded me that I even bought it. Hahaha.

So yeah, I guess I might go with that one next. Not sure you can upgrade the disc version to ultimate or anything, with the BtS included. But I'll investigate. Anyway looks like I might just skip ahead to that one next, since it's here.

Yeah, this hit me in the right time & place. Was my GOTY and I still think about it frequently.

If you consider yourself quite empathetic and/or have had a recent large loss in your life, True Colors plays on those notes quite well. Especially if you enjoy the nerdier things in life. Plus, the colors!

Definitely play the DLC for more juicy details about what happened in the first game with whichever ending you chose, as well as how it affected others (especially Steph). Also play it if you want another soundtrack to put in your regular rotation.

Took a year, the pile is big, but finally started True Colors this week. Couple of great jams at reflection points. And seen a couple instances of what Alex can do in the early game. Just been to flower shop and record store but it's an interesting little town already.

Finished ch 1 last night. Damn!

Also I need more of you as PSN friends. When I toggled to friend results at the end I got 100/0 for every choice so I think I only have 1 of you who has played True Colors as friends? I think link is in my sig but my PSN name is nyx_stele

On to ch 2 today. Whew

So I thought "Oh, sh*t, am I not on the Friend List?" And then one page back we're establishing that we're on each others' FL. So I'm the one!

I guess people could have played it not on PS5? Got 2 more friend invites yesterday and when I finished ch 2 it was still 100 or 0 for everything.

Kinda weird that Alex decides to talk about her powers at the end of 2 and start of 3, when telling her brother or not was presented as a key choice in ch 1. Ah well.

I messed up by not poking around for more side things to do before completing the stated objective at the start of ch 3. Not sure if there was a trophy but there was a jukebox thing I had almost solved and then I talked to someone and kicked the story forward. Not sure if I should just restart now or just play that part of the chapter again later. I doubt it will matter a ton but it just bugged me because I figured it out and then missed completing it.

Oh sh*t that True Colors Ch 4 ending. Super late last night so I had to call it. Hopefully can finish today, but wow I really wanted to stay up late and see what was going on.

Also romance stuff for Ch 3 and 4...

Spoiler:

Proposing to Steph during the LARP was a fun moment. But then after, checking her feelings and she's repeating "I do I do I do" was just max adorable.

And on the rooftop in Ch 4, checking her feelings and seeing her saying "kiss me kiss me" made that decision feel even better.

Missed 2 more memory items in Ch 4. But now I want to finish the story so I guess I'll maybe do trophy mop up later.

Finished last night and went back to 2 chapters for memories and side quest to get the platinum trophy.

Read a lot of comments 3 or 4 pages back. Agree with some confusion on Alex and everyone's age. And the timeline in ch 5 flashbacks.

As far as final decisions...

Spoiler:

I did stay in Haven, mostly because the rooftop talk showed what looked like a pretty nice future. I wanted to leave with Steph before that but then changed my mind.

I got everyone on my side for council. I did see a tip about Eleanor and Charlotte and Pike for "best ending" to keep their secret, don't take anger, and take fear. But the whole council thing seemed a little silly when it played out. Because if you took Pike's fear, then he stands up and says he saw the evidence and the whole thing should fall apart at that point. But he waits until everyone but Ryan has given support or not. Like come on bro, you're the cop with evidence, speak up already.

I did not forgive Jed. For one he was actively lying, and 2 he had not shown any remorse yet. Right after that he did break down and cry but he still didn't say sorry, so no forgiveness.

Yes it was pretty contrived to throw dad in the mine out of nowhere in ch 5. But I do think that makes Jed and Gabe make more sense. This new kid shows up and Jed feels guilty for killing his dad. So he gives him a job and floats his rent on the apartment above the bar and tries to be a father figure.

No need to replay for me. Not really interested in the other romance choice and it feels like the overall plot is going to play out the same either way.

Not sure about Wavelengths. Steph is awesome. But it's like $20 to upgrade or something. And half the upgrade is DLC costumes for Alex. So with those useless to me for the future, I don't know.

Not sure which, if any, LiS game I will play next, BtS, or LiS2 or possibly Wavelengths. But I've definitely enjoyed the first and True Colors enough to think about giving them more money.

I didn't even end up finishing the DLC. I wanted to like it because the story bits were good but playing it felt like homework.

I never played 2 but I really liked Before the Storm. I think I'd say that the superpower is the weakest between it, 1, and True Colors but the story is really good.

Well hell LiS 2 is $7 on GMG for Steam version. I guess it's worth trying at that price.

Will watch for BtS sale someday.

Wavelengths was a delight if you want more Steph, more music, and some closure on what happened in the first game to people we haven't heard from since. I agree $20 is too much, but if it hits a decent sale I can tell you I added nearly every song to my playlists.

Glad you enjoyed the game, though! I relate to Alex so much, and having an empath nerd as the playable character was core to hooking me.
