Life is Strange by Developer Dontnod

The first episode comes out on Friday! I haven't seen much chatter on GWJ about the game, but I'm really excited for it. I'm going to get it on PS4 so that I can play it in the living room.

Reveal Trailer:

A bit about the time manipulation:

Have definitely been looking forward to this. Little surprised that its not up on the XBox store for pre purchase yet.

Looking forward to this one.

Not looking at the videos, I'm on lockdown. Can't wait!! Only a few days before it unlocks!

Going on lockdown as well, but really excited for this one! Dragon Age was starting to feel lonely as the sole occupant of my PS4's time.

Is this for pc also?

My son took his PS4 to college! How dare he!!!

I hope so! Otherwise what the hell did I pre-purchase on Steam the other day :O

(yes, it is )

Looking forward to this.

I think the asking price is great. Falls right in that sweet spot of, "interested and reasonable enough price to take a chance on".

Looking forward to giving it a go on Friday.

Yep I preordered this ages ago. Can't wait for Friday!

Wait...wait...This releases on Friday? Well then, I know where my weekend will be spent.

Didn't even know this was a thing. Just watched the trailer and it looks really interesting! I'll certainly be trying the first episode.

Not quite sold on the trailer alone, but might dive in if people seem to be enjoying it.

This looked interesting. Has anyone had any thoughts on it around here? Seems like some people are already playing it.

I'm so tempted to buy it on Steam right now and play it, but I'm gonna hold out for the PS4 version tomorrow.

The developers made Spotify and YouTube Playlists of the soundtrack.

Edit: I love that they licensed that Sparklehorse song. It's a favorite of mine. RIP Mark Linkous

Just finished playing the first episode. Interesting. I like it.

Had no idea this was coming, tagging to see what the general feedback is for ep 1. If the review quotes on the steam page aren't too misleading then I'm game.

What was it you dug about Episode 1 Hyp?

Cool. Downloading it now, going to play through it after college this afternoon.

I'm going to get this as soon as I can. Trailer is awesome.

Light spoilers in terms of mood and stuff revealed in trailers. If you're definitely going to play the game, I'd say: just go play episode 1, then come back. Go in fresh and without preconceptions.

Spoiler:

The "roll-back time" thing is both a puzzle solving tool (you can learn things or acquire inventory items and then roll back time), and a feature around irrevocable-choice type plot points (you can see the first-order outcomes of plot choices then roll back time and try the other way).

The persistent choices are well done, in terms of there being good and bad things about both outcomes—so even though you have the ability to change your mind, it doesn't make it "easy". In fact, it makes the choices feel even weightier, because they're absolutely and totally choices.

I like the setting. I like the characters. I like the sort of Nancy-Drew-esque sleuthing that's going on, and the general dealing with classmates.

It's just... it feels good, and interesting. Yes, there's looming doom and bad stuff going on and hard hard decisions, but it all feels kind of hopeful?

So I like that combination of things.

That was REALLY cool. If they can keep up the quality for the subsequent episodes I think we're looking at something for my GOTY 2015 list (crosses fingers).

Final Major Choices...

Spoiler:

- Reported Nathan to the principle
- Comforted Victoria
- Intervened to help Kate
- Came out hiding to intervene with Cloe

And what I assume are minor choices...

Spoiler:

- Let Daniel draw my picture
- Signed Mrs Grant's petition about security cameras
- Helped Alyssa avoid the football
- Erased the insults on Kate's slate
- Watered my plant
- Didn't touch Dana's pregnancy test (well, I DID but I rewound time afterwards!)
- Didn't touch Victoria's photos
- Didn't write on the dirty RV
- I let the bird die (wait! what bird On no! Now I need to replay the entire thing from scratch!)
- Didn't break Cloe's snowglobe.
- Read all of David's files and saw his surveillance setup...
- ...but didn't leave any evidence of me being there

Two other things of note...
- for me at least, the PC version is pretty flawless (I think there was some minor lip-synch issues but not really anything to write home about) and ran extremely well - better than Telltale games anyway.

- also : Lot of different body types and ethnicity included right from the get-go, which is interesting.

I can't wait for tonight! I'm gonna go get a few beers after work with the coworker then proceed to go home and play the heck out of this game.

Mouse and keys or would a controller be solid?

Mouse and keys worked perfectly fine for me, but both are an option. It isn't a QuickTime event heavy game like the telltale stuff can be, especially given it's central mechanic.

Spoiler:

which essentially makes Max invulnerable to anything she (you) can see coming

Tagging the thread. I'll probably wait until there's a deal on all the episodes. The positive chatter is nice to read. Hoping Dontnod doesn't go the way of other smaller studios with ambitious ideas.

I'm really torn on whether I want to keep playing this. The scene in Chloe's bedroom got to me, and I'm frankly a little scared of how badly I want to make David pay for that.

How long is the first episode?

Based on some research it looks like it's a couple hours long.

About 2-3 hours or so sounds right. Felt about the same length as an episode from a Telltale game.

hmm, I'm inclined to wait until all 5 are out so that there's no delay between playing the episodes.
