The Bard's Tale IV Lute-All

Pages

Just announced at PAX South. Bet none of y'all had that for your 2015 Bold Predictions.

I'm hoping this means Dragon Wars II is somewhere in the future.

Talk about out of left field! Interested to see how it starts shaping up.

Whoa.

Yay!!!

Cautiously interested.

Caution be damned, I'm wildly interested! I'm glad to see this resurgence in old school rpg's, and while I may not play it til its been out a while, will try to at least buy it asap.

Does this have anything to do with the PS2 game with Cary Elwes voicing the lead? I loved that game.

That game was something of a spin-off. This sequel would be a true and proper sequel to the original Bard's Tale trilogy. From the sound of things we'll get phase-based combat and tons of old school goodness. I am absurdly excited for this game. I'm taking dance classes just so my happy dance can be properly executed.

If that was the name of the game I'd be buying a poster of the cover art before they even finished development.

Oh heck yeah. As much as I loved the Bard's Tale series, Dragon Wars was favorite Interplay RPG from that era, followed by Bard's Tale III.

Still, I'll take a new legitimate Bard's Tale game for now I've been loving Wasteland 2 so I feel confident they'll put together something good.

Less than a week until the Kickstarter kicks off!

Woo-hoo!

Cut my gaming teeth on that type of game, so I'm stoked about this. I'm all in!

Nice RPS interview with Brian Fargo, it sheds some light on their approach to BT4.

I. Cannot. Wait.

Not only is the Kickstarter live but it is well on its way, having hit almost 450K in its first few hours. If you pledge today you ge ta free copy of either Wasteland 2, The Witcher, or The Witcher 2.

Done! I don't see where we get a freebie though. Not that it would be a deal breaker, but where did you see it?

Look directly under the "About this project" header and you should see it.

Apparently, once the project finishes you'll be able to claim the key for the game of your choice (so, it'll be a month and change.)

Oh yeah, duh. Information overload. Thanks for the heads up, that's a mighty generous incentive.

So Bards Tale... is it a top down isometric game like Baldur's Gate? I never played a bard's tale before and strongly considering letting this be my first kickstarter, but I need to know more!!!

Bard's Tale was a first person dungeon crawl, where you move around a map in a grid. It's a precursor to Might and Magic. The Etrian Odyssey series is a modern version of this type of game.

EDIT: Pledged for the basic game. Getting Wasteland 2 in a month is quite a deal!

Couldn't resist the $30 Guilt Absolution pledge:

GUILT ABSOLUTION

Have you landed your ship in the pirate's bay before? No worries, friend! If you've previously plundered from us, pick this reward tier for a digital copy of The Bard's Tale IV, Digital Game Manual, Backer Forum Badge, and an OFFICIAL FORGIVENESS LETTER from our CEO Brian Fargo expressing his forgiveness and pardoning your buccaneer ways.

This, sir/madam, has taken me back to halcyon days. I will drink to that... soon as I can actually get my hands on a drink... or something like a drink.

First person? Well I'm out then.

I got the $30 Guilt Absolution pledge - I was a dirty pirate back then, and I want resolution!

I like that it has almost 800.000 in one day!

Glad I checked my email today as I almost missed getting in early enough for the free Wasteland 2. I've been waiting for a sale on that one as I wasn't sure just how interested I was but I was definitely a little interested, it's been hanging out at the bottom of my wishlist for a while now.

I'm far more interested in this; I spent an awful lot of time in my youth playing the Bard's Tale games. Now for the worst part of kickstarting, the wait.

Just noticed that the soundtrack will be done by Julie Fowlis (notable work is on the Brave Soundtrack), Mark Morgan (Composer for Wasteland 2, Fallout 1/2), and Ged Grimes (...I don't really know much about him...). With just Julie Fowlis and Mark Morgan, I'm pretty confident saying that the soundtrack will be pretty damn good.

This was going to fall under my Kickstarter cutoff (I still haven't finished Pillars of Eternity yet!) but the $20 tier was too good a deal to resist.

Plus, I had a legit copy, unlike you filthy pirates. (Interplay's 10th Anniversary CD for the win! So many good games on that.)
