Sure, but when. At release day, the week after, the month after?
Long enough for you to know whether the game is worth buying!
It's just far too easy for a publisher to manipulate the appearance of a game with pre-release media, agreements with youtubers that don't have to be objective, and other underhanded marketing tricks. After suffering enough bogus releases, I'm happy to let other people be the canaries in the video gaming coal mines. It just doesn't make sense to me any more to buy something that hasn't faced even a single critical assessment.
I'm very excited about Cities Skylines. It looks fantastic, the price is right, it pushes all the right buttons, it ticks all the right checkboxes. However, I'm just not going to buy it until someone has kicked the tires and given at least a cursory thumbs-up.

You know these are almost exclusively NOT space cities, right?
I guess you could use yer 'magination.
Seriously, though, I'm a little surprised and immensely happy that you're participating in this thread. You're certainly one of the more passionate gamers on the site.
Aaww, thanks man. Games are indeed a passion of mine, and I do love them city builders. This reminds me actually that I need to play Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. I'm told that's BETTER than Zeus, but I'll believe it when I see it.
It is really good. As good as Zeus but unique in that it is an asian city builder (are there any others)? For some reason it got some middling reviews for being too formulaic to Impressions games. I know this series has its quirks, but since when is that fundamentally a bad thing?
I have no idea why this isn't on GOG yet.
Had a quick look and was unable to find anywhere selling Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. Anyone know anything I don't?
Not really liking Anno 1404 so far - though my main issue might be the campaign being too short-term goal oriented, never really allowing you to play.
I don't remember Anno 1404 (that's Dawn of Discovery, right?) any more, but I always just played the sandbox mode. That opens the whole game up and you just get as far as you can.
My main problem with all Anno games is that the production chains are not listed inside the game. I always just get a cheat sheet that says 2 forests for one sawmill (or whatever they're called, I'm just making names up) and keep it nearby as a reference. That kind of information makes the game so much easier (and more fun, in my opinion). It's a shame you can't pull the information up from within the game. You can only estimate it.
Still, I love Anno games.

Likely because he's part of the Yogscast crew and has 1.8 million YouTube subscribers. You're absolutely right, though. He's most definitely not a professional reviewer.
Ok.. I am not even finished reading this thread, but this video...
We could be make a drinking game, drink one shot every F*** word he says. I would be drunk after 3 minutes.
Is that how people want to be talk to nowaday ?

f*ck yes, we f*cking do.
Wow, that looks really good.
Edit - I'm seriously tempted to break my rule, to get the discount.
Saw Project Aura in the op. It shows that it's still an alpha. Well, it's looking good, but I I see stuff missing in the "main" game that's detailed in the tutorial.
I will let the development goes a little further, but it look promising.

Dawn of Discovery was the pinnacle of the series. I liked how after a few hours it would tell you to take a break.
I can't wait to get my hands on this. Might be time to upgrade my machine, just so I can download the mods that will expand the size of the available terrain.
This looks so damn good and fun.
Did Cities Skylines release day been pushed?
I thought I saw February, now it's march.
Pushed? March 10 has been the only date announced, which a lot earlier than I was expecting.
I bought Cities: Skylines last night.
I've had a stressful few weeks at work, so I'm looking forwards to the calm that I get from playing sim games.
I have sunk easily over 250 hours into the latest SimCity, having missed all iterations since the Amiga version.
From what I've heard, this is looking like a SimCity beater, so eager to get stuck in.
Biggest skylines tip after my first few hours of play ; remember the water pipes and electricity pylons !
Join us over here
Because we're all busy playing Cities Skyline, though that thread has gotten quiet also.
There's apparently a new A-Train game in the 3DS eShop. Not sure how city-builder that is in the strictest sense but it's a long-running Japanese series. If my memory is correct Maxis published one of the earlier entries in the West.
I'm pushing 70 hours after about a month. That's a part-time job. A glorious, wonderful part-time job.
/highfive
I'm at about 85 hours, myself.
Guys, lookit, a PIRATE themed city builder!

It's a build and schedule economic train sim with a brutal spreadsheet focus and a reputation for being the same game reissued over and over again with minimal changes. I tried a few versions of it and it definitely is not worth it unless you are a true spreadsheet geek with a nose for the grind.

So, Tropico 2 ?
So Lethis: Path of Progress you guys. Looks very Zeus-ish, which makes me want it so badly.
