Star Wars: Galaxies - Emulator

This is definitely starting to get its hooks back into me. It's still clunky, the graphics still look 11 years old and you get stuff popping in and rubber banding all the time from server side slowdowns but I'm still getting back into it. I've been playing for an hour or two almost every night this last week slowly working towards creature tamer and bio-engineer. I've got a long, long way to go and I'd forgotten what it was like to be completely broke in game. I always had millions on my original character so it's different to run into the "You don't have enough credits to train this skill" when it only costs 3,000 credits. I'm living mission to mission at this point just trying to fund my skill advances.

Theed in Naboo has a fair number of people in it. Or it did, around 9 PM MT last night.

I'd go check that out if I could afford a ticket.

If you're broke head on over to Mos Eisley and hang out at the main cantina and you can ask there for people to train you. Done that way it's free.

I also cant stress enough to get the ent and doc buffs. After you get that i'd pick a player city that has a shuttle and mission terminals. You can do a lot of missions that way and don't have to travel as far as you would from a main city for high payout missions.

Good points. It's been so long since I've played I've forgotten a lot of the details. For instance, I had set up a wind generator the other day and paid the maintenance on it but had forgotten I had to actually turn it on. So yeah, I wasted a day's worth of maintenance fees to produce absolutely nothing.

If you are going the CH route then once you get the pet command: group you can start getting higher paying missions by grouping with your pet.

Or I guess grouping with other people, but nobody does that in an MMO

I actually used to do that all the time in ye olden days but it's seemed like a good number of the people on SWGemu are already in their own group of friends, which makes complete sense seeing as how a lot of the hardest of the hardcore old timers are the ones playing the emulator. Unless of course I want to get into a macro'd entertainer group. Those are everywhere, just like they used to be. I still haven't bothered making any of my old macros yet. If I stick with it I imagine it's only a matter of time before I dig those back out.

Shouldn't we put this in the mmorpg section?
I fear it will get lost in the sea of non-mmorpg updates here in Games and Platforms.

Actually the way it used to be done was doing what was called Solo grouping. You'd get into a group (bigger the better) and goto someplace like Dantooine and do missions solo. That way you get max xp/loot for the effort, but was able to queue up high level/payout missions.

I agree

Also are people staying on Basilisk? I'm tempted to play on Bloodfin because I miss being a jedi.

Edit:

If folks are deciding to stay is there any interest in picking a player city too call home or see about making our own?

Guess what I just found in a box. A copy of SWG. I might give this a shot. Had a Master Swordsman back in the day.

Then a memory came back grinding on those little womp rats on Tatooine. Painful.

When I log in I just have 2 servers to pick from. The Nova Test Center and the regular server. Can't recall the name. And yes, there's definitely a grind but that's where the macros come in. I just hit novice bio-engineer yesterday and should hit novice creature handler today. This is definitely a game where you can watch a movie while you play. Normally I'd get tired of that but on here the things you can do once you skill up your character are so interesting I'm willing to put up with the grind to get there.

At one point yesterday I had SWG running on my PC, an episode of mythbusters playing on the ipad and I was playing a game on my phone. My kid called me insane for doing 3 things at once. Thank you SWG macros.

If there ends up being a place, I might remake a character. There was absolutely nothing in the starting area where I began and no money or healing to be had there really. It held my attention for about an hour.

I know Theed, Coronet and Mos Eisley have all been packed just about any time I've been on with wall-to-wall dancers and musicians in the cantinas and usually a doc or two hanging around either there or at the med centers. Now in the little out of the way places like Moenia you're doing good to run across a half dozen people but those places were almost always like that. There are apparently a few large player cities that have become hubs of their own but I still have to learn where all of those are.

I can see if I can scrape the cash up to move up to Coronet. Haven't got the patience to run up there (or the health left after lack of black-bar healing)

I'm trying to level up medic so let us know when you might be on and your name and i'll come heal you up.

ingame name is Ranakyn

Plus some things are harder to level up than others. I'm trying to level up medic and the unarmed tree in brawler and they're both painfully slow. I had 2h (which I since dropped to IV) and up to Fencer xx1x with my 1h.

I've been running missions out of a player city on Naboo called Tenemos Island (or something like that). It's a very pleasant city that was obviously well planned and thought out.

What kind of builds are folks going with? I'm currently working on a Ranger/Rifleman/Creature Handler, and have another character slowly working on Medic and building up unarmed to head for TKA.

I'm currently going Fencer/TKM/Medic. I may drop medic, but haven't mad up my mind since i'm also considering 1 or 2 trees of Combat Medic.

I just created a crafter character, but haven't done much but got him survey 1. I'm going to have to use him at some point when my combat toon starts running out of points and I have to drop scout.

I'm also wanting to create a Bio Eng as well, but only have so much time

My first character was going to be a pure crafter focusing on ship building but when I found out the space portion of the game wasn't even online yet I put him on the shelf. I'm now working on my bio-engineer, creature-handler but the focus is definitely the engineer side since I always enjoyed crafting pets. Just the other day I started another character that I intend to be a wookie bounty hunter with some creature handler skills. Who knows if I'll ever get him to that point but I liked the idea so there he sits.

I am also currently basing out Tenemos Island since moving from Tatooine. I just looked for a place with a mission terminal and a shuttle that was a little way into the wilderness, looking for higher paying missions but it looks like a great little town.

I am currently recreating my main from live a CHM/TKM and am at 1112/1111 but since I heard that Basilisk is actually going to be wiped when SWGEMU is "released" and there will be new servers, I am considering just playing around with various other characters and waiting until the release before actually committing. I had thought Basilisk was the live server!

Wait! Who! What!? I thought they were past wiping the entire server. If that's the case I'm not sure why I'm playing right now.

That is what I thought too

I started seeing some comments about Basilisk being wiped and did a little digging, but if you look at this forum post it lays out the plan. Of course this looks like it means that Basilisk has been around for a few years and I only found out about it not too long being being wiped (I believe they are planning on "releasing" this summer). Typical

They're not kidding about far future though... They've been talking about SunCrusher for 3 or 4 years now if not longer.

Huh, no reason to get to attached to my wookie, then. LOL

Still fun to mess around, though.

I've been churning out trash pets for BE experience and then training them for CH experience before destroy... I mean releasing them into the wild. I've paid little to no attention to crafting the pets because I know none of them are going to be very good at this level. I did end up with on aberration though. Most of the trash pets have had their HAM stats in the low hundreds, or even sub-hundreds range. One, however, ended up coming out with 15,000 health, 250 stamina, and 3,500 mind. Of course he still only does 10-20 damage but I have no clue how his health ended up that high. None of the other couple dozen pets I've made so far has even topped 1k in a stat and I've been using roughly the same DNA for all of them. So while I've been levelling up my CH I've had that little health tank out attacking targets with me. Mind you, if anyone ever hits his stamina bar he's down but so far he's been lucky.

I've had those back in the day as well. Don't remember the trigger for it either, but it was very rare. What was a great was having one like that also did a disease. Those sold for big time credits!

Response from one of the medics from Tenemos Island. Fanfar is the second biggest solo group hubs on Dantooine.

The swgemu subreddit has a link at the top of the right-hand column saying that SWG is abandonware and there's a link to a Dropbox folder which contains the CDs. I might be nostalgic enough to check things out one more time. SWG was my favorite MMO after Dark Age of Camelot (liked them both for very different reasons) and it would be fun to explore the world again. Artisan/Architect, here I come Or something like that, it's been a loooong time since I thought about my career choices.

Dude, I freaking SPRINTED to my big PC when I saw this link. I'm downloading the CDs right now. I have no idea where I'm even going to begin. This has made my freaking week!

FYI: The links are RAR files of ISOs. I'm sure most Goodjers are aware of this, but since I forgot and noticed it while reading through the replies, don't forget that 7-Zip is a free program which can unpack RAR files. No need to get the crappy WinRAR trial.

I'm so excited!
