I found Conor Friedersdorf's summation of the discussion of Aaronson's post an interesting read.
I think I've set before that I want Connor Friedersdorf to narrate every single disagreement ever had on the internet.
That said, I read the Alexander article that Friedersdorf is talking to, and it brings to mind something Mallory Ortberg said about an Ayn Rand letter a few weeks back: "It is 30% very good advice, 50% unnecessary yelling, and 20% nonsense." I might switch that 20% and 30% number around. It's long, rambling, and I'm not quite sure how to sum it up. The simultaneously most interesting and wack-a-doodle point that he makes is to draw a connection between anti-Semitism and anti-bronie cartoons.
he makes is to draw a connection between anti-Semitism and anti-bronie cartoons.
If you asked me to come up with a hypothetical statement someone might say that would give me cause to completely and utterly disregard anything the speaker might say for the rest of time, I really don't think I could come up with anything better than this.

I have to agree with kazooka's assessment that the cartoon thing is the "simultaneously most interesting and wack-a-doodle point" in Alexander's untitled essay. Friedersdorf's article is much more cohereant.
I read his article and all I got from it was that it was tone policing.
