Dying Light

Pages

Is anyone planning on picking up Dying Light? It looks to be a parkour movement, FPSurvival game that has some RPG elements where you can improve and customize your character as well as some weapon crafting. The thing I am digging the most is the ability to 4 player co-op.

It releases on January 27th and they have a discount if you purchase a 4 pack on Steam.

Anyone interested in starting up the 4 pack, I would be in for 1!

If this reviews good I'll be purchasing on PS4. The premise is so damn mouthwatering with the parkour, weapons & the world being more dangerous at night.....in 4 player co-op! Are you f**king kidding me

I'd like to, but every time I do I end up not completing it because this genre just freaks me out.

I'd be up for a 4-pack, I don't mind hosting it but I want to wait until we actually have 4 interested people first.

The previews I've seen look nice, however it's from Teccland, the Dead Island devs. I just finished the first game before the holiday, and while I enjoyed it, it was not the Best. Game. Evar.

The follow up to Dead Island was received lukewarmly, the recent arcade DI title was panned and they are also releasing DI2 this year as well, so I'm concerned they might be stretching themselves a bit.

Will wait and see.

nel e nel:

Dead Island 2 is by a completely different studio. It's more like Dead Rising in tone and mechanics from the gameplay videos I've seen.

I'm really looking forward to Dying Light! I loved the mechanics of Dead Island and Riptide even if the stories were bonkers ridonculous.... Most realistic Zombie games yet produced (mechanistically) IMO.

Done! Put me down for 1 for sure then.

I do enjoy saving money while obliterating the undead.

You will have 3 of us there with ya, backing you up. Nothing to be afraid of!

I just found out about this, thanks to a discount GMG is running. It looks like a potentially good alternative to Evolve, as far as the 4v1 aspect goes. I'm having a hard time finding a good, critical preview though.

great, 2 more? works out to $44.99 cad = $37.55 usd (as of post) each.

perhaps not the critical previews you're looking for but
some

So, I’m… cautiously optimistic. I obviously haven’t played enough to form hard judgments but the more I played Dying Light, the more I actually wanted to play. I’m not hopelessly in love with it or utterly desperate to play more, but I’m having a rather good time, and that’s a pretty good way to start off anything.

previews

Dying Light is shaping up to be the zombie game we deserve, while keeping things interesting and fresh in this saturated genre.

Sign me up. I'll happily take spot #3.

Woot! We need just one more sucker...er, I mean educated, parkour performing, zombie smashing, stud of a warm body!

I'll take that 4th spot!

done deal! sent to cartoonin, elycion, and certis

Thanks for being our enabler Krev. Now I just hope this is the game to break my pre-order curse.

No one told me about a curse!

Online multiplayer has been announced for up to 4 players in the co-op mode. It has also been confirmed that the game will offer asymmetrical multiplayer. There will be a pre-order exclusive game mode known as "Be the Zombie" that will allow the player to play as a zombie and join other players' worlds

, interesting

Sounds great... pre-order exclusive? Not so much!

yeah that struck me as a bit odd, it's not even mentioned on the store page for that matter.

I wish this game was in 3rd person view - I watched some videos and 1st person parkour makes me dizzy.

Yeah one thing that has me unsure about picking up this game is whether it will cause motion sickness. Like I just couldn't play Wolfenstein, even with headbob disabled, because of the camera movement when jumping over stuff. I kinda hope they'll do a free weekend of this so I can check it out.

I am glad I don't really have issues with motion sickness.

Motion sickness medicine like Dramamine just makes me dizzy and feel a bit ill. I can't take any of it.

For most games, if I can get a sufficiently wide FOV (100+) and there's minimal headbob, I'm generally good. But ultimately, the real problem is that games shouldn't be taking over camera control in first-person games or making assumptions about what my eyes are looking at on the screen. Looking down to vault over stuff, motion blur with a focal point on the crosshairs, all of it, garbage. It's not realistic. It sucks. Let me disable it

I think I'll wait to see if Steam offers a free weekend for this. I'm not quite ready to risk $45 on the chance that the game isn't as nausea-inducing as it appears, despite it looking potentially really fun to play.

I have never had motion sickness before and probably won't get it with Dying Light either but, as Complexmath pointed out, the game seems to be doing stuff with first person perspective that makes watching the game uncomfortable. Maybe it's a video thing only and it will be fine once you actually control your movements.

Seeing all the parkour moves in 3rd person would still be awesome though.

Yeah with a lot of these games it's really a coin toss. I just wish I didn't have to buy it to find out.

Yeah, it's kind of reminding me of Brink right now, and that did not work or go over so well there, so I'm curious as to how it will work here.

Parkouring (totally a word) zombies, right in the face, man! What's there to work out?

Though, it does suck with the motion sickness issues. I have friends who have similar problems in vidja games.

pre-load is now up, just under 17 GB.

No more pre-order lock-out on that zombie mode.

..and crap, just realised that the rest of the world (aka not the americas) won't get it for another month.

Ah, well. I really need to work on my pile anyway!

Another game on my "wait for review" list (PS4).

It's tough. I could preorder for $45, but if I wait for release then I'll be paying full price. So either I get the game right now or... I dunno, try and find people for a 4-pack or just skip the game I suppose. I'm not terribly interested in paying the full $60 for this.
