Amiibo Catch-All

Pages

Since we're apparently crowding the Wii U thread, and they're theoretically multiplatform anyway, how about a catch-all for all things amiibo?

Amiibo, if you didn't know, are Nintendo's push into the "toys to life" branch of gaming defined by Skylanders and Disney Infinity. However, instead of being required for play and restricted to one game, amiibo are entirely optional and unlock extras in a variety of titles. At present, they're trainable companions in Smash Bros., unlock costumes in Mario Kart 8 and a special weapon in Hyrule Warriors, with more to come.

The second wave of figurines launched this weekend. I caved and bought a Zelda figure, bringing my collection now to Link, Peach, Samus, and Zelda. What all have you collected at this point?

I'll play with you Clocky

In order of receivers' age acquired:

Youngest daughter: Pikachu
Eldest daughter: Princess Peach
Me: Marth

Overall, they look great. I am yet to activate them, as I haven't plugged in the WiiU, and I don't have anything else to hook them up to. I understand there is an NFC adapter being brought out for the 'non-new' 3DS(XL)s, but knowing Nintendo, they will only make 6 of them, and we'll have to pay a squillion dollars on eBay for them!?!?

I'm looking forward to seeing what unlocks in Mario Kart, but other that, they are a really nicely made 'toy'.

I don't know if they are robust enough to handle the 'play' of a 5 year old, and a 6.5 year old like the Skylanders have, but only time will tell. I have a nasty feeling Peach will snap, long before Pikachu does though, just based on the pose alone.

I'm hoping to snag a FireFox, Samus, and a Link and Zelda, but at AU$17 a pop, they going to start adding up pretty quickly.

I was mildly interested in picking up Samus and Link, but with the availability issues, it's just not worth the hassle. Congrats to Nintendo on a hot commodity I guess.

Samus and Link are two of the figures I've seen around in most locations. There's not as many as Kirby or Mario usually, but they're not nearly as hard to find as Marth or Villager.

My sister-in-law spent too much on Marth for my son ( the only one he really wanted ). He is also getting ( also from her ) Super Smash Bros. - which is too bad, otherwise we could have picked him up some random Amiibo as a gift. His birthday is two days after Christmas, so I guess we can get him one or two for that, hopefully at normal prices

Oh; the way talk had been sounding in the Wii U thread, it sounded like every wave of Amiibos was being scooped up and price-gouged by speculators. I'll have to keep an eye out for the few I'd like to pick up then.

So far, just Link and Donkey Kong. Although I've been considering picking up Samus and Zelda as well. And honestly, I have no idea why I'm even collecting these things

The most popular characters seem to have the largest shipments/allocations. If you're looking for Mario, Kirby, Pikachu you'll have absolutely no trouble. Lower-tier picks like Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Fox, Yoshi and Peach seem to be around at most stores (but not in huge quantities), while more obscure ones like Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, and Village are buh-bye.

My boys are getting a Kirby and Pikachu for Xmas but I've been eyeing Samus for myself. Grown ups can have fun too, right?

Link, Samus, Peach, Wii Fit Trainer and Zelda here! My wife and I have both reluctantly caught amiibo fever.

I picked up Samus, but I haven't had chance to test her out in Smash yet. Hopefully next week.

Is there a way to use them as teammates? As was kind of hinted at the initial reveal? Bummed I can't use them as coop in Classic.

Samus is a good looking figure! She's my favorite of our quintet. I'm thinking I might reset mine and retrain as I am a fraction better at Smash now.

Depending on where my wife and I are looking online, amiibo in wave 2 are showing different release dates. Example - Diddy Kong and Luigi have display space at Target and I bought Zelda there today. On Best Buy's website, they're listed as releasing on 12/17.

Are their staggered store releases?? What is going on with amiibo?? And, why do I care!??!

The wave 2 shipment was split up for some reason, so not everything is arriving to retail at the same time.

And the experts of GWJ have the answers! Thanks, Shop!

Most large chains here (West Australia) only seem to have Mario and Pikachu left.

I grabbed a Mario, then dropped into an off the main strip Audio/HiFi shop, and saw Zelda. She is now mine. I really should have grabbed Samus, Fox, Link and Kirby when I saw them.

I'm guessing there will be a wave 1 restock after the holidays, but right now, they seem to be the perfect price for stocking stuffers, so, my chances of getting one is also 'stuffed'

My wife bought me Yoshi so I am set.

Yay amiibo!

My daughters have a Yoshi and a Peach, I have a Donkey Kong and a Marth. I don't have anything from the second wave yet.

I've pre-ordered Ike, Sonic, and Mega Man on amazon. I'm hoping to get Meta Knight, Rosalina & Luna, and Shulk.

I bought a Fox Amiibo since that was my most played character in Smash and it seems fine. The figure is nice and the way it works in smash is fun enough. I might even pick up a Kirby at some point just cause I think it's cute. I do hope they do more with these things at some point as I'm not sure Nintendo really knows what it's doing with them.

You are either highly overestimating my interest in foxes or seriously misinterpreting it. Regardless the Kirby Amiibo is obviously the better choice for that use-case, hence my interest.

First day of the school holidays, and we have three more of the little plastic f*ckers!

Kirby and Yoshi as 'sharesies' for the girls, and Donkey Kong, for m0nk3yboy

So, current count, 7 amiibos, and yet to plug in the WiiU.

Deciding factor of 'one type over another' was did it unlock anything in Mario Kart 8.

Well played Nintendo, well played.

Pre-ordered Pit through Toys R' Us. Pre-order was cancelled without reason. Aaaaargh!

Monkey, these plastic little F'ers are multiplying.

To my surprise, my wife has acquired more than I.

Check your email. The cancelled pre-order people should have got a follow up that gives you direct links and a discount as a way to apologize.

Thanks, Tomayto! Luckily, our pre-order was one of the "error" cancellations and was restored.

Got Mario with Smash Bros for Christmas and was impressed enough to want a couple more. Hopefully nintendo et al. do more with them in the future...

Sadly, I own two Amiibos and I don't own a WiiU.

Spoiler:

i have a problem

And I really hope they announce a Ganondorf one.

I bought Samus for my desk. It's so pretty I'm thinking about picking up a Link too.

I have Link and Zelda. Both are nicely sculpted and look great.

Only have Link here, and I have yet to take him out of the box, despite having all 3 games that support that amiibo.
