I think maybe I fully appreciated how far it had fallen when I started yelling at NPR/BBC. That was the looked up to gold standard when I was a kid.
Now I want to read the entire original source before believing anything making journalism as useless.
Thanks for nothing journalists. Just join the screen writers guild already.

The BBC is effectively the propaganda arm of the UK government/corporate elite. It worries me that a lot of people on here seem to cite it as a reliable source of news. Maybe in comparison to things like Fox/Sky News but even then it doesn't stray from prescribed western orthodoxy, particularly with respect to foreign relations and the economy.

It's probably because the BBC is one of the few sources we have for *any* world coverage.

We are also usually talking exclusively about BBC world news hour being re-broadcast on Public Radio. So that might change things a bit.

Al-jazeera. Good stuff.

Al-Jazeera's valuable simply for the exposure to a different slant. Even if you don't agree with them, their inherent biases are more visible to a Western reader, which in turn helps to make the slant in our media clearer.

I don't think it's really deliberate in either case, but when you use words to communicate, bias is inherent. Just by agreeing to a shared definition, you've biased your view of the world.
