Splatoon 1 & 2 & 3

I...huh. I mean, that is basically just like being inactive for most of the match, right? Hell, even focusing on combat entire you'd splat more than 90 points worth of territory with missed shots.

Could always be the gamer's child, or that the child distracted them. Or a dog.

Or a small, half child/half dog hybrid.

Your contact's name is Timmy. Meet him at the usual extraction point, "the well". We're coming for you boy, hang in there...

Get rescued - 2016. Maybe. Hopefully.

That whole demo was like: young child and large bird dog get into trouble and destroy ancient ruin further

Which is just distracting enough to only be able to get 90 points in a Splatoon match. That's all I'm saying.

Minarchist, and I had a few battles together yesterday. We were on opposing teams most of the time. Splatted each other simultaneously a good few times! It was good to finally see a friend!

I should add GWJ to my name, or use RnRClown, I guess. I'm just another Jonny, of which I see many.

Oh, THAT'S who Jonny was. I knew you were a friend but wasn't sure whom. Yes, we did have some good games. You have a really nice stealth approach to gunning! You popped out and got me a few times.

Actually, it may have been those games that prompted me to try the ninja squid/ink resistance combo, which now allows me to get pretty much anywhere without visible trails, just to try and replicate some of that sneakiness.

Oh hey, the single player is pretty cool, too.

It kills me that they don't highlight friends in the player lists. A simple color change or a badge would do the trick.

Or the orange friend icon next to the names when the inklings are on the starting grids.

North American Splat-Fest delayed. Reason given is that matchmaking in Japan was causing long wait times and other issues, so they're trying to fix those first.

That's a bit of a downer. No new date given at the moment.

My level 5 daughter, who coincidentally is also 5, beat out two level 20, and a level 19 coming first in the losing side...

WTF were they thinking?

On the plus side, her confidence shoot through the roof!

Also, single player is a bucket load of fun to play with her. She coats the entire "hub" with paint, looking to unearth the level inlets. I then play through the level for her, then she splats the little yellow dude at the end.

Loving it!

So cute m0nk3yboy!

My wife has fallen out with Judd the cat. She wants coins for her awesome night of play, and he is not forthcoming with the generosity. Is it only a certain time of day? Or if you talk to him with a blank slate for the day does that count as a null and void of some sort?

I was tasked to find out because I laughed.

Each map reset, I think?

Sometimes it seems like he resets after each map reset, sometimes he doesn't. Basically, it's best to cash out if you're done for the time being or if you know you're about to hit a map reset.

Communication errors for me today

Ended up finishing the last two worlds of the campaign, both of which slowly ramp things up in really creative and challenging ways. I was startled to see a "Splat" (Game Over) screen after dying enough on one level, and then even got a "Splat" screen on the final boss! They really bring everything in to test your abilities.

Normally bosses are one of those things that is hard to get right. They're either really obvious in regards to the trick to hurt 'em, they're bullet sponges, or they're so obtuse you need a FAQ for it. Here, they're tricky but not too tricky. You can figure them out easily enough, but they become a bit more difficult throughout the fight.

The final boss really puts you to the test, with so much flying at you at once. It's basically a game of priorities and knowing when to move, and as a result it was probably one of the best moments I've had in a shooter in a while. I mean, I really dig Destiny's strikes and such with friends in co-op, but those are essentially about prioritizing waves of foes with your friends while whittling down a bullet sponge. The hordes of foes make it more enjoyable, but there's nothing too clever about the fight. Here, the final boss is clever, as is the environment you need to navigate. A real test of skill.

This game really is the whole package. Great and inventive single player campaign that partially trains you for multiplayer, and also implements a lot of creative ideas that just wouldn't work in the multiplayer but capitalize on the concept nonetheless. If this doesn't become my GotY, it'll surely be a high contender.

Meanwhile, in ranked matchmaking, starting to see a lot more matches where everyone is level 20. I'll probably float around in B- for a while. I feel like that's my skill level. Intense firefights where I sometimes do well, I sometimes do not.

Judd gifted me 1400 coins as I logged off for the night. My wife was not impressed. Well, it was funny, and educational!

I may push on with the single player today. I'm thoroughly enjoying what it has presented thus far. It's really very good!

I'm level 15 now. If I can get some better gear I may be willing to dip into ranked, to be humbled I dare say.

Weapons, maps, and new game mode leaked after a kid Data-Mined the CD.

That new game mode sounds interesting.

I hope that just means that is all they had done before going gold and they are currently working on more to release later (assuming this is the case since they have stuff planned for August).

This game is still fun.

I have so little time to game right now. I maybe play an hour once every 3 nights at best. Usually less. Outside of my PSP I barely touch my other systems right now because I'm so busy. Most of the time I'd just fire up NBA2k or Titanfall and call it good. This is the first game I play now. It's just so good. Probably my favorite new Nintendo game in a generation. That includes 3D World.

New weapon tonight: the Luna Blaster.

I'm only managing a couple matches when I play before I get bored. The luster wore off quickly for me. It's likely the quick matches coupled with it being 4v4.

Still fun, but I think I need some more variety right now.

Huh. The short match times and 4v4 are what keep me playing, mostly. If they were longer or more complicated, I doubt I'd stick around.

Short matches do it for me, too. And thank goodness there isn't voice chat. My kids like to wake up from naps with poopy diapers in the middle of a round. Every. Time.
