Marvel Puzzle Quest GWJ Alliance?

Pages

Not sure if this topic belongs here or in MMORPGs but is there a GWJ alliance for Marvel Puzzle Quest? I've got a pretty decent roster after spending a few bucks getting some slots. I've placing pretty decently in the events and ladders so my roster can contribute pretty well to an alliance. Plus getting extra iso would be sweet

There is, it's just called GWJ. I haven't played the game for awhile though. I primarily played on my tablet, but I haven't touched that in over a month. I'll try to load it up soon so I can cede leadership to someone more active. That still might not get you in though, as it costs coins to increase the roster, and they were crazy expensive last I knew. IIRC, once I made it, it had 5 spots, so four other people could join. Each additional spot after that cost 100x the spot number you were buying, so 600 coins for spot 6, and 700 for spot 7.

Good news! While in the process of collecting all the stuff the alliance earned since I last played, I saw that they put out an update boosting all alliances to 20 spots, so we've got plenty of room now. Just do a search for GWJ and you'll find it.

I'm also not bitter about all the coins I spent on extra slots, no siree!

Cool beans! Saw that notice when I logged in this evening.

Guess I'm too late for this one, it showed as full of 20 people now.

Nope, I'll just kick some of the inactive non-goodjers out. I warned everyone it'd happen when we filled all 20 spots, and no one seemed upset (or registered for a GWJ account like I suggested).

Edit - Freed up a spot and set the alliance to private. Post when you submit a request to join and I'll approve it.

Done, thanks!

Any other spots that can be freed up?

Yup, post when you've requested and I'll approve it.

Done

Just joined the alliance as "Turrash" I was DeThroned before but that name is apparently taken (from an old device) so using an older name.

Just put in my request to join. Poor old random alliance I was in was down to 2 active people.

I put in a request to join just now, hadn't realized there was a GWJ alliance.

I'm disturbingly addicted to this game.

I played the hell out of Bejeweled back in the day, and I finished the original Puzzle Quest on my PSP. It's just the right amount of mindless match-3 and occasional-bit-of-plot for me. If you're willing to just wait for things to come to you other than OMG-GOTTA-HAVE-THAT-CHARACTER it is totally reasonable to play it without ever spending a dime.

Just sent in my join-request as TanglebonesGWJ

True, although....

I ended up throwing a few bucks at them to get some gold for a few more character slots.

The gameplay is fun and addictive, but I do get weary at times of being relegated to the role of a punching bag for the players who have either been playing longer or spending a lot of money (and thus having much higher leveled and high-powered characters).

Not weary enough to quit playing. Just weary that there's not some sort of tiered setup for competition based upon selected teams.

There somewhat is. My experience is that I don't start hitting people with 100+ level 4-star characters until I get higher in rank. I think that who you get matched up against is restricted to a range around your current rank. It also helps to pick one of the less popular ending times for your instance of the event so there's less players overall. And don't forget to skip opponents you don't want to fight.

They did some changes to the MMR not long ago, and I've noticed that in PvP I'll often coast pretty easily up to about 550 (94/94/loaner teams). Once I cross 550-575 the "wall" comes up for me - 166+ teams and the occasional lethal 270 X-Force/270 4Thor/Featured.

As another hint: Don't buy tokens! Save your HP for roster slots.

my join request is in.

I've been seeing the exact same pattern lately. PvP has been much more forgiving for me lately than it was a few months ago.

Also the other big hint if anybody's just starting out is that health packs refill over time up to 5. I'm a potion hoarder in RPGs so it took me forever to realize that.

Must be due to newer people with teams in the level 30-40 range like me.

But yeah, I usually can at least get into the top 200-400 (it varies rather widely) in short-term events. I'm just not getting much in the way of crystals (or whatever the currency is) compared to how expensive it gets to level up heroes, and the heroes I'd really like to invest in just aren't showing up as cards to train up their powers. I've built up the 1-star Iron Man and Black Widow to their level caps, and my next highest heroes (in terms of having enough cards trained on them to raise their maximum level cap) are 2-star Captain America and 2-star Thor. Meanwhile when I get into that top 200-400 or whatever, I'm running across full teams of level 100-plus 3-4 star characters. Nothing I can do about that. *shrug*

Black Widow is great for punching above my weight by heavily focusing on the use of her stun; I've whittled down some teams I probably shouldn't have been able to beat by virtue of careful use of stunning/leeching with her and sheer luck in getting blue/purple gem drops onto the game table.

I'm kind of at an impasse with MPQ. I've been at it every day for 3 months.

I'm got 4 2 star 94s: Thor, Hawkguy, Magneto, and Cap.

The rest of my stable are all 3 or 4 stars, a ton of them. Like... 15 of them. Not a one of them has more than 4 skills and I'm just not getting 3 or 4 star drops. Even when I get top 10 in PVP, in the last 3 hours I'll just get destroyed by level 140s and knocked back almost out of the top 100.

So I either need to spend way too much money on card packs (the prices are ludicrous) or spend a ton of money on shields. It's infuriating.

I think that's where picking unpopular ending times pays off.

oily and Farscry:

It's a tough time right now for newer players in the transition right now; there's been a flood of new characters recently and it's tough to get a foothold. A few other tips that may help:

You will likely be in 2*star land for a while, so focus on getting the two best two-stars maxed: Original Black Widow (3/5/5) and Ares (4/4/5). These two are rock-stars in the 2-star realm, and you'll likely be using them well into 3*star transition.

Play as many lightning round battles as you can. They're a great source of ISO, and you have the chance to get 2 star drops from the battles. If you can join the second that they start you'll get seed teams; anywhere from 3 - 12 super-easy battles that you can chomp through with any roster.

The last three hours is a feeding frenzy in PvP land. What I do is start my final push with about 7 hours to go; it's a lot less busy then, and when I've hit my mark (I usually try to get 650 for the 1,000 ISO reward) I throw out an 8-hour shield and call it a day.

I downloaded this game a few weeks ago, and reading these posts explains why I'm so damn confused when I play it. The core gameplay is clear, but things like leveling up heroes, getting new powers, training, etc. are so convoluted that it's impossible to figure out. What the heck is a lightning round?

I'll search for the alliance again tonight. I did a search for GWJ before and came up empty, is it case sensitive?

Lightening Rounds are only an hour long.
I'll make some room in the alliance.

Oh, you're all talking specifically about versus games. That certainly explains some of my confusion.

Still, considering how easy the original Puzzle Quest was to get into I'm disappointed with how difficult this one is. I don't think that's necessarily the fault of D3, it's clear that a lot of this was done to push more micro-transactions and that's disappointing. I really enjoy the actual battles, and being able to play them as my favorite old Marvel characters is even better.

Characters are broken up into skills and levels.
Most characters have 3 skills. Skills are increased using issues for that particular character. The skills max out at 5, but 3-skill heroes can only have 13 skill points. Two-skill heroes have 10 potential points, which maxes both their skills. Increasing a skill makes it more effective (affects or creates additional tiles, does more healing damage). You can buy skill increases, but it's really not cost-effective.
A character's level is increased using ISO (standard game-currency across most Marvel mobile games). The max level for a character is based on the number of skill points they have. Increasing levels makes matches by the character do more damage per tile, and causes skills to do more damage/healing.

Added some bold there...

As another hint, keeping a level 1 5/5 Juggernaut around is smart for the Balance of Power event - he heals from dead to full health in around a half hour, and the damage isn't significantly lower than a level 40 5/5 Juggernaut (considering the level boost from the event).

Ahrezmendi - I imagine it would be quite confusing for new players - I've been playing since close to the game's initial release, and it's changed quite a bit since then.

Random Tip: You can change the enemy you are attacking by clicking on the first's enemy's face. I can't remember if that was explained in the tutorial.
