Dragon Age: Inquisition Catch-All

In Haven, once you get out of the tutorial "section," there's a small tavern with a woman in there singing and playing the lute. I want those songs.

Anyone else playing as a warrior? That's always the route I've gone in DA games, and looking at the skill trees it looks like it starts off with not a lot to do but has the potential to become a lot more interesting down the line.

I stared as a sword and board warrior, but I'm probably going to switch to two-hander sometime soon, as soon as I can find one.

That seems... Odd. Do all classes get their first points automatically spec'd, or do they just do that to us mages because they think we're all blood magick using demon worshippers?

I'd guess so, without having played them - it's done like that in DA:O and DA2 as well, so this isn't something new to the series.

Yes, they do. For example, dagger rogues get stealth and twin fangs.

In DA:O you didn't even get to choose your type of warrior/rogue, your initial skills were determined by your origin.

Varric looks like Ron Jeremy with a prettier face--I'm getting a real washed-up pornstar vibe from him.

Hah! Love it.

Right but when you do a new character, Rogues get a choice of dagger or bow, Warriors get a choice of two styles... mages just get mage... and they give you fire and lightning because...

Anyway, easily fixed with 1 gold once you unlock Haven I guess. But better not screw up your build later or it costs 300+ to fix.

Yup, Dalish elf meant you were an archer no matter what. -_- UPS is killing me. FedEx and USPS have already been through my neighborhood but no UPS.

My brain must have just made up that I had some control over those first two points :). Hearing it is that way for all classes makes it less of a niggle.

GAH. Why isn't it Christmas yet?

My memory is failing but did DA:Origins allow for point allocation for base attributes (Strength, Magic, Stamina, etc.)?

I know we've long been in the trend of streamlined RPG systems (and likely never to go back) but I miss the days of having that granular control. Picking two skills/sub-skills per level is still fun though, don't get me wrong.

Also: all this talk of mages. No love for the stabby Rogue? Going invisible, flanking for crits, reduced aggro, stalking around the battlefield unmolested while decided whose back to leap onto next... I thought this sort of thing would be catnip for you guys.

At the beginning I keep being told about Solas's feelings to me when I make a decision. Haven't even met him yet.

He joins your party maybe 10-15 minutes into the game, he's the bald elf mage. Are you getting the notifications prior to that, or did they just not properly introduce him?

I'm an idiot. I knew that.

Managed to play about an hour last night, but I was entirely too tired after the previous night's bad sleep, a full day of work, and a BJJ training session that went on nearly an hour longer than usual, so I didn't get into it as much as I would've liked.

This will be rectified tonight, since I'm off tomorrow and have the morning clear of any activity.

What I did see, I liked. Went with a dark-skinned Qunari Warrior, two-handing it.

Played about an hour of Human 2 Handed Warrior by going home over lunch, combat seems fun and I like the tactics view.

Will definitely be playing a ton tonight.

Also didn't have time to work through the upgrade trees to figure out what is the best way to go for 2 handed warrior, will figure that out tonight as well.

Kind of glad I'm waiting to get this so all the problems iron out. Also sad that my worries about the AI and lack of scripting like in Origins is an issue as pointed out in the GameTrailers review.

Still waiting. Does not seem to have even formally shipped from Amazon yet. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Anyone having issues with (or seeing solutions for) the PC version locking up after about 30-60 seconds on the main menu? (Music keeps playing but UI goes unresponsive and once you alt-tab out you can't alt-tab back in again.)

I've updated my graphics (nvidia) driver (w/reboot), run a repair check through Origin, and then ran out of time before work to try anything else. (I'm running a quad core CPU, so it's not a dual-core thing.) Am going try and get the graphics settings set to low when I get home tonight (if I can do that before it freezes), and will try disabling my firewall just in case it's something to do with that, but beyond that I'm not sure what try short of uninstalling and re-downloading the entire beast.

I started out as a two handed and I'm enjoying it. The "get over here" move is fun also, but I guess any warrior can do that.

Can you queue up commands in tactical view like in Origins or do you have to keep moving time forward and give commands one at a time?

ubrakto: Disabling Origin's overlay? Right-click the game, hit "Game Properties".

This game has Fennec Foxes, Game Of The Year 2014 status confirmed!

This is actually what fixed this for me:

Definitely had that, but it's only that specific instance, of alt-tabbing on the main menu. I think even if I clicked first where it says "click to continue" and login to servers, it doesn't freeze. Maybe.

Have only had that freeze once and didn't notice if I left it on the menu other times yet or not.

I'm picking up a ps4 to play this, but I'm waiting to try to get a Black Friday bundle. It's going to be rough waiting it out.

I do have a few questions for those playing. Is lock picking still a rogue only skill? I've seen a lot of talk of people going warrior or mage. Anyone going rogue? Daggers or ranged? And how is it?

Restarted my character and I no longer have the wrong gender issue. Must have been a one-off glitch.

Using a gamepad is really how this game was meant to be played. It almost seems like M/K controls were added as an afterthought and in their current form they really get in the way of the immersion.

I also REALLY like how they did the fog in the mountain pass at the beginning. It's the first time I've seen a game do it right (at least IMO)

I'm going to pick it up on PS4 on my way home and I will be looking to play MP with people. Send me friend requests!

Holy crap the Hinterlands is huge. Lots and lots of exploring in this game. Have had a couple crashes, both times when starting combat. And when it crashes it crashes pretty hard, too. Save often!

I've been pretty fortunate, I explored huge swaths of the Hinterlands and not a single crash, hiccup or anything. It's been running great on my PC.

I do need a little help for anyone else in the Hinterlands. Very minor non-plot spoilers but I will tag it just in case.

Spoiler:

I know there is a device that illuminates all the Shard locations but I can't find it for the life of me...anyone else find it? If so, remember where?

I have two controllers hooked up to my computer, so this shouldn't bother me, but for some reason this makes me sad. In my head, Dragon Age was always a PC-first spiritual sequel to the Baldur's Gate series. That means mouse and keyboard controls, not controller.

Get your thumbsticks off mah lawn!

Huh. Why is Origin telling me that there's free DLC available, entitled "Dragon Age(TM): Inquisition English Voice Over Pack". I could've sworn there were English voice-overs already, in the brief time I spent with the game... does it get Englishier with that DLC? Or did they patch out the built-in English voice-overs, and now I need to get them again?

Edit: And since someone's bound to ask... I bought the game via GMG (no VPN), and waited until midnight ET to unlock (again, no VPN)...

All of the things seem like they could be easily corrected, the bigger question is will they bother to patch it.

I don't know exactly where, but it's on top of a hill overlooking the ruins. Near one of the campsites IIRC.

Loving everyone's first impressions, and the game really looks gorgeous!! Can't wait for my copy to unlock on Friday! (yes, I know, I could use the VPN thing, but I still have a bunch of big work stuff on the not-very-back burner).

Maybe I'll try and scratch this Dragon Age itch by watching that Dragon Age anime I had never heard of until it was mentioned on Kotaku. I wonder how this got by me...
