Dragon Age: Inquisition Catch-All

There is no walking with M/K setup. It's run all the time, which isn't a big deal but it's annoying to me.

Looting/activating things could use some work. I want to be able to click on something from where my character is standing and have them move to the item. Instead I have to walk over and get really close to it for it to prompt for the action.

G is the default toggle key for auto-run, it's there in the keybindings.

Yes, I agree on the loot. When I mouse over something and the mouse pointer turns to a hand, I want to click and use the hand. That's default mouse behavior for years, if the icon changes, a click does that function. Instead I fire off a basic attack at the loot bag...

So I take it that the mouse and keyboard auto-attack/loot nearest object controls from DA2 aren't there anymore?

My mage looks a little sad sometimes.

At least her hair is the blue I selected in this scene. In half of the scenes it appears to be a dark brown instead. Not sure what is up with the lighting in this game.

I haven't been paying attention to release dates at all, so this pretty much snuck up on me. Seeing all the hubbub about the game releasing today, I make my way over to Origin's site, and am surprised to see the release date listed as Nov 21st, and a counter ticking down 2 days 6 hours and change... huh?!

Locking the game at 60 FPS has helped with the cutscenes but not solved the issue, it's obvious that it's some kind of bug as not the sort of thing I'd expect from the game dropping from 60 to 30 FPS it's full on stuttering like crazy in the cutscenes and nowhere else. I really hope it gets fixed as right now the best part of the game is a complete slideshow and the only thing I can do to even sort of fix it keeps me from playing the multiplayer.

Have you turned the Origin in game overlay off?

It helps a little but not much.

Man, Qunari ladies are tall. I laughed when I went down to the dungeon area in Haven and bonked my head on a hanging brazier.

Heh- when I discovered those had physics I spent several minutes running up and down the hall jumping and head butting them. Good thing my advisors couldn't see me, or they may have lost faith in their new leader.

Wait, are you playing a Twin Peaks cosplay game?

Anyone picking up the game - Target is throwing in the Strategy Guide if you buy it there.

Welcome to the wonderful world of European release dates

I'm not talking about default toggle for run. All that does is make you move forward without having to hold down a key. I'm talking about how with a gamepad you can actually walk or run depending on how far forward you push the stick. They should have implemented something where you can toggle run/walk or is based off how long you hold the key down.

A couple bugs I've noticed...

At the beginning I keep being told about Solas's feelings to me when I make a decision. Haven't even met him yet.
Villagers are referring to me as a female in their dialogue but I'm playing a male character " hush, don't disturb her"

That's still a thing? sheesh.

As a side note, a bit of googling turned up G2A.com selling a global Origin key for the game for only $44.5, has anyone used their services? are they reliable?

Combat seems OK so far; I'm sure it'll get more complex as more powers are unlocked. Right now my character's only level two, so all I've added is the Barrier power to the initial chain lightning and fireball.

I keep thinking of things that we had in Mass Effect like the ability to freeze someone with a vortex, "force push" someone, etc. I feel like things like that should be available to a mage and so far all I have are fireballs, iceballs and lightning. I hope there's more to come.

I'm really not happy they force you into two mage powers in two different trees to start. I didn't want either of those trees, and now I'm just waiting and waiting for a respec so I can play the ice/spirit Mage I was planning on playing.

Almost certainly, from looking up the skill trees; I'm not expecting to have the full toolset at level two, though

Honest request: if anyone stumbles across a write-up or impressions from someone running this on Vista (since it's not officially supported there) please PM me a link. I'm not willing to be a guinea pig.

Origin has a 24 hour refund period pretty sure no questions asked.

For what it's worth, you can buy it from Origin, test it, and get a refund within 24 hours, if it doesn't work.

I'm not either. It's just that my last experience with Dragon Age was origins and it had more of a KOTOR feel where you controlled the entire party and had access to healing spells, etc. early on. So I'm hoping I get back some of that, otherwise I should have just chosen to wield a sword. That's basically the gist of my question. If the kind of combat a mage can engage in is limited to versions of what I have right now I may want to start over.

Uh-oh - that was my build plan as well. What trees are forced into, initially (and what is the reasoning)?

He joins your party maybe 10-15 minutes into the game, he's the bald elf mage. Are you getting the notifications prior to that, or did they just not properly introduce him?

I WILL HAVE ALL THE ELFROOT!!!

That is all.

Mages start with a lightning spell and a fire spell.

You initially have one point buy into each of Storm and Inferno; not really a major problem, and comparable to other Dragon Age games, in terms of initial mage skills. Easy enough to respect later on, if it's a major problem with your future build

TheHarpoMarxist wrote:

You start at level 1 with with 2 points already set, one into Chain Lightning (Storm Tree) and one into Flashfire (Inferno Tree). No idea how long it is until you can respec, but I'm about 2 hours in and haven't seen it yet.

EDIT: Oh, respec info here. Apparently I'm at that part, I just haven't went to the right vendor yet.

That seems... Odd. Do all classes get their first points automatically spec'd, or do they just do that to us mages because they think we're all blood magick using demon worshippers?

Initial impressions: gorgeous looking game. I can't express how excited I am that tactical view is back. Voice acting and the character models, especially their faces, are great.

The amount of systems that open up after the prologue is a little intimidating and exciting all at the same time. I haven't done as much yet as I should have because I've just been walking around slowly looking at things.

Anyone else playing as a warrior? That's always the route I've gone in DA games, and looking at the skill trees it looks like it starts off with not a lot to do but has the potential to become a lot more interesting down the line.

It checks your drivers on startup and won't load if you have an old driver. I'm betting it will do the same with an older Windows version.

Double.

It's probably because it's the prologue/tutorial and they don't want you to gimp yourself taking only defensive spells?

I mean the Character screen where you can even see/assign your points/tactics doesn't open up for at least 30 minutes. It's the last part of the main menu to unlock.

I'd guess so, without having played them - it's done like that in DA:O and DA2 as well, so this isn't something new to the series.
