Just Cause 3 Grapple-all

Why am I starting this so early? Just 'cause...

Now that I've got that joke out of the way...

JUST CAUSE 3 PEOPLE! JUST CAUSE 3!

Just announced. All we have so far is "2015" and "PS4/XBox One/PC". This time it's on a Mediterranean island.

Can. Not. Wait.

/sploosh!

Obvious game is obvious, but this should be fun!

As long as it's more of the same with a few new surprises, then I'll be thrilled!

Cool! Did I hear a rumour about f2p?
Do not want that....

Also, I live on a Mediterranean island. Will be interesting to see how they present it if true! :b

They haven't said much; they seem to be releasing information through Game Informer and they are only letting out bits of info at a time.

There's a YouTube video that is mostly them talking to the devs and not doing much besides announcing the game. They do confirm the Mediterranean setting and say that there will be a wingsuit to go with the parachute and grapple but that's about it so far.

The RPS article mentions the F2P rumor. Apparently it is not F2P (they say it is a "full price game") but there apparently will be some kind of microtransactions or DLC. (Note that JC2 did have a good amount of DLC for extra weapons and vehicles; this may be more of that.)

No microtransactions! according to PC Gamer. Hurrah!

Count me in.

This is great news, now my most-wanted game for next year.

More Screenshots. I'm getting a strong 'Just Cause 2 with prettier graphics' vibe from it. To be honest, while I do expect some gameplay tweaks, I'd be mostly ok with that. It's still in my top 3 or 4 most played games, so more of the same is not exactly a hardship.

I agree. Maybe a little more variety in how you take over sections, better gunplay, and enemy variety, but the base formula is strong

Yeah, Just Cause 2 was a ton of fun. It's one of those games I think would be hard to add too much too without it feeling gimmicky or tacked on. Refine the formula, add a few new mechanics here and there, but I can't see anything as large as the leap from Just Cause 1 to 2 happening between 2 and 3.

Yup; new sandbox and new toys with some refined mechanics and controls, and that's enough for this game.

Haven't finished 2 yet, but another game would be good.

Not much here, but new trailer

Well I have a game to look forward to this fall now:

Also a new article with some gameplay impressions over at GameSpot.

Yup, that's a Just Cause game all right...

Sure is!

/preordered

Edit: I should probably also order a larger TV... Why? Just cause!

Yo dawg, I heard you like explosions...

December 1 release date.

Looking good. Unfortunately, no word about co-op, which leads me to think it won't be there.

Turns out I do, indeed like explosions.

I hope this isn't true. Co-op is like 75% of the reason I want this game.

According to an article on RPS, there's no MP (the statement is about 3/4ths of the way through).

I think I need a PS4 now. And a tissue. *sniff*

Man! This thread was a pain to find since it's been so long since anyone posted in it, and it does not come up in a site search.

Anyways, new trailer:

I think I may be getting the itch again where before I thought I might just pass.

Just Cause 2 was easily my GOTY when it was released. However, Just Cause was mediocre at best.

Not sure this is a day 1 purchase for me but if they can just distill the greatness of JC2 into a sequel I would be happy.

That's the thing. I have a hard time imagining a game i would feel is worth adding to my library that would build enough on what JC2 did without going overboard. I feel like I would love just some tweaks, the wingsuit, a perfected control scheme, additional explodable object types (how many gas stations, statues, coms stations, and military bases did I blow up in 2?), and a good full game co-op mode.

The RPS review of JC2 complained that the game would notice you were having too much fun and decide to ruin it by cranking up Heat and swamping you with soldiers. I agree so that's the main thing I'm looking for this time. I'll probably buy it anyway, eventually, but how much of a sale I wait for depends on how well they make a sandbox of crazy kaboomery instead of just a shooter with goofy elements.

I'd also like it to steal the FC3 mechanic for regenerating outposts and allow stuff I'd blown up to rebuild so I could blow it up again. There were some things in JC2 (and, similarly, Red Faction Guerrilla) that I felt bittersweet about blowing up because I'd never get to have that fun again.

Oh joy! Exactly what I was hoping for!

Obviously, it wouldn’t be Just Cause if the environment wasn’t also heavily destructible. Not everything can be destroyed but anything belonging to the Di Ravello regime is made to be blown to smithereens. Huge centrepieces of architecture on the island are also fair game, like a large motorway bridge that can be brought down by taking out the struts, or the propellers on the countryside’s giant white windmills. These big structures will rebuild themselves out of sight while the player is away, a design decision that was made for no other reason than “people liked blowing them up” and the sooner they regenerate, the better.

Huh. Wonder how that will affect (or remove) the scavenger hunt of destruction that kept me gplay JC2.

I'm thinking from the comment that the only rebuilding will be the megaarchitecture that's particularly fun to blow up, not the rest of the stuff painted red. I did the same thing, flying around in whatever death machine happened to be handy looking for untapped chaos. Maybe they'll let you switch it off and on.
