Blizzard's Overwatch Catch-All

Reaper is easily countered by long range characters on maps with long sight lines. Other maps mcree, brig, pharah, ana, and dva on any team with any coordination at all can counter him. If they don't have coordination, reaper will destroy entire teams. The only 1v1 he loses up close is to mcree and that relies on mcree hitting flashbang and having more than 4 bullets for his RC. 4 or less, reaper doesn't die and then he kills mcree pretty easily. Reaper is more devastating up close but he still has to get there to be effective. He does almost no damage at range.

He will likely have very little additional play at higher tiers. They are very coordinated and will just kill him instantly. Lower tier teams that lack coordination, have dps players who think it's team death match, and teams unwilling to swap heroes, will complain that reaper is overpowered.

Okay, anyone who thinks he's overpowered must be terrible. But to be fair, "counterable by sufficiently organized teams" isn't the standard - they could triple his damage tomorrow and widow would still counter him, after all. Setting aside whether he's overpowered, there's a lot of open ground between "not overpowered" and "uncounterable at any rank".

To me the weirdest thing about Reaper is that, per the lore, he's 58(!). I think a future patch should make it so that whenever he enters a room there's a 30% chance he'll forget what he came in for.

Maybe because we're usually a 5-6 stack, but organized teams in QP isn't that uncommon. High tier play he's a situational pick at best now. At regular levels he's only as good as the team he's against which in essence has always been the case. His damage output actually got a nerf one or two patches ago. This one just gave him the ability to stay alive longer. Really don't see him as OP at all.

.

I don't claim he's definitely OP, he's just been dominating most of the comp games I've played lately. There's an ebb and flow to such things, it could be just people dusting him off since he's in the news and other people being rusty at handling him. (I don't normally assign any particularly meaning to how things go in QP.)

I'm probably just salty about all the QoL he gets. If I as an occasional roadhog player have to spend half my game reloading he should have to as well.

I won't lie. The ability to auto reload when ghosting has probably doubled my kdr with him more than anything else.

Has something been done to Roadhog's reload? As another occasional Hog I seem to be out of ammo and reloading a lot more than before, not sure if it's just my playstyle has changed.

Reaper is absolutely OP at lower levels, if there's a reaper in play he's on fire most of the game every match.

Time of some comp venting again. Last season I played probably my best placements, won 7 and had leavers in all of the lost matches, SR 974. Worse than ever before though I'm a lot better player than I was say 6 months ago.

During the Christmas break the game was on sale for 19€, I got another account, played the 25 levels and played the placement games which didn't go all that well result was SR 2098 and gold. I've played around 16 games on that level comp and SR is about the same, the play is just so much better in gold than it was ever in Bronze. I've had zero leavers, every match has a good roster of roles and tactically it's much better.

I gotta say starting a fresh account was actually pretty nice, all the time levelling I played only the characters I never play usually, so Genji, Brigitte, Hanzo etc. Had a blast.

I was surprised how many smurfs there where though, Widows headshotting everybody at level 2 etc. I guess killing noobs is worth a few euro every month.

This is hopefully my last comp vent, thanks and sorry everyone

Nope, he's just always had super low ammo. He actually had only 4 shots originally, and got bumped up to 5 in exchange for a big damage nerf, but that was a long time ago.

As near as I can tell ranks in gold and below are more random than not. I mean, the average gold player is better than the average bronze player, but there are decent players in bronze and godawful players in gold, and the SR system mostly seems to keep them both where they are (apart from general downward drift as people buy new accounts).

That's actually somewhat common. Once you get a few games/seasons into comp moving your MMR/SR is quite difficult. The longer you play the more the system believes you 'belong' at a specific SR. You have to win significantly more than you lose to move the needle and you have to do it consistently. On top of that, your stats can help/hinder you. If your stats look like bronze stats, you gain less SR. If they look like diamond stats, you gain more. Blizzard won't tell you what those stats are. For all anyone knows it could be simply based on weapon accuracy or time on point or number of times you teabag someone you kill. People have guessed as to what it is but Blizzard is very tight lipped about it.

It's possible that you play those characters like other gold players and play your normal characters like bronze. That seems unlikely. It's more likely that you are a better player now than when you started comp on your old account and moving that needle is very difficult. There certainly are people who have done it but it's tough. Personally, I'd much rather the SR system just be based on wins like it is for diamond and above. It's simple and I don't have to worry if I'm playing Pharah like a bronze player or a diamond player. I just try to win.

Me playing Ana in the middle of a heavy match. "Shut up! Nano IS purple!" Team was very confused for a moment before we all burst into laughter. Edited for full story, was inbetween games when I wrote the original.
I was playing Ana on Volskaya defense and we were about to enter a team fight when I anti'd the enemy Roadhog and Ana. I also had a nano ready for our team and I was talking in group chat with some friends and accidentally said that I had nano'd the enemy Roadhog and Ana, and our Hammond pointed said that I "purple'd" them, and that's when I responded with the statement up there. Everyone in chat got quiet for a few moments and then we all had a good laugh. We got steamrolled that game. Barely lasted 3 minutes into second defense, and we had lost the first point on the first push, so I was more focused on what I was doing than what I was saying, which lead to that.

So the next map is an assault map set in Paris

It is already live in on the PTR.

Edit: Important information: there is a piano on the map that can actually be played. By shooting the keys.

Gesh! What do you think this is? The early 21st century?

Paris certainly makes itself look like a progressive, omnic-friendly city... but there is certainly evidence some of the omnics don’t feel that way.

I kinda wonder if this map will also be the setting for this year’s archive event.

I would date a robot. Bladerunner 2049 style. Sign me up.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

I guess I forgot to hit the cloak button before I walked thru the choke. lol

Yar, the laws of physics be a harsh mistress.

I f*cking love Philly's new home jersey, it's probably one of my favourite designs in S2.

Unfortunately should have Fragi take a shower before his photoshoot... and come back when he was sober. If you replaced the OW League jersey with a tattered hoodie he'd look like somebody I'd see walking around the bad part of downtown Vancouver.

To be fair, Axel is not wrong.

Are you kidding do you know how long it took to get his hair and beard to look like like he is homeless?
It screams buy my jersey so I can eat.

Was accused of aimbotting today because I got a headshot on a frozen junk rat, one on an ulting Phara and then 3 shots in rapid succession on a d.va as Ashe. I never considered myself good enough to have people make that mistake so I guess I’ve improved a bit. My total scoped accuracy was 22% for that game and all the shots mentioned were scoped. Lol.

Questions like these are a thing of the past thanks to Duck Tape

Not sure if this was what Dethroned was thinking of when he said a solution was available on YouTube but thankful for the support

Well if you can't duck it then... well you know the rest..

Nice fix, Macgyver would be proud.

Hahahah! Definitely not what I was thinking but looks like a good fix! I said replace the fan but I guess we can stick to the "duck tape fixes everything" mantra.

You need to post that to the build a pc thread.
