Blizzard's Overwatch Catch-All

I try and toss $10 Blizzard for each event, in part to get the neat new skins, in part to support a game that takes up so much of my (dwindling) free time. =D

The GWJ community definitely rocks and has kept OW going for me as well.

Agreed, it's been less and less about the game, and more about hanging out with friends that keeps me coming back to OW. The game really doesn't matter, it's the people that make it fun for me. I'd play multiplayer pong with all of you (provided of course I can find a way to turn the paddle into a turret...)

I love that "skraut" has become shorthand verbal communication in games for "turret" whether Bastion or Torb, regardless if Skraut is actually playing as said turret (there has been quite a bit of Mercy and Rein play from you recently).

"There is a skraut set up left around the corner," has been said on more than a few occasions. Just waiting for the day for Skraut to shot-call a skraut!

Miss you guys too! Hopefully I can have my new rig built in the next couple of weeks and be running around in-game again.

Last night's POTG as battle Mercy

Apologies to Ranalin, bit I still find this too amusing not to share.

That was a lesson learned! Had no clue you could bounce out on that side.

I am not sure even Blizzard knew...

Only one clip from last nite...

Hrm... just realized what a low resolution my video was at. Don't know why my program always defaults to 144p.

Minotaar's best charge ever!

xQc was a bit upset over a streak of bad luck. Even if you don't like him as a streamer, this clip is totally worth watching A little bit of NSFW language (F word said once) so just a fair warning.

Someone needs to tell xQc that it's March and he needs to take down his Christmas tree.

I love playing Moira. Looks like I'm all set for that GM tier!

So this is interesting. A few observations:

-There is more balance between hero types than I would have thought, it wouldn't have surprised me to see the top 10 in bronze and silver having 5 DPS.

-Since most people would say Ana is out of the meta and has been for quite some time, it's perplexing to me that she's in the top ten at every rank besides GM.

-I would expect Mercy to have dropped well down the top 10 or out completely for most ranks by next season.

-Reinhardt still being so popular and Orisa not being in the top 10 at any rank surprises me, as I thought most people felt Orisa was a better choice in most situations now.

-D.va is going to eat a nerf sooner or later (I never understood the change that gave her the micro-rockets while nerfing defense matrix, anyway).

Looks like I need to play more since my favorite is Moira! I'm still afraid to log on and play with you all though.

I totally get it. All D'Va was doing was flying around as a peel damage sponge with the 4 second DM. She was being played as much then as now, if I remember correctly, but was not very fun to play, either for the D'Va player or the opponents. There is higher skill involved with using DM now. You can still eat ults, but perhaps not all of them (full Soldier ult) and you have to better manage the DM and cool down. It is similar to Mercy changes of hide and team rez, only more effective because D'Va is a blast to play now.

I see no reason that she will get a nerf based only on play time and pick rate. It is not like her win rate is crazy. She doesn't carry matches. Her ult is not even close to the most powerful in the game. Effective use of micro missiles require you to fly close to a target, leaving you exposed and without your jets to get back out. From afar the spread is so wide that you are unlikely to do much damage. Her whole damage kit is up close while being a potential ult battery for the opponents. She seems to be in a great place right now.

I was very surprised to see that the Zen pick rate most closely mirrors Tracers, climbing higher and higher as the ranks go up. No appearances in the Top 10 until Plat then a steady climb from there.

Agreed, I think d.va is there because of versatility, as she fits into just about any comp or strategy.

Zenyatta's curse is pretty powerful.
If you have it on you, you tend to not last very long.
Tracer can be a real pain/distraction behind the lines
It is one of the things I like about Paladins: they have the flanker archetype. Many of their most unique champions are flankers with moves that would make Genji blush.
Overwatch has flankers, they just list them under damage or offensive champions.

I read the list as both Bastion and Torb need a boost

Skraut wrote:

Or that it takes a rare talent to play them, and all but the most self-confident are scared off from such a challenge.

Zenyatta's curse

To me, this sounds like a euphemism for either a biological process or an embarrassing disease.

"Due to a questionable decision involving Saran wrap, a fork lift, and a jar of pickled eggs, George had to miss the family reunion with an unfortunate case of Zenyatta's Curse."

Then again, I am weird.

I think you are thinking of Montezuma's Revenge. Which in fact, would be a very humorous Overwatch spoof.

Middcore wrote:

That could still be the case. This reads like an ingredients list. Because Reinhart is number 5 we don't know how far below he is to the person below. We don't know if 11-20 are all dps. Without percentages it's really kind of meaningless. All we know is that Junkrat is picked more than Genji and Genji is picked too much in any rank below Diamond.

Middcore wrote:

PIck rate <> effectiveness. I've seen a lot of Ana's who spend 75% of their time shooting at the enemy widow.

Middcore wrote:

Agreed. She is crap now. My winrate with her last season was 42%. In the previous season I was at 60%. I can't win games with Mercy any more. I can't carry with her. I think she's still powerful but her ability to make up for the poor play of other players is almost non-existant now and everyone gets the same number of chances to do that during a game. Unless I'm playing with someone I know can carry the team, I'll take Moira because I can affect wins/losses with her more now.

Middcore wrote:

I feel like Rein is way higher than I remember. I feel like most of the time I had tanks it was DVa and Roadhog. Of course I often went Rein if we needed a main tank.

Middcore wrote:

I agree with BH. I don't think she's OP. Just popular.

So I'm putting my coins into Roadhog to climb rank this season, and so far it's going ok, but man I wish his ult was less niche. It has its uses, but even after watching a bunch of pro gameplay the cases where it swings a team fight (which is what you hope for in a tank ult) seem to be vanishingly rare.

I mean, if you could cancel the ult early that'd be a solid buff. Yecch.
