Blizzard's Overwatch Catch-All

Pages

Just getting news from my buddy at Blizzcon.

Apparently Titan isn't as dead as we'd been lead to believe. A new IP called Overwatch seems to be either rising from Titan's ashes, or is a renaming of the project.

The official website just went up a few minutes ago: http://playoverwatch.com
Beta Sign-up: https://us.battle.net/account/manage...

Media Reports:
Kotaku - Blizzard Announces Overwatch
IGN - 5 facts about Overwatch (thanks Krev82!)

A cartoonish team based multiplayer shooter. Hmm, pretty similar conceptually to Team Fortress. Actually in thinking about it, Blizzard really doesn't innovate, pretty much ever. All their games are derivative. What they do very well though is perfect. So yeah, they may be all clones of other games, but they're shiny, fun well polished clones

Diablo?

Website is officially up: http://playoverwatch.com

I thought the cinematic was honestly kind of dumb in a wannabe-Pixar way, but I really like what they're trying to do with the actual game. It does look like TF2 with more MOBA elements, which is a great thing to someone who enjoys both genres.

That's sort of the feel I got after watching the gameplay trailer. Haven't done the cinematic yet.

I've gone from "huh?" to "curious".

I would have been way more interested if this had been a take on the Borderlands style (shooter/RPG mix)

My new Tribes!

Someone on twitter is saying it's a F2P with microtransactions....yuck.

While the real-time aspects of Diablo are definitely a new idea in the genre, Diablo is basically a Rogue-like with the sting of death taken out of it. (Of course, the fact that Hardcore is a thing you can do in it is a nod towards its roots too..)

I am almost positive we are going to eat this game up considering our track record. I think it looks like a blast!

I signed up for the beta. Not like it makes much difference since I am still waiting for the HOTS beta from the time that opened as well.

I'm ok with this. I played Team Fortress 2, Tribes, and Planetside 2 and they are all quality team based first person shooters that are F2P.

I would never expect Blizzard to do this as a full priced game. It's just not the world we live in anymore.

Wow, that is shamelessly ripping off Team Fortress 2.

/sigh

All games are just based on Pong right?

Why can't we simply say Blizzard creates amazing games? Diablo was certainly incredibly innovative for its time (remember when it came out) as well as Warcraft. Sure you can say Diablo is really just Temple of Apshai with fancy graphics but that essentially only gives innovative credits to the original video game designers.

How so?

Dude hammering out a sentry?

I've signed up for the Beta.

Trying to keep the top post updated with stuff as well.

Added a link to the beta sign-up, as well as the YouTube videos. If something else should be added up there (I'll try to write up a better description in a bit) don't be afraid to let me know.

You once again get the sense that Blizzard's almost wasting their talents by not turning their cinematics into full-fledged movies.

Blizzard changed, right? It's not my tastes that did?

If you want to read it as that, fine, but I really do see a LOT of similarity between Diablo and the old Roguealikes. I don't feel like I'm trying to shoehorn it in there.

Par for the course with Blizzard games these days. Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm use the same model. I imagine it will use a very similar model to Heroes/League of Legends.

I totally agree with you. Their animation is amazing.

I also signed up for the beta. Even if they did totally copy Battlefield Heroes, I mean Battleborn, I mean Team Fortress 2, I mean Super Monday Night Combat.

I would not blame anybody walking by someone watching the cinematic trailer on their computer and such for assuming said watcher is viewing a clip from Big Hero Six.

Based on the cinematic, and a little of the gameplay trailier - I'm getting the impression that one thing that may differentiate this from TF2 is that each "character" is on a permanent team?

Would explain why there are two types of "snipers" (Widowmaker and Hanzo - one for each side/faction).

Hard to say yet.

Some day, someone will make a team-based, class-based shooter without snipers, and I will play that game from the day it's released until my death.

Hoping they have plans for this on console.

I like what I'm seeing in the panel. The focus on heroes instead of classes gets a huge thumbs up from me. This allows them to continue to add new ways to play, which is one issue I've had with other team shooters. I like the art style, I like the abilities. It all looks like a lot of fun. I'll give it a try if I get into the alpha/beta.

Blizzard changed. This game looks like a huge amount of fun.

Wow, I can't remember the last time I swung from such sheer excitement to such great disappointment. This is the first game from Blizzard in a long time that I have absolutely no interest in playing after I saw the preview, and I love Blizzard. Everything I just saw so derivative and the interface (typically something Blizz knocks out of the park) seems uninspired.

To me this reeks of Blizz trying to recoup money spent on Titan by stripping a portion out and making it F2P. I look forward to being proven wrong though!

There aren't that many silly shooters around. TF2 and maybe Monday Night Combat are the only ones I can think of right now.

We need more silly shooters, and this looks like a silly shooter.
