Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

It is a lot harder to suspend disbelief that Sam could take on a Hulk without being enhanced.

How is it they reportedly spent close to 400 million on this movie and all the trailer manages is a bunch of medium shots and closeups?

I know film nerds complaining about the visual language of Marvel movies is not a new or original thing, and I want to like this because I like Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, but it looks like it was made for streaming.

I think it is they are using this to kick off the next phase of the MCU, so they are hiding a lot of stuff for reveal in future trailers or in the movie itself.

Yeah, personally I don't mind a sparse trailer. But I'm all-in on the MCU, so I am not the audience for this trailer.

Ditto.

My problem with the trailer isn't that it isn't telling me enough about the plot, it's that the framing, the color grading, everything about it is boring. Even the image they've chosen for youtube is transparently Anthony Mackie on a green screen. Watch the trailer with the sound turned off, and you'll fall asleep. It seems designed to be consumed as second screen entertainment while you're playing wordle.

Use the frame! Have distinctive shots! Create interesting closeups! Entice me to see it on a big screen!

I mean, I just re-watched the obscure 90:s low budget thriller Mute Witness, and it looks like this:

Or just compare it to a blockbuster peer that's playing in the same sandbox:

You understand why I'm frustrated every shot looks like standard TV coverage, right?

Mr Sunday Movies said it of Star Wars streaming series, but I feel it applies here: "Can't wait to watch two guys in a medium shot talk on a bridge or whatever."

Until the name of the movie came up, I legit thought it was a new Disney+ series (which I was also excited about).

And somehow people find the character of Deadpool tedious.

Cheeky.

Deadpool & Wolverine | Final Trailer

*spoilers like crazy so watch at your own risk.

I'm in. I mean, I was always in, but yeah, I'm in.

I was absolutely all-in on this before this trailer, but, now?

Spoiler:

Laura Kinney?

That puts it over the top for me.

Every large format showing of Deadpool & Wolverine near me tonight is sold out. Most of the non-large-format shows have only a handful of seats available.

Looks like I'll do my usual and wait for a matinee next week.

These big ones I have to buy within a day or two of tickets being available to get opening weekend IMAX at our real 7 story IMAX theater near me.

When we decided much later to see the last Captain Marvel, I bought them way late and still had tons of seats available.

This one looks to be doing well.

While the group at my cinemapub clearly was into D&W, I was not feeling it. It may be the movie I have the most to say about I also feel the least about.

But holy shit, if you want to see the "Isn't it funny that we're playing this pop song you know over this bloody fight scene!?" joke f*cked into the dirt and back, this is the movie for you.

I had a lot of fun watching Deadpool & Wolverine. It won‘t win any Academy Award, but the cameos are absolutely brillant (there are two scenes when the theatre went absolutely nuts with claps, laughter and cheers… Germans are pretty reserved, so it is quite special if anything like that happens) and I got from it what I had expected.

A fairly prominent movie critic up here predicted it would cross 1 billion in box-office revenue.

We're seeing it tonight.

I saw new deadpool movie and although some of the humor is not my bag I did enjoy the movie over all. They did some real creative stuff that surprised me since I did not watch any trailers.

Deadline is reporting it's going to do $450mm worldwide this weekend.

Spoiler: The inciting incident for Deadpool & Wolverine

If Wolverine was the anchor being for Deadpool's universe, that means that either A) it happened in the past when all mutants were long gone, except Colossus and NTW who were still living happily in the mansion a year later, or B) in the future, and for now his universe has two Wolverines?

RDJ and the Russo's are back. Marvel is flailing desperately.

I love Doom.

I love RDJ as Tony.

I also like pickles on my sandwiches. And chocolate milkshakes. You know what I don't like?
