Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

In watching the video, I think I missed the last two seasons or so. I didn't know the Phalanx appeared, and I have zero memory of that weird Magneto, Mystique, and Mr. Sinister working for Apocalypse plot.

I was able to watch what of '97 there is. Execution, it's fine, my issues are mainly philosophical. I don't care for nostalgia banking, even when it's something I have a lot of nostalgia for.

I am glad that it seems Cyclops is getting some much needed and long-overdue rehab in pop consciousness. As part of that, and in light of the cliffhanger of episode 2, I have reason to revisit:

Also, Imma go off on this a bit, and fandom's whole "Dead Beat Dad" thing.

So, the Phoenix Omnibus Vol. 2 does include the original Inferno and a lot of the events leading up to it, and this perception is straight up incorrect--Scott talks about how every number he tries to reach Madelyn has been disconnected, every letter he sends gets returned, as do the checks he keeps sending! So, that's the opposite of "Dead Beat Dad." Obviously, there's a lot more, Inferno is pretty wild, but having received new information, I wanted to return to this.

X-Men '97 Episode 3

Could've been worse, I guess, given that it was based on an idea Marvel executives forced on the writers way back when that for my money was one of the worst things done to Cyclops and Jean Grey. And the name reveal near the epilogue felt forced as hell.

X-Men 97, carrying on the tradition of retelling X-Men stories from the comics, but not as good as the comics.

and not looking as good as the comics on top of that...

But still better than any of the movies did.

I don't appreciate that attack on First Class.

Watching the Avengers movies with our son (10) and just finished Age of Ultron last night. Watching Cap 1 this morning. We're going to try and get Infinity War and Endgame in before we hit Disneyland on Tuesday. He hasn't seen any of them but time is short so I'm not going to get him through Civil War, Black Panther or Ragnarok before Avengers 3. Oh well.

These films are so much fun.

Yeah, the latest 97 episode, I suppose that's about the best version of Inferno one could reasonably expect in 30 minutes and without any build-up from any previous stories (I just barely read the first Inferno for the first time, and I quite liked it), though I'm not sure who'd want to do that.

But f*ck Morph. Even as a wee-un I never liked Morph, thought he was lame and charmless, but now that he seems to only exist to be cameos of infinitely cooler characters who I'd much rather were part of this line up, I genuinely hate him. Oh, I guess he also exists to talk shit from behind Wolverine so he doesn't get punched.

Silver Surfer is a lady. Not sure why they didn't go with one of the female heralds. Hmmmm maybe she is a herald that came before the silver surfer and she just has the same gimmick.

His lover? Isn't there a storyline where she or both of them become heralds?

Edit:

Yep it's close to what i remembered and the most important part is that she's played by Julia Garner

I absolutely love Julia Garner in everything I've seen her in. The fact that she's in this movie likely cements the fact that I will see it (at some point).

Hot take, if you release an episode of a TV show called Part 1, I will assume that there will be a Part 2 next week, and I will wait to watch both together.

So either X-Men 97 is being cute and there is no Part 2, or they are being cute and Part 2 will be later. Either way, I feel duped.

You have to wait 27 years.

Yeah, but X-Men 98 will be lit!

I'd also say that while using Mojo as a vehicle for satirical and meta jokes is expected, joking about fan intransigence, stagnation, and reluctance to embrace newness in a revival of a 30 year old cartoon that, for good and ill, is pretty faithful in recreating the vibe of that original is certainly a choice.

To the show not you, but I immediately think of this:

Finished watching Endgame with my son tonight.

He loved every minute of it.

God damn but that has got to be the best series ending ever.

X-Men '97

There's... going to be a lot of things on Earth that need to get fixed after this.

Looks great.

LFG!!!

Mr. DARCY! I love Matthew McFadyen.

Deadpool & Wolverine looks like a film I'll wait to see on Disney+. It feels like it's come a couple of years too late. Deadpool 2 was 6 years ago; Logan was seven. And the height of the Jackman/Reynolds thing also feels like it was a few years ago.

It'll be interesting to see if they have the material to keep the whole thing afloat for whatever the running time is.

HAhaha do you wanna build a snowman hahahahah

Yeah that looks great.

No one is safe from this film.

That's amazing!
